Callaway Apex Ai150 Irons

Back to the sim today. I remain very impressed with these irons. I’m pretty rusty at the moment and hitting a lot of shots off the toe. The trackman shows a video of impact in each shot. These irons are incredibly impressive in the forgiveness and speed they still have when I’m missing the center. I’m noticing DISTANCE when I hit in the center. The feeling off the center is very nice and the ball just explodes. Landing angles regularly hovering around 47 degrees.

Also, looks like the 150s are half an inch shorter than my Mizunos. Didn’t notice until I got home to compare. That could explain the toe misses a little bit.

I haven't checked descent angles, but on the sim, lots of stopping power.

Been a little over a week since I’ve swung these sticks as we were on vacation and I didn’t take clubs with me. Really looking forward to getting back into the groove of it.

Inching closer and closer to the start of the season here in WI

I’m really happy with how my game is progressing playing the Ai150’s. The biggest adjustment going from my previous irons has really been the new shaft. But it’s really starting to come around. My distance control has improved, my ball flight has improved, and my confidence from 200 yards in is pretty high right now.

There was one shot today that stood out to me. I was 195 yards from the center of the green with the wind to my face. I knew it would be tough to get there, but I hit a nice easy 4 iron that was pin high on the left side of the green. I’m seeing this consistency throughout my bag and I’m really happy with my iron game.

These irons continue to impress me and can’t wait to get on grass in a few months. I got a couple of rounds in at the end of the season but have spent a lot of time with them on the sim. They are really good, sound/feel is fantastic and I get really spin numbers out of them. Wish I would have gotten the 4 iron as I hit the 5 easy better than the Apex UT

There are days when I am hitting the launch window I want. Some times they're a little low. Definitely a swing thing, but these do seems sensitive.

They are going to let you know when you don’t put a good swing on it. These have been launching high for me. Could be a shaft thing. Came from X100 to the 120 X100. I do like that you can flight these irons. They want to go high and straight with a stock shot for me, but will allow me to bring the height down on three quarter shots.

Finally made my purchase yesterday after much, much testing! I haven't tested this much in the iron department ever, and I really think it's going to pay off this year on the course!

Went with the following:

AI 150 5-PW
C-Taper 120s - hard stepped 2x
+1/4" length
1* flat
1* weak

Can't wait to get these on the course! Most consistent irons i have ever hit!

Workability is insane with these, I’ve never been one to work a ball, but the few scenarios where I’ve needed to punch one out low or get around a tree, I’ve been pretty successful.

That's such a tinkerer build. I love it !

Wanted to go with the the 130x's but the 120 hard stepped twice will get me close to the 130's without the extra weight
Honestly absolutely love that thought. Excited to hear how it works!

@CSILKEY7 did you do custom colored badges?!

Has anyone went to test these against the competitors in this class since getting them? How are you liking the shiny face color instead of satin?

While I haven't played outside with them yet really the shiny chrome hasn't bothered me at all!

I love the chrome look. That is one thing that separated the 150s from the 200s for me.

I haven’t done much by way of comparisons to the P790s yet, but plan to do a lot when the season opens here.

I also have a set of King Tours I’ll compare them to as well. None are exact apples to apples for loft, but all a “similar” category

I hit the new p770 4 and 5 irons against the AI150 a lot in the trackman but those were the only clubs.

The numbers were very similar.

I never really hit the 770 short irons, those were the ones I really liked in the AI150 set because of the extra launch and distance. Part of that is I have problems hitting any irons high once you get like below 27 degrees

I haven't seen it with the AI150s, but with the Elytes, when I worked clean them, there wS enough glare to cause significant misreads.

I haven't had that with the AI150s

One thing I have done, and I’ll get photos up, is compare blade lengths of all three. What I love is that the Ai150s really look no more compact than the P790. They inspire plenty of confidence. I have a case of the toe strikes at the moment, which is my common miss with irons and for whatever reason even worse inside, but the strike consistency is nearly exact every time. The C-Taper 130 with the hardstep is playing a big role in that IMO.

Once I get that cleaned up and start finding the middle again, I am going to be very pleased with the numbers. Swing work is constant
