Breaking 80 with Adam Rank

@Adam Rank it looks like your backswing is getting longer. Is that something you’ve noticed and/or are working on?

Also, this has me weighing the personal pros and cons of getting some Golftec lessons, lol.

The first thing they worked on at GolfTec is being straighter at address (not as hunched like an 80-year-old). And then getting that full turn in. I keep expanding it, and it's getting longer and longer. Just that part of it has made the GolfTec experience worth it to me. I've been really pleased with it.

Good to see you getting in 30 minutes of ball hitting after playing a full round! The swing is looking great man!
It was nice to get that in. I was supposed to have a lesson today, but pushed that off.

The best thing -- and I could have put this in an earlier reply -- but GolfTec is so good about not giving you too much to work on. Just getting a tip a lesson is better than trying. to cram in 90 swing thoughts.

It's funny, my guy Alex asked me last week, what are your swing thoughts. And I'm all, stand straight, get my hands up high, turn my shoulder and blah, blah. He laughted and said, "you're now automatically doing all of that. Now work on this." It's been awesome. If not for some dumb things today. I'd been flirting. with 79.

I will upload the card a bit later. Played Thursday at Indian Wells Country Club. Played from the tips and shot a 93. Had some great moments, however. Still grinding.

I know, 85. But was much closer than you would imagine.

Love no doubles on the back. Made better decisions. It's going to happen.
Making great progress

I feel you’re getting so close that every time I see the pop up I’m expecting to see you’ve broker 80!

Keep it up.

May have missed this, have you done any on course lessons with your Golftec coach?

Getting close... definitely going to happen.

Getting close. No doubles is huge. Feel like damn is going to break soon.

The on-course lesson is something we are going to discuss on Tuesday (July 1) and then figure out a date. I'm better about not doing anything dumb. I doubled No. 2 after I plugged in the bunker (which was wet and difficult to get out of).

I doubled No. 3 when I pushed one right into the water (still almost recovered for a par but bottled two putts).

No. 6 was avoidable. If you're an inch off the fairway, you need to take your medicine and try to get on in four. I didn't. I paid. But it led to better decisions on No. 8 (laying up instead of trying to carry the water off the tee). I had a great approach on No. 9 but got caught in kikuyu grass off the green. Huge bummer.

But using that knowledged, I laid up on No. 13 for bogey (hardest hole on the course). Laid up on 18 that led to a par, too. I'm feeling good about it.

I also did a great job of lag-putting, but really wish I could have made about three (maybe six) more putts. But No. 17 and No. 18 were really clutch, so I can't complain too much.

That ability to give ourselves credit for a good shot/putt that isn't perfect will go a long way. playing for safe bogeys will give you more looks for par!

I am striving for the elusive breaking 80 round too. 83 three times. thanks for sharing your journey with us.

Thank you!

I also play the same course a lot, and it gives me knowledge of what holes to play for bogey -- althought I've added length and don't really need to conede any of that.

I'm proud of playing it safe on No. 8. Missing a decent sized birdie, but making that par.

If it makes you feel any better, my rounds look like this: 81, 79, 81, 78, 82..... THEN 95! 98! 93! Now a few 80s scores again. Today I went par, par, par, par, bogie, par, then it all went to crap and ended up with an 85. Golf. Is. Difficult.

I want you to do well, too! I doesn't make me feel better! LOL. I'm kidding. I appreciate what you're saying. It's so easy for something to just slide away.

I will say that if you want to shoot in the 70s and already can score I the 80s it's all about your chipping and putting. I can play my normal game tee to fairway, miss a green and if it's a bad day it takes me too many shots to get it done but if it's a good day, chip and a putt or even 2 putts and all the sudden it just happens.

He is actually a great putter and short game is solid.
Im glad to see GolfTEC working on his swing. He will get there in no time.

I can vouch for the first part.

When I said "you" I probably should have said "someone" to be general for the whole thread. There's a weird putting chipping dynamic when going from say a 12-15 index down to 5-10 index where the putting (in general, not for Adam's game) will look good number of putts per round but then when getting better and missing less greens the putting number goes up because there's no chipping close to the hole for a 1-2 putt. At least I've noticed that in my game and a couple of friends. YMMV

@Adam Rank I had a chance today. I played the best round of my life. I tried to really embrace the pressure hitting the green on the last par 3 i felt a huge rush as I knew I had a great chance to break my personal best.

I nearly made a birdie on 17. That tap in par let me go to the box on the par 5,18 sitting at +9. (Par 71). I hit a really good drive but it rolled out into a fairway bunker. Knowing that if I made a birdie, I would break 80, I had to pull a hybrid and go for broke to give myself a chance. Unfortunately I hit it fat and was rejected by the lip.

It was a huge disappointment. But I’d do the same thing next time. The reward had I pulled it off, was too great to play the safer shot.

Very cool, what a great follow!

Interesting...I had time to go deep into threads today and now will have to read from the beginning. Good luck Adam. Enjoy and congrats in advance!
