solid bag right here dig the p790 iron

Testing some P790's right now. May see some more P790's in the signature soon. I could go 4-PW or some sort of combo.

Put the P790 5-PW Modus3 105 stiff in the bag for the last 2 rounds. Adding them to the P790 4 iron. (I love that club since adding the KBS Tour Hybrid shaft!) Good results with the 5-7 irons. Not as good with the scoring irons, 8-PW. Might be over swinging those a bit. Still a work in progress.

How do you feel about the change from the 770 to the 790? I play 790s and just scored a set of 770s for a great price and was thinking about a combo set 8-pw. At the same time I can't bring myself to pull any of the 790 out! What problems are you having with your scoring irons? Do you have any huge distance inconsistencies? Great bag by the way!

Well Saturday I played with my 770's for the first time in a month. They just feel so good. I find that I try and see how far I can it the 790's which did not help my scoring, at all. I kinda thing the 790 8-PW feel a bit dead or numb. a combo would solve that. If I played 4-7 790 and 770 8-PW I would have to adjust some lofts. I would have almost 20-25 yrd gap between 7 and 8 irons. That kind of math makes my head hurt! I will keep the 790 4i in as a driving iron and 5-PW until some better comes out. Hope that helps.

Nice setup. Pretty close to what I've been playing for the last 5 years.

Added a few wedges over the last 2 weeks. 2 on the New Level M-Type 50 and 54 (actually a 56 bent to 54, helped reduce bounce). Today my TM Hi-Toe arrived. I found this on eBay and it was from Australia but it gave me the new grind on a 60° Hi-Toe. Closer to the tour grind of the MG wedges and a lot less bounce then the ATV Grind. Reshafting it with Modus 115 wedge shaft.

Big changes coming to my bag! Here are some pictures of the New Level M-Type wedges I recently acquired. Replacing the TM MG in 50/54. I find these new wedges to be very versatile on full and partial shots. I have become very critical of turf interaction and these wedges shine at that. The 50 has just 7 of bounce and is wonderful on tight lies. On chip and runs varying the flight very easily. It is also good on chip and runs of the green. That has become very useful. Both with Modus 115 wedge shafts. The 54 is actually a 56-12 that is bent to 54. It also lowered the bounce to around 10. Love how it works out of the sand and on all shots. More to come on these.

Also in the wedge part of my bag, picked up a new TM Hi-Toe wedge. It is a 60* with the new 4 way grind. Added a Modus 115 wedge shaft. Have yet to hit this combination! Here are a couple of pictures. Obviously A LOT more to come on this wedge.

I have some New Level 902 irons arriving on Monday. I have had P-770 irons in the bag for 2 seasons. I do really like them in terms of feel and performance. But with TM discontinuing the 770/750 line, it gave a chance to test other irons. The first will be the 902's. They have a gorgeous shape and are forged out of carbon steel. Check and check on my list of requirements. Paired these up with Modus 105 stiff shafts. I will be 60 years old soon :banghead: so, I am trying to be mindful of shaft and loft needs. I will compare these directly to the 770's.

And to those who ask why not go something more forgiving/SGI/GI, I tried a set of 790 irons and had good results with the 4-7 irons. The 4 iron will stay in my bag as a driving iron. The 5-7 gave me good gains, but the gap between 7 and 8 iron was almost 20 yards. I could have adjusted the lofts and I felt that would have been ok but would/could screw up what I liked about the turf interaction. And that is a box I HAVE to check to keep a set of irons in the bag. It quickly eliminates most SGI/GI iron sets. Also, the 8-PW has a bit of a numb feel to me. More to come as I get out next week with the 902's.

Awesome! I’m excited to read your review and in comparison to the P770s. We are in the same boat. I’m currently playing the P790 4-5 and P770 6-Pw, all with Ctaper Stiff. I will be getting the 902 with S400 TI shafts. Can’t wait to see if they can dethrone the P irons. I’ve scored quite well with the P irons all season, so it will be a battle. Best wishes with the new sticks!

