Bridgestone VS Prototype Golf Balls

I plan to get some ball speeds and distances off the driver and wedges if possible.
Will you be doing this outdoors? With the cold weather predicted-numbers will be affected.

Yes outdoors and understand numbers will be affected. I have Chrome Tours in the bag as well to compare.

Have 2 rounds planned for AZ this weekend, but looks like we might be getting rain both days so not 100% sure we will get out. Have 2 sleeves packed so if we do actually get out on the course I should hopefully be able to put the VS Red through it's paces

I've been had a couple rounds with the Bridgestone Proto VS Green ball snow, and they’ve really made a strong impression. First time in a while I've been genuinely excited about a Bridgestone ball. The feel is excellent. It's right in that sweet spot between soft and firm, and they generate a ton of spin around the greens without getting funky on full swings. What’s really stood out so far is how well they handle in the wind. The flight stays stable and consistent, even on knockdown shots or drivers swings into a breeze. I plan to get some launch monitor data soon to see how the numbers back up what I’ve been seeing on the course, but early on, this ball feels like something I could play regularly.

I am finding that the VS Red performs very nicely in the wind as well.

want to get out maybe today or tomorrow for another quick 9 at par 3 course before it starts snowing at the end of the week.

Does the Green have an irregular dimple patter like the Red?

What do you mean by irregular dimple pattern. I think all of these in the VS line have the same dimple pattern.

Interesting. Slightly irregular but not as much as the Red. It seems the prototypes have different dimple patters as part of what Bridgestone is trying to achieve. I will post more closeups of the Red tonight (there is one earlier in this thread). I will search for Blue and Black closeups too. Any thoughts on what BS might be doing?

It doesn't look like it to my eye. There are a number of dimples that are smaller in size than the majority. I will post more VS Red closeups tonight when I get home.

I think all golf balls have that as based on the dimple numbers its not possible to make them all the same size, and I'm sure some of that is aerodynamics. Titleist, Callaway, Srixon all have some dimples that are smaller than the others.

Here is a close up of my VS Red ball. Seems to have a dimple in a dimple. Also shallower dimples.

Hard to say for sure, but matching the aero properties to the intended performance attributes is my guess.

Getting my VS Greens tomorrow according to UPS

Spent some time this afternoon on the ST+ with the VS Red during a SIM round where I only used a 7i. The launch, ball speed, spin and ball flight I was seeing was second to none. Carry distances were up about 5-7yds to what I typically see from the CT3D. Feel for me was fantastic and I was able to work the ball in both directions.

So far the durability is holding up very well as this ball has about 200+ shots on it. Albeit hitting it indoors.

If I zoomed in with the Magnifer app I could see one blemish.

How were the spin numbers versus the other ball?

I’ll have to grab my scrap paper so I can go through those numbers. A little bit higher than what I see of I remember correctly.

First Round

Ok, got the second round in with these today and a much better experience with them. All 3 made it back from course and none of them really have any damage. The round I played today was a stark difference to what I played in Tucson. I did start the round with some Chrome Tours and then switched into the VS Blue around hole 8. I did this because I really wanted to see how I was playing. A pretty big difference from the last time.

Off the tee - This ball was getting my normal distance with driver and was launching super easy. Again I don't really notice changes in feel unless it was a rock. The feel off of driver with these golf balls was not harsh.

Irons - boy oh boy was I hitting some good shots today with the irons. Again no real feel difference but I was launching the ball and getting them to stop pretty quickly. No real distance issues with the ball as they seem to fly similar distances to the Chrome Tours.

Short game - I had some really good chips and pitches with the VS Blue. I was throwing in shots at a mid or high trajectory. They were stopping pretty quickly and leaving me with a lot of makeable putts. Out of the bunker they were also popping right up and landing soft on the green.

Putting - The greens I played today did not have the same run out as I had previously played but they were pretty good. These felt the same as the Chrome Tour and responded well to what I wanted to do with them. I could get aggressive or try to baby it pretty easily. I did try to line up a putt with the alignment line and I had no issue with the size of the line. I don't typically use the line but figured I would at least try it a few times during testing.
