Only been playing golf for around a year, and keep seeing ads for Vice Golf, saying something along the lines of being top quality but a lower price. Are they legit and worth it? Not been around golf long enough to really know yet, but if I´m wanting new equipment this year they seem to be a good option. Thougthts?

The balls aren't bad, I've played them.

But Volvik makes pretty underated balls in that same price category and I'd recommend them over Vice.

I'd stay away from the equipment. Vice is essentially a direct to consumer brand. There are a few DTC style brands out there, Takoma, Vice, Haywood, Caley, Ram that essentially use the same heads, there's no real R&D behind them from everything I've learned on this site, so I wouldn't go that route.

If you're looking for value as a newer player I'd like at Tour Edge which has great value especially in their pre-owned site.

Or

I'd look at Callaway's pre owned site and look for clubs that are 3-4 years old.

Vice balls are solid. I played the Pro Plus for a while and have no complaints. I have yet to see anyone have any of their clubs in the wild though.

The balls can be a good value if one buys in bulk. With a discount i found, about 8 months ago, I got 6 dozen pro plus for about 25 a dozen. other than that, not much to add.

Vice Pro is a very good ball that compares quite favorably to the Q Star.

I like the Tour Edge suggestion, especially as somebody that is new to the game. Their Hot Launch series is incredibly affordable and packed with technology to make the game easier.

Alternatively, I'd consider buying used.

Haven’t specifically tried Vice equipment, but the reviews I’ve read have been quite positive. They seem to have good bang for the buck. Much more reasonable than your big brands at half the price. As fairly new to the game and learning your swing, brand is far less important than type. Used is an option as well, especially considering a new set will look quite used inside six months. But if you’re desiring a new set, any of the DTC brands offer excellent value. Plus you can take the money you saved and pump into lessons. Just my opinion of course. Best of luck to you.

If you are looking at them for clubs, I echo what others have said about Tour Edge - read the reviews found on this site, you might be very pleasantly surprised.

Yes, they are legit. Their HQ is in Munich and I have had the chance to visit their head office before Oktoberfest last year. Nice group of people there overall (a lot of UK folks for being German based).

The golf balls are solid (as others have said) - The funky designs and colors turn a lot of people off, but there are plain versions.

I can't speak to the woods or drivers as they I think just released and I am wary of non-bigger brands with woods.

The irons I have seen in person, but haven't hit. My friend has them as a 30+ handicap and really likes them. He has played a good amount and the black finish has held up really well.

I did roll the putters at their build shop - All the clubs are assembled in Munich as well. Putters are fine, the blade look isn't to my taste and the head did feel very heavy. The mallet I liked a lot more and I guess the cusomization options are massive, but it wasn't going to beat out my LAB.

I saw the wedges, but don't know anyone who has them so can't say much there.

- My own take is I would put them above a brand like Takomo and Caley which are drop ship companies from China. While it won't mean much to US folks they did merge with Europes largest Fitting center called HIO. Think Club Champion in the US. This helped them with designs and such, so while it won't be the same amount of R&D as the big brands with massive budgets, there is a ton of data they had access to when designing etc.

I am also a little bias here in that I am good friends with the head of HIO and we talk every few weeks. They are very much brand agnostic and maybe it will be telling, but he games the Vice golf balls, but didn't have any Vice clubs in his bag.

Sorry for being long winded, but hopefully it adds the proper context for you to help make your decision.

Tour Edge is a great, underrated brand.
PXG has some good sets, not sure on their deals and such.
Wilson has an awesome lineup this year.
Callaway Pre-Owned is one of the best sites for value and you can get amazing deals there on stellar products.

It can be a tough market to navigate as a newer golfer, but thankfully you found THP to help guide you along the way!

One of my golf buddies plays Vice balls and rates them. He plays off 16 but is rapidly heading towards single figures - so he's no beginner.

I think he either got a free wedge as a regular customer or as a result of buying a decent quantity of balls (or a combination of the both) when they were first launched. He preferred it to his existing 56, and games it and from what I have witnessed it does a fine job. Now I haven't had it in my hands and I doubt it is of the same quality as an Opus or a Vokey but as an initial offering from Vice it holds up well.

Got my first hole in one using a Vice Pro Plus, the one with the orange and yellow swirl.

Love that ball!

Never tried one of their clubs though.

I'd say if you're going towards DTC clubs then I wouldn't choose Takoma, Vice, Haywood, etc. They are all manufactured in China; same head design with slight differences. They just tag their logos on them and charge whatever. Not saying they are bad by any means, I'm sure they are pretty good. But I decided to go with Sub 70 because they design everything in Illinois. Great customer service and very affordable.

I’ve been playing the Pro Plus alongside the Pro V1x for 3 or so years now. I see nothing between them and gravitate more towards the Vice these days. I’m also see them more and more in other people hands. They don’t offer fitting which is the reason why I would never consider their clubs.

Sub70 heads are also made in China.

I've kind of looked at them as an option to use in my garage sim. Anybody got a comp on how their Pro series balls perform? I usually game V1/V1x/TP5.

Played all 3 of the original vice balls: pro plus, soft, and pro. Not really a fan of the soft, but the pro plus and pro have tested pretty favorably to the more mainstream brands. If you get them at a discount for buying in bulk, they are great. Not sure I'd spend full price on them right now.

No idea on clubs, but I generally sway towards buying pre-owned either through CPO or ebay if looking for savings rather than purchasing a DTC club (mostly for R&D and tech that is put into the major OEM brands that the DTC brands just cant pull off)

I use the Pro Plus balls and they perform as good as any I have tried.

According to Vice (I don't know what's true) they are doing the R&D and design in Munich, Germany.... which would make them nearly identical to a Sub 70 product in that regard. I'm not convinced that either company is really doing any R&D in house. Design, sure - take an available blank and make it look a little different for your brand.

Yeah I don't know... I just know that Takomo, Haywood, Caley's tops sellers all look the same. Might as well buy blanks from China and put your own logo and open a company. Again, I'm sure they all perform well; I just chose the ones that are "different" and emphasize on "In-house" stuff.
I guess the question is do these companies offer fitting? I think fitting is more important than buying a name. I know Sub 70 at least send you demo clubs for you to try and can go to their facility for fitting; I'm not sure if other's offer the same.

I had a chance to hit their forged iron the other day . I thought it looked and felt fantastic. Wished I would have snapped a pic. Rolled their putters and enjoyed then as well. Thought they looked to be of a premium look.

Not sure about the balls. The golf glove is great! Irons look nice too!

never tried their clubs but played their pro plus golf balls for a few years and they were great!

Love their Pro Plus balls....been using them since they came out in place of the Pro V1x. Good compression, great feel around the greens
