BBQ and Outdoor Cooking Thread

The answer to my question is probably buried somewhere in this 189 page thread :p

But, I got to use a pellet grill for the first time this weekend. Nothing fancy. Just some steak for a large group of people at the lake. Turned out really good. Kind of reaffirmed that a good pellet grill could legit be a gas grill replacement. So, now I am looking into something similar. It was a Pit Boss. I won't go with Traeger simply based on price. I have always heard great things about Pit Boss. But, haven't really looked into them for a few years. Are there any new up and coming brands that you guys have found that would be even more friendly to the budget?
No knowing what your budget is, myself along with several others have the REC TEC. The reason I went with REC TEC is because of their PID controller which does a great job of keeping the temp precisely where you set it. The newer ones have Wi-Fi as standard(mine doesn't so I can't vouch for that) but it does one heck of a good job.

Budget kind of depends. I'd like to think I could stay in the $500-$600 range. But, I know how I get. I think if I were to convince my wife on the investment, it would have to be around there. We're just a family of 4. So, I don't think we would be needing a huge unit.

If you have a bull, you want a WiFi controller?

The one in mine is off a bit on the temperatures and is an earlier WiFi model that can't be adjusted. Still cooks fine. Emailed rectec and they sent an updated one next day. 🤯

If I ever get around to replacing it, cover shipping and I'll send it your way.

For me it's just myself and my wife so I have the small one RT 340. It still does a great job except when I need more room I'm having issues with over crowding. Was going to buy a RT 590 which is in between the bull and mine, but needed the money for other things. I will be buying the 590 come winter(if they have a sale) or spring. I enjoy smoking stuff and have a lot of guys come over for food and drinks.

If you have a family of 4 I would think the 590 is all you would need IMHO. You can go to their website www.rectecgrills.com and see the features and benefits of each model. The 590 comes with a 4 year tip to tip warranty. Hope this helps. BTW it's a little north of your target price.

I really appreciate your generous offer, but I have a RT-340 and will be getting rid of it later this year or early spring for a new REC TEC. Mine is 4 years old and I would like to have more space.

Thanks Again!!

Napoleon Sizzle Zone?

The grates looked similar but I see the difference now. Nice sear going

Yeah I use that feature as much as possible, but Have yet to use the rotisserie though

I'd love a napolean or other high end grill next priority is a shed lol

Did wings last night on the Rectec, one of our favorite quick cooks!

Overnight pork shoulder on the smoker to end up as carnitas. After a three hour rest I pulled the shoulder and threw it on the Blackstone to get nice and caramelized. The tortillas were awesome too - a corn/flour blend that held up extremely well. I thought we had cotija cheese, but we didn't. Good old cheddar here, but they were still crazy good.
