Bucket List Golf Resorts

Only the ones I've played:

1. Pinehurst
2. Sand Valley
3. Kiawah
4. Big Island (Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani)
5. Horseshoe Bay

Looking to add Cabot, NS soon. Would like to do Northern Michigan as well
Oh! How was Horseshoe Bay? As a Texan I've been wanting to check it out but haven't had a chance yet.

Just got back from Streamsong, and compared to Hilton Head, or Hawaii, golf trips I've been on, Streamsong is a true golf resort. Everything is based around golf. I went with my parents and will say we had a great time, but there is nothing else to do out there so be ready to live and breathe golf for a few days. Really enjoyed all three courses, my only gripes are the food was hit or miss for the price, and the golf at times seemed a bit rushed. We played in about 4:00 - 4:30 each day which was a nice pace, but with 10 minute intervals for tee times it's like you get sent off bunched up imo. And then combined with multiple driveable par 4's and some of the crazy green complexes, it is easy to get out of position. We were told that we were behind on the 3rd green, which we were and by no means was anyone in our group a slow player. After one hole we had caught up and the group behind us never saw us again the entire day. Even after a picture at the windmill and a stop at the halfway house.
We also did a trip to Hilton Head (Sea Pines) last summer and that was a lot of fun, but not a true golf resort imo, more of a family resort with lots of golf available.

Hawaii and Pebble are other golf resort/golf trips I've been on, but those were about 20 years ago so hard to remember as I was a teenager. Hawaii is amazing even without golf and probably the top of my list for a future golf trip, aside from Scotland or Ireland.

My list is currently an all in-state run (which I am making in 2026 with a group of friends )

1. Sand Valley
2. Erin Hills
3. Sentry World

This will be in late May of 2026 and a Monday - Friday trip. Going to be an insane run and cannot wait till it gets here.

When you go to SentryWorld you should try to hit up Stevens Point CC. You will not be disappointed

I’ve played it once before! That was before all the work they’ve done in the past few years. It is on my list to play this year as I’ll be playing Sentry in August. Going to try to hit both over a couple days.

One of the best courses in the state IMO

A few I haven't seen mentioned that I would add for my list:

McLemore
Reynolds Plantation
Nemacolin

First rate experience with the hotel. Golf courses are immaculate. Sort of a cross between firm and fast Texas fairways/greens and a more lush manicured experience. Apple Rock has a ton of elevation, pretty views, and a lot of side slopes. We played it in 40 mph winds and it was miserable. Slick is pretty with the waterfall hole and fairly flat. Ram Rock has elevation, side slopes, and tons of bunkers (we didn't have a chance to play that due to maintenance when we were there). I like HSB because it almost reminds me of a beach front resort in say Florida combined with Texas hill country. I'd go back again for sure.

People are exceptionally nice. We had booked Apple twice with Slick in the middle. After our experience in the wind (think right to left 40 mph gusts with the fairway sloping right to left. I aim up the right tree line, see my ball land in the middle right of the fairway and roll all the way to the left and down into a canyon!), the head pro moved our last round from Apple to Slick.

Pebble.. I don’t really know any of the other ones that get mentioned in the US.

Doing a weekend and playing whatever the women just did at Augusta would be something (I think they play 3 days at different course, Augusta National the last day?).. I guess that’s not a publicly available option though

I’d join any trip back to the motherland but don’t really consider those bucket list courses (although the trip would be to do it with a group from across the pond)
When are we going?

If you played it before the renovation you are in for a treat then.
