Anyone have experience with Axglo E-Carts?

Someone in our club storage had a Stewart cup holder on their cart. I took it off and tried it on the Axglo E5.

It almost fit, but was very slightly too small. I'm sure a dremel tool would be able to file it down perfectly (just trace out the Axglo profile onto the Stewart where it clicks in).

I doubt I'll get one, unless I see it on sale (too expensive), but this is 5" round, and 8 1/4" inches high.

Lots of reviews state it sucks at keeping things cold, but my water bottle is double insulated and the ice in the bottle lasts a long time in the heat.

Looks like it would work well for my intentions.

I’ve had great luck with the drink holder. I think it holds my 20 oz coffee thermos better and more securely than the Clic Gear drink holder did.

My big 40 oz water thermos is another story. It fell out on like the first hole I ever tried it on. I’ve been keeping it in my insulated bag pocket ever since. I just keep the pocket lid unzipped so it’s easy to grab it and toss it back in.

I took the Axglo E5 out for the first time this weekend - once for 9 holes and then for a whole 18. I have never walked a course before with any type of trolly - electric or otherwise so some of my comments may come from that standpoint. Also I am sure I will get used to it a little more so some of the negatives may be fleeting.

Positives:

  • I used follow mode almost exclusively, and once it was locked onto you, it did a great job following.
  • It never tipped over despite going up and down some very steep hills. I had confidence that it wouldn't tip over
  • Walking down the fairway with it following a proper distance behind was a lot of fun.
  • The cart had no issues going up or down hills in heavy grass.
Negatives
  • I was using a Yeti tumbler in the cup holder and the cup holder swivels around easily so it dumped my water out on the ground. This happened twice. I am going to have to put my drink in the side of my golf bag from now on.
  • It took me a while to realize that the cart basically needs line of sight to the remote to lock in for follow mode. I was hitting a shot, grabbing the remote and enabling follow mode, and then started walking away while trying to take my glove off. Since i had the remote in front of my body, the cart was lost and i would turn around without it following. I found the process of taking my glove on/off all the time while also fiddling with the remote cumbersome. I really wish there was a magnetic thing to attach the remote to the cart between shots rather than having to hang the rope around the handle. Its minor but when you do it 50 times a round its annoying.
  • I found myself missing the ball/club cleaner that are on golf carts.
  • The remote control must take some getting used to because I found it hard to use around the greens. I ended up just using follow mode exclusively.
Questions
  • Where do you put your scorecard? Seemed like the only place was inside the compartment so I had to get it out. I found myself only doing this once every 3 holes or so so that I could keep up with my playing partners and go as fast as I could.

Overall I am happy with it and other than having a walking caddy, I don't know how you could have a better walking experience. I think some of my negatives might go away once I get some more time with it but I really wish the remote had a magnetic holder on the cart.

I ended up buying a cheap score card holder and just keeping it in my back pocket. Took some getting used to, but once I did, it's no problem.

Appreciate the detailed write-up @razor488. I think most of us didn't realize the rubber pencil holder is also the scorecard holder when we 1st got our Axglos. (edge of the card slips under the rubber). My advice would be to get familiar with the remote too. It works very well and I'm convinced the most expedient way to use my Axglo is a combination of remote and follow. Where and when would depend upon your course but I can typically steer my cart to a convenient intersect further down my route as I'm walking (in different direction) with clubs needed to play my next shot. I personally keep my remote in my pocket so it's always available to remote or hit follow from wherever. ie...usually it's waiting for me near next tee.

How do you steer in the assisted driving mode? I just received mine, and I'm testing it on my driveway and sidewalk. It moves forward and back using the dial control on the handle, but when I press the right or left side of the middle control button, it stops. I tried to manually steer it, but it's really hard to turn.

You manually turn it in that mode or you can use the joystick on the remote. I find the easiest thing is to just use follow mode.

As mentioned, the assisted driving mode is for manual navigation (hand emoji on control panel). For example, you would use this mode in the parking lot, or to navigate around turns on cart paths between greens and the next tee. This is a forward function only, and you are suppose to be hanging onto the handles and steering it manually - there is no left or right on that dial. If you press it (regardless of where on the dial) the cart will stop and lock (why it's hard to push). You need to press the dial again to unlock it (or unlock it using the remote control). Also, you would use this function if you dropped your remote in a pond and couldn't retrieve it during a round (extreme example - also assuming couldn't use the phone app as the remote). Bottom line, the assisted driving mode is manual, nothing to do with the remote (I know you didn't mention the remote, but just saying). The only thing the dial does is control the speed (other than turning it on or off). You might also use this function to help pull you up a very steep hill if you needed that type of assistance.

And as mentioned previously, my guess is most people don't use this function all that often. I can't even remember the last time I used it. I think the only time I would ever need it is if something happened to the remote on the golf course and I was forced to use it.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, @Golfnutz_56 and @Cruskater, for your responses and help. There are a couple of long, uphill, narrow, uneven, unpaved walking paths between holes at my course, and it's hard to steer well with the remote. I tried the assisted driving mode because it is quite steep, and the cart is heavy with just manual pushing (I'm fit, but a senior woman golfer.) The steering was very hard, but I managed.
One more question: What is your preferred method for using the follow-me function? Do you leave the remote control on the clip on your back pocket or belt and press the lock button to stop, then press the unlock and follow-me buttons to start again? Or do you take the remote off the clip and put it on the cart somewhere without pressing the lock (assuming it's a flat surface and won't roll on its own? I know to press the lock on any incline to engage the brake.) I'm trying to figure out which is best, and if I leave it on the back pocket and clip, I will remove the hanging cord, which gets in the way.

When using follow mode, I might be different than others here. I normally clip the remote on to my back pocket. When I get about 4' from my ball, I take the remote out of my pocket, check where the stop button is (looking down at the remote where I have it in my hand at my side), put my finger on it, and walk about 4' past my ball and press stop. This way the cart stops at the ball. I do this while walking about 3-4 to the right of my ball so the cart isn't in the way of my swing. I don't take the remote out of follow to manover the cart like others do here.

Something you can try for better control with your remote is to put it into cruise mode, but only use cruise mode 1 (adjust the speed setting in your phone app that suits your preference). I just find it so much easier using the cruise mode for navigation the cart with the remote. Use cruise mode 2 if the max. 4km is too slow for your needs.

I treat it like a real caddy.
  • Unlock, hit the follow me button and walk to your tee.
  • Lock, place remote on the caddy, grab club, hit your shot, place club back within the bag, grab remote, hit unlock, hit follow me....and walk towards your ball. Repeat.
When walking I carry the remote in my right hand, knowing it is following behind and alongside the right hand path. On occasion, I keep the remote with me when putting - otherwise it is as above. The follow me feature is very predictable once accustomed to it.

I go back pocket, walk up to my ball, pull put the remote and stop it. I'd say about 4' back also. After I hit, I take the remote out, unlock, and put on follow. I often return my club after I've reached my next spot.

Shoutout to cruise mode for straight away stretches, in which I want more speed.

I‘m basically this.

I’ve also come to use remote cruise more when repositioning around greens and tee boxes. It’s just easier than holding the joystick forward. I really only use that method for really tight spots like small gaps between ropes, etc.

Slightly different here too. I do a similar cart positioning dance when approaching my ball in follow mode but my right thumb does the dancing. I'm either already holding the remote in my right hand or remove it from my pocket when I'm a little way out. Then, once I get about 5-10 feet from my ball, I let my thumb 'feel' 8ish o'clock on the the remote joystick button and bump it once toward 1 or 2ish o'clock. My cart veers right a little but continues mostly forward and pulls up even with me just as I'm stopping at my ball. Another little 'bump' from 12 o'clock toward 6 o'clock stops it just to the right of my ball without hitting 'stop' button. I've always preferred to walk into my ball on a direct line toward my target while planning/visualizing my shot and that little 2 second thumb dance allows me to do just that without stopping my walk-in or focusing my eyes/thoughts elsewhere.

It was a cold windy day today on the golf course. Another added benefit of the follow mode, was not having to keep one hand on the remote to steer the cart while walking down the fairway. The advantage here was not freezing my right hand (would be hard to navigate the remote with a glove on otherwise).

Used follow mode exclusively today and all was well. Made it about 4 rounds in a row without running anything over. So good going up hills. I've started stashing an extra water bottle in the netting under the console.

Appreciate the detailed writeup @j0nesy. Too bad your remote wasn't fully charged or you could've started testing out other features of your Axglo. Over the few months I've owned mine I've gotten to where I'm probably about 40% follow and 60% remote, usually changing modes as I progress down a hole. @cval is correct, you could've charged your remote from the cart USB if you had the cable with you. Same as you I assumed there was no scorecard holder the 1at time I took my E3 out. It's there, just slip the edge of your card under the pencil holder. Played in 25mph steady gusting over 40mph last week. Lost my hat when it blew off into a lake midswing but my scorecard held securely.
People still use paper score cards? :) Down The Grint and use it for electronic scoring and automatically uploading your scores to the GHIN. Just got my e5 and are very impressed with it. Like some I have no idea why some are opposed to follow me carts. It is to mind freeing. Only issue I had was the battery started flashing after 2 holes with just 2 bars showing even though I had fully charged it before. I finished the round with a golf riding cart. When I got back to the car and turned it back on, it was back to all bars. Calling support about it.

Yup still using paper ;) only way to keep track of all the bets during a round.
Hope Axglo figured out the wierd flashing battery lights for you. If not I'd double check to make sure the battery is completly seated if it ever occurs again. I've had a couple instances where I must not have had it fully seated and hit a bump early and my cart stopped, (have the E3). Can't remember if the lights were flashing but reseating the battery did the trick.

*** Side note on the drink holder issues we discussed in here a few weeks ago. Noticed an Axglo cup holder attached to a buddies Clicgear cart last week. Appearently the Clicgear accessories should fit our Axglos and Clicgear makes an extra large drink holder. Anyone coming from Clicgear have experience with that drink holder? Size and shape vessel it'll hold securely, do they indeed fit etc... Thinking of maybe ordering one for my Axglo.

Axglo PSA: I have about 25-50 rounds on my e5 and have been really enjoying it, but I‘ve experienced a bit of weirdness lately. Two times now I’ve had the cart mysteriously turn off on the tee box. Once each of the past two rounds. In both cases it turned back on and worked fine the rest of the round. This is not something that I’ve had happen before.

I called Axglo customer service (who are great), and they gently reminded me that if the cart is not placed in lock mode it will turn off after three minutes for power saving. I read the manual when I first got the cart but somehow forgot this little bit of information. I’m kind off 50/50 on leaving it locked/unlocked. Obviously on any kind of slope I lock it, but sometimes on flat tee boxes I leave it unlocked, especially if I’ve taken it out of follow mode and driven it the last few feet. Anyways it turns out nothing is wrong and it’s a feature not a bug lol.

Lesson learned.

Our course is a bit hilly. Even on the flat areas around the tees and cart paths, I always lock it just to be safe. I did have the cart shut off on me at one point (and I was wondering why the remote wasn't working). I think I was hitting a quick chip off a relatively flat area and kept it unlocked. Now I make sure I always lock it.

I have about 3-4 rounds under my belt with the E5. I am enjoying it, but I began experiencing an issue where the front two-wheel mechanism would collapse under the cart requiring me to remove my bag and put it back on completely. This happened three times in the span of a few holes yesterday.

I contacted Axglo, and they are blaming it on my Ghost Anyday golf bag. They said other people have experienced this same issue with that bag.

I will try it with a different golf bag but am quite annoyed since I spent a lot of money on that Ghost bag that apparently I can't use anymore.

Weird. I’m sure you verified the wheels were locked in place, so I’m guessing that particular bag hits the fold button somehow?

These are the pictures I sent Axglo. It doesn't look like the bag comes anywhere near the release button.

O'rly? How odd, since that locks in place. Your photos, to me, do not indicate it would be an issue with the bag. I mean....It should be locked open at that point. Next time it happens, snap a pic of the cart collapsed under the bag. Very unique issue.

EDIT: No way its the bag! Don't buy a new one, get them to replace the unit. Something has to be wrong with locking mechanism.
