2025 Cobra King and King X Wedges

Needed these a lot this morning and man did they perform. Even in super sloppy conditions I could switch up a bit and pick them pretty clean to make sure I didn’t dig. Saved quite a few pars for me by setting up easier putts.

There hasn’t been a shot I’ve come across that I didn’t feel like I could hit with these and get out of them exactly what I need.

Did some wedge work with these over the last 24 hours. Simple things like getting used to the sole design and I can't start typing about these without first mentioning the looks again. They are so good looking vs just about anything else on the market.

Spin is great, brand new, it should be, but its great.
Sole design I have promotes clean contact. Love the wide low in the high lofts. Really gives me some versatility there.
Feel is really good. I didnt know what to expect, but its dense, full and really lacks anything clicky to it to me personally.

So far so good.

I saw these in the wild in store for the first time. I could so easily play X all through the bag. I talked to the sales guy a bit about Cobra irons and he started going on about how good this years wedges are. I was positively surprised to hear, because SB didn't elicit the same kinds of conversations.

Aren't they shocking in hand and at setup? The X's are SO well done, probably the best out there in a CB wedge.

I compared the looks against other CB wedges in the store and it's not even close.

They are really good from both sides. Cobra did a fantastic job with both wedges.

Another week, more superlatives from me on the KING Wedges.

The 60T is dynamic. SO dynamic for me. But by gosh, if you get lazy, you will pay and dig depending on the conditions. The grind though is just super useful to me with how I play greenside, on approach, and even from bunkers as I have no problem using the sole to thump it out of the bunker still.

54D is the best club that I don't use enough. I'm making it a goal to hit it in more situations now that my wedge swing is coming around. I still wish I could get that grind in all of my wedges, I would play it in all three.

48V has befuddled me a little. It is SILLY long for me. I am talking 140 yards on a full swing. It is towering and beautiful, but damn that is long long. I have checked loft, and its still 48, I just hit it so clean. Its got me considering the 48 X again too because I don't see a spin drop in it, but I do get even more height which could maybe dial in the distance.

Either way, these are THE most complete wedges ever from Cobra.

EVER.

I love the low spinners I can hit with these with the highest confidence. I've had a few playing partners get real confused what voodoo I've been using, but man these have been so good. Should come in handy at a place like Victoria National too.

Played in a scramble today which meant a lot of "hit and hope" and play the ball closest to the pin, even if it isn't the best option. All of that to say, I hit some short sided full swing flops and some 54V bump and runs that ended us up at -9 on the day, which was pretty awesome for our group. KING wedges continue to impress with looks and performance.

Played in the work league this afternoon, and finished with 13 putts. My GIR left something to be desired, but the 58° t grind put in some work chipping with 4 holes where my putt was inside 4 feet. The one approach I had with the 54, led to 1 of the 2 GIRs I had. Where I am still figuring things out is the 50°. I put the X back in the bag and 1 shot from 115 finished on the front fringe. The other I had I caught fat and left a 20 yd chip for the 58. I'm going to put the King 50° back in the bag for Sunday's round and see how it stacks up

Bent the 48 to 50 finally after talking about it foreeeeever. Betting it ends up back at 49, but it’s a start.

The added bounce makes me happy too.

Messing with the Skills Assessment randomized on SkyTrak to get adjusted to my wedge matrix distances and man these wedges are just so consistent. If I put a similar swing on them I’m getting the distances I expect. 1/4 swings have a bit of roll out, 1/2 swings and above are more one hop and stop but obviously some of that will depend on the greens. But the distances are just so consistent, the feel is great, I’ve had no issues with turf interaction. So much fun,

With all the rain we have been getting it's been rough getting out to play, so i've been stuck in the basement with the SkyTrak working through the randomizer working on really dialing in my wedge distances that I got from the wedge matrix.

The King X wedges really are fantastic and i'm getting pretty good and seeing consistent distances with my 1/4 and 1/2 swings (3/4 is still a work in progress), but the flight, spin and distance is really consistent shot to shot. I have a good feeling on what swing I need to put on my wedges to get a certain carry distance, and then just need to adjust what i'm doing based on how the ball is reacting on the greens that i'm playing. The sound and feel of these wedges is fantastic, they feel solid off all the shots and have a nice little click to them when the partial wedges are struck nicely. I am really enjoying these.
Have you gotten the X lob wedge out on course much? How is it working out for you?

