7-year-old girl escapes groper

A 7-year-old girl fought off a man who had grabbed her while she and her 10-year-old brother were flying a kite Thursday morning in a field next to the Lucy Read Pre-Kindergarten in the 7500 block of Silvercrest Drive in North Austin.

Austin police are looking for the attacker, whom the children described as a thin white man in his 40s who had reddish brown hair and wearing a red shirt, white shorts and black shoes.

The attacker was last seen fleeing on foot north from the field in the direction of Northcross Mall, police said.

The girl told police the man had approached the children without saying anything and grabbed at the girl.

The girl kicked and punched the man until he let go of her and ran off.

Neither child needed medical attention, police said.
