Mods, if this isn't the correct place for this, please assist me in moving it to the correct thread. Thank you.

I've noticed over the years there are usually two kinds of golfers in this world. The golfer that has the same brand for everything club in their bag (except maybe the putter) and the golfer that has a mix and match of brands in their bag.

Not sure if it's ever been discussed here before but which one are you and is there a reason why? I'll go first. When I first started playing I would try to have all of the same brand of clubs in my bag, just because I thought that's what you were supposed to do. Then as a few years went by I still was mostly this way, but due to keeping a club from an old set and then adding it to a new set, my bag became mixed. Again picking up an odd club here or there, I would try to stay the same brand but sometimes due to price (being broke most of my golfing life, at a younger age, lol) different brands would make it into my bag, but always wanted to be all the same. Now as I'm older and am learning more and getting more into the ins and outs of equipment, I still like to try to keep my bag one brand if possible, but definitely more open to having other brands in there if that particular club is just better than what the current brand I have is.

I got a lot going on in my golf bag. I have 3 brands in my irons

I just want the best club for my game at each spot and when I really like a club I just keep it. Three clubs that have been in my bag for a while now.

Titleist 620 CB PW I use as a GW
Callaway Apex Pro 5H
Srixon ZX4 6 iron

These just do exactly what I want where they are so no reason to go with anything else or try something new and as you can see, no consistency whatsoever brand wise with those 3. I think @4hourrule called my bag a Frankenstein setup 😂

It’s a good question.
With that said, isn’t it only possible to be one of those two?

I tend to be brand loyal but I still like to tinker with equipment. I've always been bias towards Titleist equipment because I like the look at address and they perform pretty consistently each generation.

After being able to tinker and try out different equipment. I like having clubs that feel good after and contact and look good at address. For my woods, I still like the look and feel of Titleist but now I am playing Srixon irons and a mix of Cleveland RTZ wedges with a SM10 60* wedge.

I'm very brand loyal. But I've won clubs/shafts/etc through THP that have me a bit more mixed than I might be if I was the one paying.

True, lol, but always wanted to know about the guys that carry several different brands, like the first person that posted. As opposed to just a different brand for a specialty club, etc.

I'm a Cobra guy so my whole bag is Cobra due to The THP Morgan Cup, however I see plenty of guys who have a mixed bag. I don't think there is a wrong answer, play what you like.

Agreed, no wrong answer, was mostly just curious how everyone ended up with their bag. Thought it might make for some interesting stories or ideas on brands/clubs to maybe look into myself.

I’ve been both of these at different times. Not averse to either. Right now I’m all one brand except for putter. It’s the only odd man out.

That‘s just how it works out sometimes. Honestly I feel like less of a goof when I have a mixed bag, but I really like my current setup so it is what it is. No biggie.

I hear you. Coming from playing other sports I always like to try and have my gear matching as much as possible. I went from being TM for everything except 3w, 5w and putter to Mizuno for just about everything now except those same clubs, plus a new Cleveland Chipper, that if Mizuno offered one I probably would have tried to get it in that brand instead lol.

I currently have all of one company in my bag for clubs. I prefer to buy clubs from companies who make me feel like they want my business.

I'm also very price conscious.

I will gladly take equipment out of my bag for any experience or testing opportunity with THP that comes my way.

I'm not sponsored or committed to any brands. Nor I'll ever be. I'll put in my bag whatever works for me at the price point that I like.
I believe ALL major brands make good clubs and even the not so popular ones too. I see sometimes on here the hate for Taylormade... I don't understand it but to each his own.

I would have to agree with you on each of those statements. For the most part I'm definitely up for trying new equipment, but if just isn't "that" much better than my brand or worth the higher cost, then tend to stick with my brand.

I have never had only one brand in my bag.

My bag has multiple brands.

Callaway, tour edge, Cleveland, and lab currently. I've used multiple brands all the time.

Eh, I'm a big guy. Looking for Ping Green Dot gear, then looking up the serial numbers to check shaft lengths, is the most foolproof way for me to acquire pre-owned clubs.

For woods, I've been gravitating towards Tour Edge lately. The fit has been decent, and the price/performance ratio is hard to beat.

Yeah I think when it comes down to it all brands for the most part are going to give you the same results, unless you are just uber tuned into your game and need that extra specific reason to use a particular club. Price point is definitely a big point for me too. I was extremely lucky with my current set that I just got. Purchased my irons and driver from a local golf shop. They discounted the driver without me even asking anything about it. Did the same for my irons, discounted even after that gave me a great value on some old stuff I was trading in. So much so that I went ahead and purchased 54 at the same time.

I used to have a few different brands in my bag. But because of a few experiences here at THP, I am now a full bag of Callaway. There's no right or wrong way to do it. I've still had some interest in a few other brands but end up staying pretty brand loyal overall.

Now I'm a mixture of brands (Callaway, TM, and Lab). In the past I've generally been 1 brand for the whole bag

Kudos to that local shop. That's how they keep their customers and grow.
So I have wedges from Amazon. Cheap. $40 a piece. They perform fine. As a long time Vokey user, I was fairly shocked that these "crap" clubs can do what most can. Durability and longevity... not sure.
I'm not a pro and probably never get back to single digit handicap. I will play what works for me at my level. Again, at the price that I'm comfortable spending my own money. If that means mixed bag of randoms? So be it.

Yeah this day in age most all equipment seems like it will perform just about the same...but like you said durability / longevity I think is the difference when it comes to price point. I have an Arnold Palmer ICD 5w that I got in a complete set of clubs back in the 90's from Play it Again Sports. All the other clubs have long since been gone, but that 5w is still in my bag and will likely have to be pried out of my cold dead hands. There might be better 5w's out there now but just the fact that I am so comfortable with that club and have hit so many great shots with it, that I won't ever feel the need to replace it, even with it being nearly 30 years old ,lol.

I think there was a recent post about tech and you believe in it? I’d say yes. For sure techs help. But all companies have “their” techs they market heavily. If you believe in that tech and like what that brand stands for and want to have one brand bag? Awesome! Good on ya.
But for me, they are all pretty good these days.

Mixed bag but not a whole lot of mixing. Titleist companies for putter (putter isn't changing) and wedges. Ping for the rest currently but open to others.

I'm committed to one brand: Callaway. All the major brands make great equipment so it's nothing against them. Callaway makes the best equipment for my game and they treated me like royalty as part of The Grandaddy team in 2023, so they have a customer for life.
