Are Your Irons Fitted For You

I went to have my irons fitted and the fitter said that mine were perfect for me the way they were off the shelf. So i guess that means yes they are...LOL

Mine currently are not. I really want to get fit though. I just need to find someone with a good rep to do it.

One of the things holding me back from getting fit, aside from laziness, is this. How do I know the person who's fitting me is going to do a good job?
I was planning on going to the neighborhood GolfTec and based on this thread, maybe it's not a bad idea. Plus a good reason to get rid of my 10 year old hand me downs...

BTW, does anyone know if GolfTec does putter fittings as well?

You will be quite happy with GolfTEC. The THP Resident teacher Amollerud is a coach there and does amazing things with people. Check out the Ask the Pro section and he might be able to help.

Matt I got fit by Herman Williams who is the owner of the Golf Academy driving range. He does an indoor and outdoor fitting that was pretty extensive. I had a very good experience with him.

It was an article about "The zero line" The guys name was Mogg who told the author his putter was "all wrong"
Of course now I wonder about mine...

absolutely - TM fitting center

Yes...good enough anyway. I did it mostly myself with a little bit of help from the club pro. There are no launch monitors or fitting centers around so I did the best I could at the time. A lot of trial and error. They seem to work out just fine.

Sort of? I was fit for standard lie, length and lofts which I have, but my shaft flex isn't exactly right though, as I play KBS stiff shafts, and the Mizuno Shaft optimizer said that I should be softstepped once, which they are not in my clubs. Also my grips are stock, so I am not sure if I am fitted for that either.

Sort of. Didn't go through an extensive fitting, but went through a quick one at a demo day about a year and a half ago. The next set I get will be, but that's about 10 years down the road. Plenty of time for my swing to change another 6 or 7 times.

50/50. I was fit at TMPL and I have not adjusted my current set or have not bought the ones recommended for me yet.

I agree with some of the folks above that fitting is well worth in price if you find someone you can be comfortable with to do the fitting.

I compared the lie and lofts against the Miuras that I was using before I did the online fitting for my i15 Pings. It said I should use a Purple dot but it was really close that I could use red dots. I hate the color purple so I went with the red dots. LOL I also used PX 6.5 in my Miuras and went with x100 in the i15 for a change. I really like the setup now.

I had a set fitted.. luckily I fell into standard. With the Machspeeds I'm wondering if they may need to be flatter. I will definitely get fitted for irons next time but I don't see that happening for awhile. I just want to work on mechanics for now.

I was, but not real impressed with the person who did it, I am sure there are better fitters than I had.

Not yet. It's on the to-do list.

I didn't get them fitted but somehow I think they ended up being the right thing.i picked them up on ebay and they were special order Titleist not otr as they have serial numbers on every head.If I hit them pure they go exactly where I want them to go and have about 10 yds or more on anything else I've played and that has been quite an assortment.I love everything about them from performance to feel and I know they aren't my problem.

I was fitted for my last set of Irons, was supprised to find out I needed regular shafts since I'd played stiff shafts for the last 15 years. I do not hit the R9's as far as the burners but much more accurate with the KBS 90 shaft.

Yes. Adams CB-2, 1* upright, standard length and loft. I love these irons. Shafts were fitted using the Mizuno clamp on instrument, lie was fitted with impact tape.

Yes to all questions. I played with off the shelf clubs before and it is night and day difference.

No. I purchased my irons second hand, and they are all standard specs. I actually went to get fitted at a local store and using the lie board I was hitting them pretty square. But at 6'2" tall, I have a feeling that the irons may need to be a little longer than standard. Perhaps I make up for that with my gorilla length arms.

I bet this guy could get close to outdriving you, rb!

I'd take that challenge any day!

I was close to picking up a set of Nike Pro Combos (not the new ones) the other day for a price of $500 CDN... but decided that for my next set of irons, I will get fit for them since I hit irons more than 4 times in a round.

No I have never been prof fitted for any of my equipment sadly; always have gotten hand me downs or ebayed equipment. Usually just get standard lie and loft. As long as its an X I'm usually ok with trying it out.

Yes. I have a set of Ping G2s that are +1", +1° upright, regular flex, True Temper steel shafts.

They are the main reason I broke 80 for the first time last year and shot in the 30s for four consecutive weeks in our golf league this past summer.
