Agree or Disagree? Two Separate Cart Fees?

I just pay whatever the sign says.
This. I don't think the GM is doing it to pad his personal jet fund. I believe it's beneficial to the course I want to play. Maybe that's paying more grounds keepers to be on staff, doing other little upgrades, or maintaining the carts, etc..

I like the per rider charge - it keeps it cheaper when only one player uses that cart. Case in point... Pronghorn Nicklaus course charges $38 for a rider - if 2 it is $76. And our Pro Am here a cart is $50 even if only one player needs it .. but most courses are about $15 each .. that is ok.

Raise the green fee $15 and include the cart.

If I choose to walk that’s on me

This is why cart fees are per person.
No way they would want to cut their revenue by 230k per year. This breakdown puts it in to perspective.

While I hate cart fees. If I was running a course, I’m charging per passenger.

Taken from jeckyll island article.
The JIA budgeted $3.17 million in revenue for fiscal year 2025, which began on July 31. Projected is $621,000 in memberships, $956,000 in greens fees, $467,000 in golf cart rentals, $112,000 in golf card sales, $504,000 in concession sales, $259,000 from tournaments, $53,000 from the driving range and $84,000 in lease income.

Personally I like cart fees per person.. I have played in tourneys where the cost of a cart is $50 -- single or 2 players. that sucks when you are a lone rider.

That’s why me and @PatsFan walk price of carts is insane we bought our electric cart and more just by saving cart fees

At my course the cart fees are baked into the green fees for the public (non-members). Whether you walk or ride you pay the same price, and it doesn't matter if there are one or two of you in the cart.

For members, the base membership is $229/month for unlimited golf with no cart privileges. If you walk that's all you pay; if you want a cart it's either $15 per round (per person), or an extra $120/month for unlimited cart use. It's pretty easy to do the math on which is the better value, based on how many rounds you play per month.

Lately I’ve been paying more to play at a well conditioned course where the green fee is fully loaded. Cart, golf, range balls, unlimited bottled water all on a single charge. Service is good, food is good if I buy it. It costs more but it’s predictable and I’ve never felt ripped off or nickel and dimed.

Just out of curiosity, when did a cart fee for 1 rider stopped being 1/2 a cart fee?
I personally don’t recall it ever being a lone ‘cart fee’ per cart regardless if a single or double bag.

Have you?

Someone gets it. If people knew the razor thin margins that golf courses operate on, they would get it, also. The cost is the cost. If you don't like it, walk.

While I do agree with the premise of what you are saying, most of the courses around me that I play don't really have a "cart fee" any longer, it's just built into the cost of the round. So the round costs what it costs regardless of if you are walking or riding.
That’s arguably worse. I’m not putting wear and tear on your gear, you don’t charge me.

I'm fine with it. A second rider usually means more cart needs to be cleaned tidied.

At our club the cost of a cart is fixed. You either pay it as a single , or it's split between 2.

Yeah unless it's a high end resort course, or is unwalkable....i don't want to pay for a cart i'm not going to use

“These ef’n cart fees are outrageous! Spaulding, go put my $4,000 set of golf clubs back in the Mercedes, we’re leaving!”

🤣

I can remember a time when each player paid a fee, if two committed to the cart. If only one was a cart rider he was responsible for the whole cost. I believe this practice went away back in the early 90s.
Well as a solo rider I definitely don't want fees to increase so I do not want full cart fees to come back. Although if that did happen I'm walking more and more so maybe the extra push to use Nitron push cart!

Agree with others takes on this pricing model. If I'm using a push cart of my own I should not be paying for your cart.

Our course charges $20 cart fee for each player, but riders are free.

Pretty fair deal.

I agree with those implying its a riding fee, not a cart fee.
X amount to walk the course, and Y amount to ride the course.

How do responses like "just walk" etc advance and contribute to the discussion ? Silence can be golden ;)

I don’t disagree with you. Would love more of the courses to offer a walking rate they just don’t.