My clubs arrived this morning and I promply picked them up at UPS. I was ready to go to the course then but of course still had a full day of work to do! but I was wrapped up by 5 o’clock and was able to make it to the course in time to hit a bucket of balls and actually get out on the course for some approach shots.. As I work my way around the back nine I pretty much position myself with a couple approaches into most holes.. Some holes I hit an 8 or 9 iron. Other holes I left myself an approach of 6 or 7 iron distance. The temperature this evening was 45 when I started so I did have to adjust a club or so for temperature. The wind did not seem to be affecting nearest much as the temperature dip. The par 3 holes I went ahead and hit from the tee. I found I had no problem adjusting to the irons in terms of distance or in how they looked behind the ball. Most shots had a straight or slight draw to them. And over all very pleased with the quick range session and quick venture out on the course. More to come when I can compare side by side. I will add more pictures to this thread Or one of the reviews threads

I have to say, that this New Level 902 iron has been the easiest switch in irons I have ever made. Evening switching between various TM irons has not been this easy. The swing weights were perfect, I’m very familiar with the Modus 105s shafts, but even that doesn’t really explain it. It is kind a hard to put your finger on. I think it boils down to a design that every detail was attended to. From the thickness of the top line, to the amount of sole width was done with a purpose. And that purpose was to make the best possible 902 iron they could. I think they have a specific type of golfer in mind for that iron. And I don’t believe there was very much compromise.

I’ve played 18 holes with my buddies last night. At the end of the round over drinks they all looked at me and said we’re not sure we’ve ever seen you hit your irons better. Then they threatened to take my Toulon putter and bend around a tree! It’s kind of nice to have 7 1-putts from inside 10 feet, (3 for birdie). And I had my best ball striking round, maybe of the season. And the only thing I can trace it to is the confidence that I have in these irons. And it’s not that I was unhappy with the TM 770s. It’s that I have a few extra yards in the tank with the 902’s.

If you haven’t hit these irons or any of the others in the New Level lineup you owe it to yourself to hit them for yourself.

Late season testing! Ping G400 max 10.5 with a Graphite Design GP-6X shaft. Have yet to hit it since it is raining and 39° In Indiana today. Hope to hit it soon indoors on trackman. Nothing better than testing to drive away the winter blues! The last picture is an alignment stick cover I ordered from Sunfish golf. After tonight’s simulator round of golf, Ping G400max is strongly in the bag. It is as long as my M3 but feel and forgiveness. I also give a lot of credit to the GD GP-6X shaft. It is a great combo. Golf trip to Myrtle Beach early December.

Never really thought that the Srixon F85 3w could give my 2016 M2 3w a run for its money. So I really didn’t talk about it. But I am here to say that the combo of F85 and Veylix Alpina 673 combo. So far I would say that the M2 when struck perfectly, is still possibly the longer club. But on off-center hits the Srixon shines. I think it’s the most consistent of the two and so for me is going in the bag. Still trying to get used to the rainbow colors of the shaft. But the way the head sets/align up is very pleasing to the eye and I would say I was pretty confident in it early on. 1F285167-73EB-43E3-908B-98FAED64B075.jpeg7686400D-2169-43EC-ACE2-40B2E0F692F6.jpeg0637DC8E-0ED0-486F-8B69-F6F554A2A9C1.jpegEE6125EE-5DF2-41EE-8E21-BD8F6C9A3714.jpeg

Bored on a Saturday morning is no way to be! Thought I would take a picture of some of my Toulon/Odyssey head covers. Some are rare, some or not!

Picked up a couple 2016 Toulon head covers. These are new/mint! The one on the left was for the players championship one on the right for the Ryder Cup

Toulon Palm Beach w/Stroke Lab putter shaft. 34” oal I have since added a T 40 weight and with the counterbalance it seems about perfect. If you’ve read a little bit about the stroke lab putters you know that the grip and have‘s close to 105 g of weight. A 40 g plug that goes into the shaft and then a 65 g grip. I think the full face deep diamond milling gives it a softer sound/feel, these are still made out of 303 stainless. But it does sound a bit softer. Still great roll of course. But because of the stiffness of the shaft along with its lighter weight, the balance and feel is just a little bit different. Not different in a bad way but just different. Putter still feels very balanced and very well thought out as you expect with Odyssey/Toulon. As Sean has said a few times he is terminally curious. So no detail is rushed over or forgotten.

Callaway Epic Flash SZ 10.5 -1/N settling. Still trying to decide on a shaft. Had a Graphite Design VR6 X in it the other day. A shaft it is very similar to the GP that I had in my Ping G400 max. I was able to pick up over 7 miles an hour of ball speed over the Ping combo. ? Granted that was in the simulator but since were having the Polar Vortex here in Indiana that’s all I got! I think there might be a little more there was some tweaking. I’m going to switch out the tip on the GD GP6 shaft and give it a go. I’m also hearing that the new version of TP5, May give me 2-3 more mph ball speed.

Ed,
I really enjoyed the pictures you shared of the Palm Beach putter recently acquired. Interested in what this year brings, and looking forward to getting outside.
