Pure WWII Enthusiast:

Bataan and Back to the Bataan
Merrill's Marauders
Twelve O'Clock High
In Harm's Way
Sahara

Hell is for Heroes

The Broken Chain
Geronimo
Geronimo: An American Legend
Zulu
The Alamo
Fort Apache
Into the West

dunkirk is a fantastic movie as is 1917. But not a classic.
Yeah. Otherwise is was insisting on Band of Brothers as the correct answer.

Love band of brothers and have watch the whole thing like a dozen times. The pacific is good to. For some reason I come away feeling very sorry for marines in the pacific.. they seem to have just come home so broken..

I feel that way after watching both films. I have watched them each 5-10 times.

Among the newer movies compared to some mentioned

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Black Hawk Down
3. U571
4. 1917

All so good. On top of the many (obviously) incredible scenes, an underrated aspect are the quieter, up-and-down emotional scenes in Ryan (the medic telling the story with his mom, Ryan telling the story with his brothers, etc) that are weaves into the intense action. And the way they shot 1917 to where it *feels* like 2 shots had a masterful effect.

I also have a caveat , l think they should be either based actual event , or person . mine were as l placed more credence on the basis of the film not who directed or actors etc .. l think the actual events are worth that merit .
( maybe bit serious , but yes war is )

If otherwise ,,, we can include
Star Wars within this category ……… lol or Battleship lol or Battlestar galactica ? Hahahahaha
Good call. Non-fiction is a must.

1. Schindler's List
2. Apocalypse Now
3. Full Metal Jacket
4. Patton
5. Braveheart

Honorable Mention: Heartbreak Ridge
How did I overlook Schindler’s List?!

In no particular order:
Fury
Patton
Dirty Dozen
Midway
Sink the Bismarck

And of course
Stripes

surprised you didn’t mention Top Gun ;)

Top gun!

Kinda classic, kinda war movie

We are this many posts in and no one has mentioned Iron Eagle.

Not an action movie, but a great one nonetheless:

1. Saving Private Ryan-Normandy Beach was as intense as I’ve ever seen.

2. Full Metal Jacket-I love Boot Camp but the rest is good too.

I like all the classics, but I think a really cool original movie was “Hurtlocker”.
That final scene made the whole movie

Audie Murphy playing himself in, "To Hell and Back" and Youth in, "Red Badge of Courage"

Sure, it’s a 10 part series but…. Band of Brothers….. also agree, the opening of Saving Private Ryan is unmatched and Full Metal Jacket are my top three.

Sands of Iwo Jima is my favorite immediately post WWII made movie. However, The Duke getting it in the end, completely threw me off as a kid…. 🤯

For me it'd be the following:
Stalag 17

Stalag 17 is a solid pull.
My favorites:
Paths of Glory
In Harm's Way
The Big Red One

Paths of Glory is Kubrick’s best effort at a war film. Fight me.
In Harm’s Way has an absurd cast and stands above the other movies of that era with “All Star” casts (Midway, A Bridge Too Far, etc.)
The Big Red One is a definite dark horse here that goes under the radar.

I’ll throw in The Man Who Never Was, not a shooting war movie but good nonetheless.

And for the folks throwing in 1917, please stop. This just reminds me of how much I want to pick up a No. 1 Mk III Lee-Enfield. 😞

some of the worst movies ever made if we are being honest. Liked them as a kid but tried to watch them recently and cringed too much to make it through.

I am still a fan of Iron Eagle. Iron Eagle 2 though 4 are unwatchable.

Sometimes when I hit a drive really far right, like off the planet right, I yell “Chappyyyyyyyyyyyy”

Patton
Fury
private Ryan
band of brothers, a series not a movie but awesome
torá torá tora

The first Movie i remember seeing in a theatre, "The Great Escape" 1963

A Bridge Too Far

Are you sure you want to put Iron Eagle 3 in the unwatchable category? Especially since we got some info in Austin about someone's highlight of their career in that one. :ROFLMAO:
