Callaway Apex Ai150 Irons

For those of you that have sets through the AW, why did you chose the set AW over a specialty wedge?

Can't seem to decide between ai150 aw or opus SP 50°

For me it’s because I still like to take more full shots with the AW. I’d like to have as much technology in that spot as possible similar to my irons. I don’t need more spin, or even more touch around greens, with an AW, so I stick with the set

That is where I am leaning as well!

I can't remember the last time I took a less than full swing with my approach wedge

I’ve always gone with the set wedge because I had more confidence with them with full swings.

With how good the SP is, I almost wish I’d have gone that way just to try it. And possibly add a touch more versatility

Could not have said it any better myself!

That was the main selling point to me when finalizing what irons I wanted this year is how much "help" they have in such a good looking design
The forgiveness of such a compact head really cannot be overstated. I hit some toe balls, like way in the toe, at the Grandaddy and these held the line and still got out there

I take the AW because I need all the forgiveness available!

It was crazy to me! Some of my shots in the sim felt like I toed it so bad and the ball just stayed its line and wasn't too short of the green! It was amazing to see in action

This is where I am torn, I might get the sp and see how it is. Really intrigued by the extra versatility and the possibilities around the green. I am also slightly concerned the AI150 AW might be "too hot" if that makes sense

Definitely. Limited sample size, but I had zero issues hitting both the 52 and 56 Opus SP. If you’re a better player especially, I don’t think you’d have any issue

Very valid concern. I have the 150 AW and then go 54, 58. Coming from the Apex Pro 24, the PW was 135, AW was 120, 54 110, and 58 100 and in. Moving to the 150s with the speed and lower lofts PW is now 140, AW 125 (have it 130 when really going after it, which means some 3/4ths with AW to cover the gap between it and the 54.

This is useful info right here, I appreciate it! I think if I got the AW in the AI150 I would go a degree weak to match the rest of my set!

Gosh darn are these things fun

what is that an 8 for you?
Haha no it's a 7. You can see it wasn't flushed by the smash factor. Some swing changes are teaching me to launch irons a lot more, which has been fun! Going to try going back to midsize grips as well.

Has anyone went to test these against the competitors in this class since getting them? How are you liking the shiny face color instead of satin?
I’ve hit a t150 4 iron and I’m more a fan of the Ai150. The feel and sound are better coming off the Callaway. That said I have really hit a titleist I’ve been in love with so there’s that. I don’t notice the chrome vs satin either at address but for flashy looks in the bag gimme the chrome all day.

Took the 7 iron out for warming up today as it was a hybrid to driver session today. The fact that after a couple 50-60 percent swings and I’m loosened up that I can get a 183-185 carry out of this is just silly! Taking some off and getting 175 when I want is another thing I love! Just hitting it and knowing from sound and feel it’s a well struck shot that is going to fly where I want, that’s just a great feeling right there!

Irons shipped out! Except for the 6 iron:ROFLMAO: it's backordered until end of March!

Can't wait to get these in the bag

3 sim sessions in. These irons are crazy forgiving. The amount of times I hit it off the toe and landed on the green is ridiculous. They are at least a club longer than my MP 243s. Just fun to hit

Played a sim round yesterday and these irons really performed well. Target range beforehand and this was one of the better 7i shots I’ve hit in a while.
