Do they not have pre Monday qualifiers on the korn ferry tour to weed out stuff like this?
At a given Korn Ferry Tour event a few local courses will host a Monday qualifying day. The fields usually include non exempt pros touring around trying to make it on that Tour by getting into events via the Monday qualifiers, local club pros, and some local amateurs. The $450 entry fee usually dissuades poseurs from playing, but not always.

According to an article I just read from Golf Digest, the guy is a “social media influencer”. Showed up at the qualifier in a crazy loud outfit with his clubs in a wagon, playing walk-up music. He also attempted a Happy Gilmore swing during the qualifier, as well as hitting a one-handed chip.

So apparently he’s just another assclown looking for his 15 minutes of fame. I’d say he deserves every bit of derision he gets, but attention wh*res like him just revel in it anyways.
The article is wrong in a lot of ways. He played at the other course used for the qualifying, The Bridges in Gunter, TX, where I belong. Missing is the fact that he drove up in a Porche, told others he was a porn star in California, and didn't care if he qualified or not. The assistant pro described his outfit as almost a dress and yes, no bag but some kind of wagon to hold his clubs!

"Social media influencer", lol. If anyone is influenced by these so called influencers, more's the pity.

OK, so with more info it turns out the guy was on a self promotional tour and didn’t really care about the golf? That changes my view. He’s an asshat.

Would I be a terrible person to acknowledge that I'd be OK if someone had keyed the eff out of his Porsche that day?

I feel bad for the guy in the group who shot -2.

Respectfully, if this is about qualifying for a Korn Ferry Tour event, and the guy showed up the way he did... I don't see why he would even get the chance.
that I agree with as it does affect other players you are with and players behind you as you grind the play to a halt

live been waiting for someone to say this. Everyone here is upset with the clown who shot the 108, I’m blaming the “tour” for what happened, not him.
Apparently the Koran Ferry is no different from 99% of the other mini tours. All they care about is getting another entrance fee in their coffers. If this wasn’t the case the minute this guy got from the parking lot to the clubhouse he would’ve been sent back home.
If nothing else, this guy exposed this Qualifier for what it was... a cash grab for the KFT.

If that's the case, and all they want to do is grab at cash, they should do two waves of golfers...

Ones who can validate their 2 or better, and then everyone else. Let the 'everyone else' play at a different time.

I really don’t know anything about KFT qualifiers (although them letting a guy looking like that tells me a lot) but living where I do, we have a ton of mini tour events in our area.
Trust me, you’re agood player. You’d probably be better than 70% of the guys entered. All these tours care about is getting enough entrance fees to survive. They could care less about protecting the field, or the integrity of the event, much less a qualifier.

I think there is a big difference in letting a 2 handicap pay to go out and really try to play but shoot a bad round vs. a guy going out and just doing it as a stunt. If he was just dressed goofy and really tried to play and shot an 85 then that's fine, but to try and "Happy Gilmore" a drive and intentionally doing other stuff just for the views is where I have a problem with it. It is a distraction from the other guys who are really trying to play and qualify.

if it's the guy that was mentioned several posts back..... he seems like a real sideshow act, so i'm guessing it was a farce.

Sidenote… Tony Romo is playing in the event here in DFW starting today.

-2 through 2.
I don't have any heartburn with Romo being out there. Dude is a good golfer and legitimately trying to compete, and he doesn't make a sh*tshow out of it (so basically just the opposite of, say, Bill Murray, who shows up for any event he's in dressed like a clown and then proceeds to act like one).

Actually, when I think about it, the dude who's the topic of this thread is basically Bill Murray minus the celebrity power.

I get what you’re saying, but that goes to my point about these qualifiers being a cash grab, doesn’t it?
The minute this guy walked up in that outfit and with that cart setup, they would’ve sent him home if they weren’t.

I've heard that a lot of guys will sign up for these events to play courses they would otherwise not be able to get on.

....but if that's where the Tour is getting the monies to pay out their players, I guess it's a necessary evil.

Bill Murray has been great for the annual AT&T Pro-Am. He's got a fine swing and strikes consistently good shots. I think he and his pro partner (s) have made the cut several times and may have won it one year as well. He is by far the most popular celebrity for the spectators to follow , interacting with them very well while at the same time not compromising the focus of his pro pairing (s) or the pace of play for the tournament field. He epitomizes the true spirit of tournament founder Bing Crosby's vision , which is to pair movie actors and, or, celebrities with golf pros so that spectators may get a good show and money is raised for charity.
In contrast, "celebrity pretend pros" such as Justin Timberlake, Jake Owen, Tony Romo, attract relatively few gallery and their bragging handicaps cause their team to be a non factor within the Pro-Am competition. Unlike Murray , at the AT&T each year these poseurs fancy themselves as "near Tour pro skill level" and rarely interact with the gallery.
