Appropriate Usage of the Word Golf?

Don't think I have ever used "I just golfed". Maybe I just played golf.

my 3yo nephew has a plastic golf set that g-pa bought him and last weekend, he kept exclaiming "golf!" each time he tried to hit a ball.

"Golf!" ... run, swing "Golf!" ... run, swing "Golf!" ... run, swing "Golf!"

I did not know the most appropriate usage of the word until that moment!

He also said "I golfed it over there" when explaining where the ball went once. That was less appropriate I supposed.

the only time i will use golf as a verb is if i’m complimenting someone for “golfing” their ball. that guy can golf his ball. dude, you really golfed your ball today.

other than that, it’s a noun. i play golf. i love golf. what am i thinking about? golf.
