Any guitar players here?

This is officially rad. Also we have very similar dining room sets.

I played from like 12 through my twenties but kind of lost my spark at some point. Still have my 61 Guild though.

There are several guitar players here on THP, I believe there is already a thread that's pretty deep with comments, though I haven't seen it in a while.
I'm all acoustic BTW.

I’m kinda the same. Played some when I was younger, even tried to rekindle my interest much later. Never was as good as I wanted to be. Still have an Ovation acoustic/electric from back in the day, and a Squier Telecaster, Fender Pro Junior (tube) amp and another Marshall bedroom amp that I picked up along the way, but sadly they don’t get much use anymore. Now on the rare occasion that I pick one up and tune it, my fingers get so sore I’m done in just a couple of minutes.

No calluses = No fun. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You all have more musical talent in oneittle toe than I have. Never played any instrument.

Acoustic guy here. Mostly a strummer.

my Dad's Gretsch from the original plant before they got bought is sitting in the stand in front of me and his Taylor acoustic is one of the six hanging on the wall to my left as I type this. At any given moment I have one plugged in to a Mustang amp, one into a Champion 100 and a bass plugged into a Rumble, one into a Princeton Reverb Amp (bought to play with a guy who insists non-tube amps give him a headache).

At random times I will pick one up and start playing. Then switch, sometimes 2 or 3 times in a session....

none of the sounds I play sound good to me because I compare myself to my Dad. He had incredible range of techniques...the chickin picking, the Chet Atkins, the BB King box*....at one point I was having some of his playing transcribed and the guy finally gave up because of all the borrowed chords and the way he slid into every note and chord with a beautiful grace note.

Then I come along all ham fisted and grinding the strings into the frets...I feel shame.

and truth be told...I am actually mediocre to low end of decent. But compared to a giant...I suck. lol

But old guitars are the best

*Fun story. He played gospel style for the most part, a lot of the Carter style alternating bass with slides, hammer ons, pull offs, borrowed chords, arpeggios...just a beautiful, beautiful style. One day, being a smart aleck teen, I asked why he never used bends thinking I was asking him about a technique he did not know. He immediately did some nearly 2 step bends and ran off a series of riffs that had my jaw drop and said, "It isn't what I am trying to communicate". I learned a lesson. People play what they like for various reasons and a lot of them are holding back some real talent for reasons that will never make sense to me

I have a few flattops. A few rather old Martins , A Gallager G70, 68 Guild F212, a Bourgeois Slope D, An old Tele. Been playing since Jr HS. 71 here and grew up on classic rock while going to UF . Got into Tony Rice, Doc Watson and Dan Crary as years moved on..

Just a fan.

On the way to soccer tonight my 15 year old daughter tells me she loves Jimmy Page.

I kinda crapped myself. Working on a ride home playlist as I type. 🤣

So we got home and ended up watching Eddie Van Halen’s guitar solo from “Live Without A Net” on YouTube.

She had it cranked up 80’s style.

Best day ever! 😁😁😁

As an antidote to boredom I have decided to learn how to play the guitar.

I'm using a Yamaha FX335C acoustic guitar and an online course by Justin Guitar.

I bought my daughter the guitar a few years ago for middle school music class. It has made a wonderful living room ornament since then until now.

Lefty player here . Played in bands for probably 12 years up until about couple of years ago . Love music and loved playing with other musicians. Couldn’t take the band drama anymore. Maybe when I retire I’ll pick it up again . I find it unappealing to practice when I don’t have a protect going on .

These are the ones that go out to gigs with me…some combination

Played a little at school.. got a new one for Christmas last year and it’s sat looking good in the corner all year.. got its first play a couple of weeks back when a friend was over (by the friend).. always get inspired seeing a discussion like this but don’t think I have patience to get back into it anymore ☹️

I have a Washburn D98S Acoustic that I mess around with occasionally. I can't play much but still enjoy picking it up from time to time.

Took lessons in the early 2000s but never stuck with it. Always been a goal to pick it back up and try to master it but haven't yet.

I dabble. Drums is actually my first instrument, but I write mostly playing guitar. I have a couple guitars but nothing too great/fancy.

Not me but GF and daughter love playing.

I’ve been strongly thinking about reducing my collection some. 3 Martins, 2 Gibsons, 2 PRS, a Nash strat, Eastman semi-hollow, a Taylor, and a Recording King. I have no need for all of them, but quite a few have some sentimental value.

I've been doing the same thing since I got arthritis in my left thumb.
