2026 MLB Thread + Hot Stove Off Season

I didn't think he was worth $40 million/year.

$60 million - LAD is just trolling at this point.
The NPV of the deal is only $25 million though, the payments are deferred to 2056

Little League coaches - "Johnny, you gotta run out that grounder!"

Johnny - "Why? Kyle Tucker didn't, and he got $20 million a year over market value."

Every picture I have seen of Tucker this offseason, looks like he is built like the guy retrieving carts at the local grocery store.

Now for the Jays, do you go resign Bichette now? Or has that boat sailed?
Who is the fallback now? Please not another Santander situation. If there is someone you want, go sign them now, get it over with, and get ready for the season.
It's an interesting debate..

Bo was incredibly helpful with his bat last year, but his suspect defensive play and the rise of guys like Clement really muted his missed games in my books. You add in the fact that Santander was either hurt or atrocious, and suddenly you have potentially large additions in his bat as well as Varsho's bat if he can get going - with Okamoto potentially being a really reliable bat and utility guy.

I think the guys have been patient because they have room to be patient.

All good until LAD goes bankrupt (I know that won't actually happen), folds, and leaves Tucker and Shohei holding an empty bag, forcing them to take a residency at an off-strip Vegas revival of The Odd Couple.

Wow...LAD really stuck it to Tucker on that clause, didn't they?

Not sure I could live off only $25 million a year. :ROFLMAO:

Can we fast forward to locking out the sport to fix it.

Just saw the news. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah lol

It looks even more stupid written out.

1) Shohei Ohtani DH
2) Mookie Betts SS
3) Freddie Freeman 1B
4) Kyle Tucker RF
5) Will Smith C
6) Max Muncy 3B
7) Teoscar Hernandez LF
8) Andy Pages CF
9) Tommy Edman 2B

SP1 Yamamoto
SP2 Snell
SP3 Ohtani
SP4 Glasnow
SP5 Sasaki
CL: Edwin Diaz

It's basically an All Star team.. with the exception of that dork Pages who'd be like the guy from that one horrible team who has to have some rep at the game lmao

The sad part is that Pages would literally be that guy on at least 5 other teams...lol.

Freddie Freeman is the only player in that group born in the 1980's.

It is one thing to push the envelope. This is too brazen, too much. You can’t be this overt without it backfiring somehow.

hahahahaha

Right now, somewhere in a dark, smoky back room of some exclusive club off Wall Street, the CEO of JG Wentworth is presenting the Tucker and Ohtani contracts to a group of execs from the other major sports leagues.

“Gentleman, I have a foolproof plan that will make us all filthy rich…er.

It'll make for some interesting discussion.

As a fan, does it make you more or less excited for the upcoming season and the potential 3peat?

I want to bury my Mookie Betts jersey in the farthest back corner of my closet.

Tucker is going to make $7M less than the marlins entire roster last year. There’s no way to defend this system

Less. Part of the excitement of winning is the challenge and actually earning it. Part of what made the last WS so incredible is that the Jays were so equally deserving. Right now to me it just feels a bit … I don’t know, cheap???

I respect that.

Going from fun to weird. My kid does this every time he starts a new season on MLB the show lmao - all the big names on his fav team

@echico

I’m conflicted

Astros current roster - $248.6

Add Bregman, Springer, Tucker, Correa (Twins payment), and Cole - $35 + $21 + $60 + $12 + $36 = $164 million
Subtract Paredes, Peña, Meyers, Sanchez, and Imai - $10 + $9 + $3.5 + $6.8 + $18 = $47.3 million

To keep all the big players and get rid of their replacements would cost the Astros $365.3 million.

It’s impossible to fix. 6-8 teams have made that a fact. What could a cap possibly be? Salaries have doubled in 20 months while tv contracts at the local level for small and mid market have evaporated.

******* 6-8 teams ruined a league

Welcome to LA Mr. Tucker.

If you can make this reasonable how come they can't see this??

And we still have Framber to get a FA contract. I guess you could swap out Framber with Cole in my napkin math as it would just include players drafted or international FA signs. I know there are teams that draft and develop well that can never keep any of their players. We kept Altuve, McCullers, Alvarez (trade not drafted), and Gurriel (until he was too old). We also signed Verlander, Hader, Abreu, and Walker along the way. We have definitely been in the top 10 (a lot of times top 5) of spending after the 2017 WS. Even then we couldn't make it work with our own draft picks.

I can't wrap my head around this

Kyle Tucker is now the highest paid player based on annual NPV, ******* bananas
