I didn’t want to clog up the main thread with talk of travel plans and discussions about extra rounds so here we go.

For the record, I can pick up anyone flying in to Roanoke in my CRV up to 3 people. If you happen to be flying to Lynchburg, I can accommodate that most likely as well.

I have not played any of the courses in Roanoke. A lot of people like Ashley Plantation so I would suggest that as an option. Blue Hills is also in Roanoke and looks decent. There are a couple others in Roanoke or Salem which is right down the road.

We could also slip out to Smith Mountain Lake as well. Copperhead is the at the lake but would not be my first choice. Played there one time and was not impressed. Mariners Landing would be the better choice at the lake and while it has been a while since I played there, I know some members and they have done a lot of work over the last couple years in the course. It is supposed to be really solid now.

I will add my 2 Pence.
I live in a Golf Community called Birkdale Golf Course in Chesterfield. Its 40 min South of Richmond Airport, and 2.5 hours from Roanoke. Depending on "The Boss" i may have 2 Bedrooms available. Several Courses around me but I have only played Birkdale since we moved here 2 years ago. You can ask @Pharaoh about difficulty of this short Course since he likes to play here when it rains.
As for transport my Liftback is good for 3 sets of Clubs, but pack like you're gonna carry it for miles. 😀

Good Options for those flying into Richmond. I’ll likely be driving up from Savannah through Greensboro, is this the way you’ll come up @pumbaa?

I will come through Greensboro as well usually.

There is a birkdale like 15 minutes from me in the Charlotte area.

If you make it to Roanoke and play there we played Ashley plantation before Adam rank experience. Enjoyed it. If you check out our travel thread lots of good info.

Ashley is kinda known around here for their par 6. I think it’s hole 5 or something like that. Anyway that would be my recommendation for in Roanoke itself. Some guys are talking about a round Saturday and then another Sunday morning. I would suggest waiting for the official itinerary of arrival time on Sunday before planning a Sunday round.

I'm just under a 5 hour drive. About as straight a shot as you can go down 81. Probably head down early Sunday morning.
Been up and down 81 many a time when I lived in MD

I will 2nd this.. really liked Ashley and they were very accommodating to us. That Par 6 is crazy.. just let @Jeff Spicoli know where to hit it and it’s a par 4 for him. Cool island green par 3 too.

I’ve driven to Ballyhack twice from Syracuse. I must pass rt by you as it’s a straight 8 hr drive for me on 81. Easy as can be tho and will gladly do again 😉.

I'm going to be driving in from Kentucky. It doesn't look like I'm going to be passing anything but pretty mountains on my journey.

There has been talk already of 2 extra rounds. One Saturday and one Sunday morning. We would need to make sure a Sunday morning round does not make us late arriving. My suggestion would be if we can make 2 work, play Ashley on Sunday. Saturday gives more options to go towards the lake or something like that.

I'd be in for Sunday. 10-1030 tee times should be good to get done with some buffer and over to Ballyhack by 4

I thought the course worked out well for what was needed. I think it would be a good choice again. I can’t remember how far the Virginia Tech course is from Roanoke, but it’s supposed to be good.

I’m down for a Sunday morning round at Ashley Plantation or somewhere around Roanoke before heading to Ballyhack

The Pete Dye River Course in Blacksburg is probably an hour to an hour and fifteen depending on where in Roanoke you leave from.

Are most planning on arriving on Saturday?

I can arrive Sat or Sun doesn't matter to me. We have an office in Roanoke I might even stay and turn this into a business trip.

I’m driving over Sunday. Could possibly come a day early if the round makes sense

I smell Right Off.

I can drive down Saturday, hang out, drive home, come back Sunday and be good to go. Nice being close for a change!

Looks like the majority are arriving Saturday so I’ll likely do the same and be rested for the round Sunday.
