Bag Boy Volt Electric Cart

As much as I love this cart it frustrates the hell out of me that it fails in the fields it does. It is so close to a great cart and yet the short comings are so disappointing. The console speed control is horrible. The going up slopes and the front wheel popping up should have been address along with the cart falling left or right once the cart front wheel comes up off the ground all should have been addressed before the cart was released to us the paying customer. But what I consider the worst feature is the locking of either back wheel in order to turn the cart. This allows the cart to tip going down slopes or side hills. It doesn’t even come close to allowing a side slope turn first thing in the morning when the grass is wet or dew is on grass. When going up hill and the wheel goes up the cart starts falling to one side or the other and you attempted to correct it by hitting the remote you lose speed and now the cart wants to pop up every time you push forward speed on the remote. The only real way of correction is to take hold of the handle. There is no way, let me say that again, there is no way they didn’t experience this during the testing of these carts or else they only tested on flat land. I don’t want to be to negative on this cart because it has a bunch of fantastic features that make it a very nice cart. But where do we go from here? I’m not even sure bag boy could do an update if they did any changes to improve the cart anyway. I mean think about it, they didn’t have a registration on the cart when we bought them so they really don’t have a way to even contact us.
Well enough from me for a while. My cart has worked good the 2 rounds I’ve used it since getting it back from fixing the controller. And if I walk beside the cart and hold the handle the cart performs good. I guess I’m somewhat happy. Lol
Rod
Rod,
As early adopters I was really hoping the Volt would exceed expectations. I guess the bar for me was set pretty high with the MGI NAVIGATOR AT. Other than the battery placement I had few complaints after 3 years, 350 rounds of golf. I like that the Volt is easy to fold, compact and light.

Agree. Really paid attention to that in today's round. Even on flat ground, one wheel stopping to make a turn is not efficient. I am pretty sure it can be a firmware fix. Question is, do they want to ?

What's the complaint about the battery placement of the Navigator?

MGI was my second choice.

The battery puts weight at the back of the unit and it flips over.
Hmmmm. Never noticed that with my buddy's unit. His loses traction going up hill before mine will - but I've yet to see it flip over.

After meeting the Bag Boy people, I have zero doubt that if it's that easy they will be all over it.

The Bag Boy site (Dynamic Brands) has been "sold out" of the Volt for quite a while.
The Maple Hills Golf site where I bought my Volt from is accepting orders but has a disclaimer "Available for order, however the ship date from Bag Boy is 7/15."
Curious to find out if this is just a replenishment or possible some improvements to the Volt.
Here's hoping ....

Pretty sure they're just sold out, the initial release was a huge success it sounds like.

Yes, sometimes going up a steep hill. But, to be honest, unless I hold on to the handle the Volt tips over on every incline.

There is no way to use the Volt on hilly terrain without keeping a hand on the handle. The last time mine tipped, my $500 rangefinder fell out of the pouch, crashed to the cart path and broke. Going forward, I will always have my hand on the Volt if the ground is not level.

Add me in with the others that have said this has not been my experience. The only time I've ever tipped my MGI Zip Navigator AT was the one time I forgot to deploy the rear wheel. The battery placement issue has been way overblown, sure on paper the more forward placement on the Volt, the Motocaddy, and the newer MGIs is better, but in actual use the affect is minimal at most. I use mine on some pretty hilly courses, and other than the one instance mentioned above it has been rock solid on steep uphills, side hills, and going over unseen bumps and dips.

I tried putting a weight in my bag to stop wheelies but was a big fan of that. So after trying some things I thought about the ankle weights I had purchased for rehab after a surgery. I can add or subtract weight up 5lbs and have mine at 4. May go to 4.5 or 5??? I attached pictures of how and where I put it. Any other ideas are welcome!!

Did that stop it from flipping over?

I agree, I have over 1,000 miles on my Zip Navigator and have never had it tip backwards going up a hill. I do keep the rear 4th wheel extended but my course is very hilly and never have any issues. 3rd year in and no issues.

I have had mine since May of 2019 and my experience has been exactly the same. Pull out the wheelie wheel and it is extremely stable.

I had 1,750 miles on mine before buying the Volt. I had several occasions it fell back onto handlebars - very steep hill. I learned to keep hands on in that scenario. Flipped it in a bunker - got too close to the edge. Fell over several times when front hit a deep hole not visible from a distance. But the MGI ZIP NAV AT is a mini tank and nothing except my pride was damaged. I did go through three cup holders. They would wear out at the attachment point to the cart. The Volt design is much better. And it was very difficult to clean and keep clean. The Volt so stays clean of debris and mud regardless of terrain.

My previous cart was a Rovic/Alphard V2. I liked it and I still touch base with the facebook forum on the V2. Someone just posted a pre-sale link for the Alphard Cybercart (all in one) which is similar to the Volt. I was reading the specs and if they are true, it will weigh in at 43 lbs (with battery). Can't really tell if its wider than the Volt ...

I'm pushing 40 miles on the Volt and I'm very happy with the purchase. I've figured out what works control wise for me and my course and it hasn't tipped over since the initial rounds I used it (all user error). The wheelie pops don't bother me and even if they did, I'd be willing to accept them for the lightness of the cart. There are certain paths between holes I manually push the cart because of terrain and it's a breeze.

@Bag Boy one question I do have is the umbrella holder specifically designed for a Dynamic Brands umbrella? My umbrella isn't one of them and I'm used to a turn-screw to keep the umbrella in place. I couldn't figure out how to keep my umbrella secure. Luckily, it was only a passing shower and didn't need it much.

You can buy an adjustable umbrella holder from Bag Boy. It has a turn-screw to hold the umbrella secure. Bought one, works fine...

Mikey D I agree with your assessment of the volt and handle mine exactly the same as you handle yours. I must say that the wheelies do bother me, so I put some weight on the front end, and I have not tipped mine over yet.

Quick question about the scorecard area of the Volt. On my BB Tri Swivel II, there is a small clip to hold the scorecard and a pencil. On the pictures I have seen of the Volt, there does not seem to be one on the top of the compartment. Where is the scorecard and pencil kept?

Great thread on the volt, very informative as I work towards a decision. I currently use a Tri-Swivel II with the alphard V2. I love the drink holder/storage/handle setup of Tri-Swivel and the Volt looks very similar. You can't put a 30 oz Yeti Rambler in a lot of carts. I like the MGI Zip Navigator AT also, but think the Volt sets up more like I am used to with the proper accessories.
