Arizona THP Golf League

Is this a 2 or 4 man scramble?

got it, thought this was a team event due to cart path only

After 4 events I thought I would get your thoughts on what can get better and what the league is doing right. Here are my current thoughts:

Good:

Course selection - Absolutely killing it. Not a bad course in the bunch at affordable prices. Based on the events posted for next year this will only get better.

Membership - Way more members than I would have thought to this point.

Fun - So far for me this has been a lot of fun and can't wait to continue the good times.

Bad (Maybe not bad but not good yet):

Event participation - Injuries and Covid have held us back on this. Nothing a league can do. Also I made a bad decision early on. With the new format, I think this will be improving.

Forum participation - With a lot of new members to the league and forums I would just encourage more participation. The league is great but THP is an amazing site that provides a lot information and great contests. For those that haven't participated so far, this is a great time to start.

Team events - Some players felt like they were out of it before they even teed it up. New plans for future team events: Announced before registration, more shambles and less best ball, and team skins.

Pace of Play - This is an issue with all leagues (or any course for that matter). We need to make sure we are playing ready golf and picking up if necessary.

Overall - B-

A+, just allow more time to confirm play for next event. Seems if you were on original list to play, you shouldn’t lose your place.

I think you are a little hard on yourself. For where the league is right at this moment it would be B+/A-. Every league has it start up issues.

Things to work on:

Pace of Play - I 100% agree. The rules need to say pick up here and we need to follow it. I think we also need to force ourselves to take provisionals if needed. If we are going to treat the desert as a lateral hazard then everyone needs to know that before we begin play. I don't care if you have never played the course before there is no reason to write a 13 on the scorecard for a fun league. That is not directed at anyone just a note.

Sign ups - We are going through a THP forum post so it can be a little dicey. Definitely need to know what you are signing up for before saying to are going to play. Basically you don't have skin in the game to sign up and then no show or cancel. I know there are other leagues that you have to pay at sign in but I don't want to over complicate this league just yet. :)

Team events - Have to do an A and B pool for handicaps. Then it is luck of the draw.

Good parts:

Meeting new people and playing new courses is always good and there is a good team being formed for AZ.

Our volunteers that are making this happen work their butts off and are appreciated!

Thank you for the feedback Echico. On PoP I think it was just the way everyone went out. But throughout the course you did point out bottleneck points, and were correct 100% of the time :LOL:. I do think I brought it up to out group but there is really only one thing I would propose a change to regarding our current rules. Just need full board approval.

I think we have come a long way in a very short time. So far I would give it an A. The people ,the courses and the fun are exceptional. The new sign up system will help improve the head count I think and also remind people we are playing soon.

Personally, I think you have knocked it out if the park! There will always be growing pains, but you’ve done a great job at recognizing issues, then figuring out a solution for them!

Just confirmed with Poston Butte, push carts are allowed.

That is good news. The league has been great and I look forward to getting back to Poston Butte. This time of year is the reason we live in Arizona!

I want to say I walked the course back in May. Easy walk. 9 to 10 is long but other than that it is pretty easy.

A

Like others have said, this league has come a long way in a short amount of time.

The Good:

Courses - They have been killer! It’s nice traveling outside of Tucson and not playing the same courses. I wouldn’t have played nearly the amount of different courses if it wasn’t for this league and group.

The people - Everyone from the top on down is a class act! You won’t find a better bunch of guys on and off the course. There’s always a buzz in the air when we’re all together and no shortages of laughs and smiles either.

The league in general - it goes without saying that this is a fun league. However, it is a seriously ran league. The time and effort that the BOD put into this league shows every month.

The Bad -
My gameplay in the last 4 events and my lack of participation on the forum. 😔

Nothing about the league jumps out at me and screams ‘this is horrible’. Any issues that have come up the past 4 events have been noted and discussed by the BOD. I trust that whatever processes are implemented into the league, are being put in place to make it better. I understand that after 4mos this league is still in its infancy. I can see the love for this league and making it great for all the members. I look forward to what the future holds for our league.

Ok so we are looking for a resort to stay at on next Thursday. My wife mentioned Casino del Sol. Is that a nice place?

Yes. After golf, you'll "know a guy". 😉. @Wildcat4life

It's south of Tucson.

I might know someone that can get you a good rate.:LOL::LOL::LOL:

On a serious note......It is widely regarded as the #1 destination in the Southwest. Some say the United States. The facility is top notch and the staff cannot be matched. I've also heard that they have a real smart (and handsome) guy in charge of the finances.

Hey Arizona THP'ers!

Texas THP'ers are gonna be ready for y'all!!!

Sweet. Well if that guy can it would be great. ;)

I think its cool that there will be some scouting going on at the MC and Hogan/UST experiences.

Alright , we are getting close and my wife and I are ready to travel. Looks like I will be meeting up with @Wildcat4life first on Thursday, pretty excited about that. Than will be @AzGolfer i believe we are playing a round on Saturday. Finally Sunday it is the group. Good times ahead. I thank you all for the hospitality and look forward to some fun times.

Just a reminder the Club plays this Sunday at Poston Butte. First tee time at 9:28. It will be cart path only. At least one opening available.

After a bad weekend I’m tuning up my game for Sunday. But I don’t think I will have to give up pops at this event.

We're playing the blacks? you actually get 2 strokes. I unfortunately get 25. That round at Lookout MTN playing the tips pushed my cap ⬆
