Are You A Fair Weather Golfer?

As long as it's not a downpour, or windy and cold...................I'm playing

Cold and sunny with no wind...........I'm playing
Little drizzle or a passing shower.........I'm playing

Since I've lived in Fla most of my life, I base playing off the humidity numbers and lightning anywhere in the area. Rain I have good rain suits for that, but lightning nope. I can handle temps in the 50's and even temps in the high 80's or even low 90's. But if the dew point is above 70 I'm not playing.

Yes I am. If it's not over 50 and sunshine in likely in the simulator

I dont play in Fla in the months of June thru September. Too humid. No can do. I'm in NY those months. To me Fla is the opposite of NY. No golf in summer vs no golf in Winter
I love summer golf. Heat doesn’t bother me these days.

It depends on what it actually feels like, I played on New Years Day a long time ago at a local muni in the Denver area when it was probably 43 degrees but felt warmer. I will not play if it feels cold or in any type of precipitation. Heat and humidity don't really bother me.

Each decade older I have gotten, the temperature must be 10° warmer for me to play 30’s when I was 20, 40’s when I hit 30, now 50° is as low as I will plan to play in. I got out here in Jersey today it was 50ish but cloudy and windy and I did not enjoy that much at all. I will play in light rain if it isn’t forecasted to last the entire round. I had to play enough in inclement weather in section events so now that I don’t have to, I’ll stay home.
I realize this might not work for everyone, but at age 68 I haven’t experienced this change as I have aged and have pondered why? Because your sentiment is quite common among my peers.

The conclusion I have come to is often it comes down to a difference in conditioning and overall health. I have always spent a fair amount of time outdoors each day, year around. That forces my body to get used to the current weather, whatever it might be.

I have also worked hard to stay in shape and focus on nutrition, especially to keep my immune system and body functions in good shape.

Part of the payoff is I can still easily play 4 times a week and practice a lot, and now have the freedom to do so.

I realize this isn’t even possible for some of us, but it also isn’t an all or nothing propitiation. Get what you can.

Food for thought that I hope helps some of you.

That is why those months are the flu season in Florida. The weather drives most people indoors during those months.

We can play all year round but -

Lightning … nearby

Wind is a daily occurrence here and every direction

Rain isn’t bad , good wet weather gear and off we go ..

We do t have the cold like some countries , so would be down to 5 degrees c and up to 45 degrees c I’ve played in that range …

In Fla flu season is noted by the Fl dept of health as Oct to around May 17. But in this state with all the tourist, people are bound to catch all kinds of illnesses. Never ending.

That may be, but every year the cases for flu being reported peak July through September. Even COVID cases follow that pattern.

Definitely a fair weather golfer. I don't want to play in rain or under 50° temps. Heat isn't an issue.

I play year round, cold windy and if starts to rain a bit, i will muddy through, Torrential downpour, i am heading for breakfast

The vast majority of my golf life has taken place in Arizona. So when it comes to rain and cold I absolutely am. Just because that’s such a rarity to experience that sort of thing.

However, I’ll play in temperatures that most would run and hide from.

32* & below, especially with windchill below freezing like it was last week 🥶

I'm in a similar camp as you. I'll do heat no problem. 40 degrees plus on the cold end. Hard pass on rain. Bad weather and I would rather sim golf.

Once my course gets to 0-2C every night , they close it. So i rarely miss rounds due to anything except pouring rain that might close the course.

Generally speaking if the course is open i will play. The only time i wouldn't is rain so hard they would close the course anyway.

Im not sure I have found that line to draw. I've played golf in some pretty miserable weather. Had fun doing it too.

That said, as I have managed to survive into my 70s, I'm not a fan of colder, windy days, with low chill factors. Its not so much the cold temps, but the wind that drives those colder temps even lower.

if it is modest rain, during winter I will take a stab stick, a wedge of some sort, putter and umbrella. I walk the course, throw the ball down somewhere that has given me issues and try to get up and down in three or less. Just don't enjoy "real" golf in the rain

As I age I’m becoming one. In my 40’s I’d play in literally any kind of weather including snow. Now I’m in my 60’s and much more selective. Heat doesn’t bother me but cold and excessive wind do.

It rained all day yesterday, raining off and on today, and forecast says more rain tomorrow morning ........ I cancelled my morning tee time for tomorrow.

Nope and yup.
I won’t play in big wind, I won’t hunt n bug wind, I won’t fish in big wind, I won’t barbecue in big wind.
Why golf in big wind.
I don’t mind rain, cold, or excess heat (if I can find a shady spot and anther reason I like trees on the golf course.)

I'm a bit of a fair weather golfer, at least when it comes to rain. I'll play in the summer when temps get up to around 100*, in the winter down to the low 40s, maybe as low as high 30s, I'll even play when it's pretty windy, but I draw the line with rain! If a light shower blows through while I'm on the course I'll stick it out, but other than that rain is a no go for me.

So, where do you draw the line when it comes to the weather?
Wind, light rain, 119* heat. I will play. Only an absolute downpour, or lighting can keep from not playing.

I don't think we've ever cried off due to the weather. Fog and winds over 50mph will close the course. I don't really enjoy it to the same extent when it's windy and raining but we will play and temperatures down to -2 or -3 (centigrade) are fine - only way to get lots of run in winter.
