2025 Callaway Utility Series – Apex UT

I think I have found a really strong combo with the UST Recoil Proto and this head. It is an ideal ball flight for this club
I’m just using what the fitter told me to haha

I wasn't suggesting otherwise. I am just saying I am happy with this combo. So happy I want to change out my irons shafts

Spent a little more time with the 22*, originally wasn't hitting well and gap with my 5 iron was pretty tight. Started hitting it solid last night and seeing the ball speed pick up and the gap spread. If this continues it will gap very well, feel is addicting when hitting out of the middle

I didn’t mean anything by it. I don’t make changes in my own that usually work out 😂😂

210 yards carry off the deck all day with the 20 degree on a stock, simple swing. I didn't think it would be as easy to launch off the deck as it is, yet the feel is of a solid onepiece forged iron when struck well

Once Callaway allows me to order one of these with a Powercore, it's happening just for the sake of my curiosity.

I really like mine as is. I'm not doubting the shaft change but I'm afraid to mess with it

That’s gonna be a thing????
I have the recoil in my and it’s perfect for a simple man like myself

It should be. Other hybrid shafts are an option. I emailed Callaway to ask. We'll see what they say.

Since we are fiddling with non-adjustable shafts.. how well do you think the LINQ black 100F5 would fit into this bad boy? @DannyLe I've got it with a Ventus black 9 TX at the moment and have a LINQ here I'm not using

Next time on the monitor I will test this for numbers against the 5 iron from the Ti Fusion 250 set. I know its going to have a lower flight but I'm wondering if these two aren't capable of the same thing. Top end the UT will be longer because of a more penetrating flight and likely more run out (always course dependent) Could lead to a bag battle with something like another hybrid coming into the bag. Unlikely due to total distance but its worthy of a test

I know this has been touched on before but what “penalty” do you see typically for being a groove or two low? How big of a carry drop off or total speed drop off do you see?

actual speed I don't know for sure... BUT ON COURSE the drop off in expected distance is about 5-10 yards. The flight is still stable it just loses height and lands flatter. If dry out probably no drop given the run out

What happens to the feel I you get low on the face?

In two outdoors sessions I have had the extremes locally.

One round was about 35 degrees out. I felt it more. It has a very small amount of vibration and slightly duller sound of the mishit

The other was around 60 degrees and it was just the slightly dull sound. Performance hasn't really been an issue.

A well centered strike feels like a fully forged iron

Do you find any difficulty going from a Ti 5i to the UT? I’d imagine it’s a significantly different feel and shape but I could be off

The TiFusion 250 5 iron is 23 degrees. The UT is 20. The 5i launchs higher as they are about the same size with the UT being just a little shorter in blade length and maybe more narrow but the trailing part of the sole is prevalent with the UT. There is about 10 yards difference in carry between the two on well struck shots at the moment. 210 to 195. BUT>I can step on the 5i and get close off the deck. Off the tee the downward weighting and face of the 5i elevate the ball more (including the loft) so they both have a place in the bag. I'd drop the 5i before I'd drop the UT because I can get more out of it and lay off if needed

I do like the feel of a fully forged iron.

I had gone through a little bit of a funk across two rounds not finding the center face of my Apex UT. Of course it got me wondering if whether the UT was better for my bag or just going with the Ai-150 4-iron. So I purchased the 4-iron and put both head-to-head. I got a chance to play up in North Carolina and had a pretty solid ball striking round with my UT while I was waiting on my 4-iron to be delivered. The 4-iron came yesterday and I put both of them head to head this morning and I want to start off by saying my fitter at ECPC, JD, got it right.

I started off with the 4-iron and I was getting about 195 yards with around 90 foot in height. That’s consistent with my numbers from my previous 4-iron. The Apex UT gives me about 205 yards with 95 foot in height. I get more distance at five more feet of height and that gives me a nice penetrating ball flight. I hit 10 to12 balls with each club and the Apex UT was the clear winner for me. Now there may be times when I’m playing shorter courses that the 4-iron will come in to play, I hit it very well, and very consistent with what I’ve seen over the years out that club. But in normal conditions, the Apex UT is the right club to fill the slot between my UW and my 5-iron.

Great job, Callaway.

I hit a little bit of the struggle with the UT as well but reminded myself that it is in fact... a long iron. I'm on the good with it again. 205 to 210 without any extra effort. Its so easy off the tee to run out to 220 yards that it really is my second tee option. When struck well, it feels fully forged

Definitely. For me it came down to focusing on shallowing my swing and making good contact, which is the basic fundamental for a long iron anyway.

I always feel i need to over power it... when I let it do the work it works great