I have trouble with it on anything less than a 1/2 swing unless it’s on a tight lie. Fluffy lies with less than a 1/2 swing and I tend to get under that ball too much and the ball goes nowhere.

1/2 swings and above, and tight lies it has been really good.

Reshafting my purchased set of KING's with the DART V scoring wedge shafts this afternoon while I work on some other review stuff out in the #GarageSim

With the move to the Limit3d in the bag, it makes sense to put the V's into the 54/60 (already in the 48X) and then I can compare both setups head to head and see which wedge setup gets the nod.

With how freaking far I'm hitting the 48V, I really do think, as I mentioned earlier, that the 48X's added height could tame that a little for me. We shall see.

I had around 110-115 in to a green a handful of times today and my 48° King X wedge performed every time. It was also used on a few longer chips. Thrilled with my choice of this over a set gap wedge.

The 54° & 58° King wedges have locked up their spots in the bag and have been rock solid this far. Where I am a bit adrift is the GW spot. I have King 50 and King X 50 and following the suggestion on a call this past week, I'm kicking the tires on grabbing a King Tec set wedge. Since a GW for me is a full swing club

I'm not quite sure what it is but I'm becoming VERY comfortable with the 54/58 King wedges. Feel is a little more solid than I'm used to but I'm really starting to like that now. I feel like I have a lot more control over distances and partials than I have previously.

I'm liking them so much that I'm going to go ahead and buy a 50* King wedge because I absolutely hate the feel and look of the KT set GW.

What's the group thoughts on the KING wedge at 49 deg?

Thinking about going 50 deg bent one weak or 48 deg bent one strong. V grind

Or... do I try the King X against the TEC set GW.

How confident are you in your wedge game?

As for the bending, keep in mind what that will do to bounce.

I'm loving the 54 from 80y and in. Typically one of the stronger areas of my game. I'm still sorting through the thicker sole of the TEC irons and wondering if the thinner sole may benefit me on scoring shots. I'd say the 49/50 is about 105y shot for me

No bounce listed in the specs on the TEC GW but I am very happy with the KING 54 10V. If I understand correctly, the KING 50 8V bent 1 weak would net a 49d 9 deg bounce?

Both KING X wedges would start at 10 deg bounce for 48 and 50 loft

Very intrigued by both the King and King X. I was worried for a second when the article had no mention of a 50* on the Kings, but a little further down, there it is on the King X. Could definitely picture myself in either wedge for different purposes, but the King X with the extra "forgiveness" might be better suited for me. It does look like a couple of you are playing blended sets currently, any particular reason why or more for gapping purposes?

Curiosity mostly. My MC bag was the King X 50° and King 54° & 58°. Prior to it arriving, I grabbed a King 50°, to try it but also as an insurance policy if the X and I didn't jive. So far, I've preferred the King over the X, but it's still early in the season so we will see how it shakes out.

Per Cobra customer service the bounce on the set GW is 8.6 degrees.

I’m really liking the 48 degrees King X but I know when you were selecting your other wedges you liked how the King sat at the ground a touch closer than the X.

Messing with the bounce of either wedge could make it sit differently, reducing loft should make the leading edge sit closer. For the King wedges Bending the 50 to 49 would reduce the bounce from 8 to 7 degrees.

Adding loft adds bounce but makes the leading edge appear more off the ground so making the 48 a 49 would give 9 degrees of bounce.

you are correct. I was thinking weak but the numbers I put were strong. Thanks for the catch

I got an order in for a 50* King wedge this morning. These wedges have a unique feel to me at impact. I think maybe it's the solid and dense nature of the feel that is helping me with distance control. I'm not 100% sure on that, but something is having me hit these almost exactly the distance I'm going for. I see it over and over in the sim. In my morning warmup I always shoot to 60/70/80/90/100 distances with 54 and 58. I used to suck at it but since switching to King wedges I've started doing a lot better. Sure some of that is the repeated practice I'm sure but some of it has to be the wedges. I haven't done a Trackman wedge test with data and scoring in a while but will do that once the 50 comes in next week. The wedge test is a bunch of randomized shots between 60 - 120. I bet I do a lot better than the previous wedge test I did back in February.

If I can just get this wedge success to translate more outdoors we'll be cooking with gas.
