Callaway Apex Ai150 Irons

So today was odd for distances I was 10 yards under carry across the bag on the GC Quad compared to the SkyTrak at GolfTec. 145 9 iron and 175 out of the 7 iron. I was catching the 9 a little thin which tells me I was standing up a bit coming through the ball but for it to still get it out within 10 yards of my expected carry is fantastic. 7 iron was better more center contact and I was getting my draw and a bit of a fade when I tried for it. The downside to my fade is when it doesn’t fade it’s a straight ball right where I’m aiming. So I guess I’m not leaving the face open through the ball, but I took this knowledge/feel and applied it to a straight down the middle shot for a few swings and it worked out well. Upon getting home and wanting on a mat in the garage I realized again like my fairways I wasn’t taking a full backswing and that’s probably where my distance loss is coming from. Good day with the 2 irons I took to warm up with.

I've got a nasty trend going of contact becoming more and more heel side. Shots are still alright.

Some distance discrepancies, but for the most part I'm seeing longer shots with all clubs. About 5-10 yards further. It's making it fun to be aggressive from 170.

A few weeks ago I ordered the Ai-150 4-iron to try against the UT. I’ve struggled a bit with the UT as far as ball contact, so I decided this past weekend to put the 4-iron in play, and did very well. We were playing Jekyll Island, and the wind off the Atlantic Ocean was blown into our face, below is an overhead of the hole we were on. I was able to reach the green in 2 and walk away with Birdie. I had 183 yards to the front of the green, it was 195 to the center. I normally hit a four iron and 195 yards so I knew that if I came up short, I would be OK. I landed on the front of the green with a penetrating shot. The Ai-150 for iron is shorter than the UT, so I’m sure that’s why I got better ball contact. I’ve gained 0.72 strokes and though I don’t use this club often, I think it’ll stay in the bag for a while because it provides confidence

I haven’t traditionally loved a chrome finish on irons. Too reflective in the sun. But man, the Ai150 showed no signs of real glare in the CA sun and look SO damn good.

Irons were not my strong suit today, but it was my swing. I really need to get back to drills, but time is just not there. These irons are just so damn good though. The feel is so fricking good. Distance is there. These paired with the CTTD I’m definitely longer than the Avodas I was playing which were longer than my Apex Pro 24s. Chrome seems to be holding up good. I get a lot of compliments on them too.

I played Oakmont on the sim today. On the par 3 6th, the screen said 170 to a front flag.

A discerning player would be upset they hit a 170 shot 175 , but I'm not that guy. It's fun seeing a good fit allow me to be confident on tough shots

Some simple swing changes and some stuff effing shafts, I feel good on these type of shots.

Great shot my man. Ball flight looks good and the distance is there.

Thanks man. Something about a push draw makes my heart flutter

I have mentioned how these haven't been launchers for me. Welp, with just a little guided practice and simple drills, these irons are comical. This is a 7i after playing a sim round and 20 swings with the Hackmotion.

Getting these things slotted, and through the ball feels like I'm not contacting anything. Just an explosion off the face. Really cool to feel with an iron.

Got back from my annual trip last weekend and still geeking after some of the shots I pulled off with the 150s.

My trip is a 4 day competition, Ryder Cup style, and came down to the last day. In my match, I had a 160 yard tee shot into the #16 Redan at Lookout Mountain (stellar club by the way). After my tee shot, I could hear the group ahead of me scream when my ball landed on the green (it’s blind and uphill).

As we got to the hole, we discovered my shot landed about 3 feet from the hole - tap in birdie to win my match AND the competition.

I love these irons so much - shame they will be moved shortly to make way for the 3DPs. But we will always have shots like this. 😍

Had a March Madness Pool team draft on Wednesday this week at the local sim place in town, so naturally took my clubs along so I could hit some balls aftewards.

Ended up playing the front 9 of Victoria National, and the Ai150s performed exceptionally well. Same things I've seen on the MLM2 Pro, which is very encouraging.

When struck well, the feel of these irons is just fantastic. The ball takes off like a rocket off the face. A pured 6 iron into the par three 5th carried 180 and was actually 5 yards long of the pin at 175. Landed and just rolled off the back of the green.

I am finding that on misses, I am losing distance but not losing my line. Which is huge IMO. The distance loss is not significant, but noticeable. Which it should be with an iron like this. I am absolutely loving these clubs and cannot wait to get back onto the course with them.

There is a "Brand Festival" at a golf course about 20 miles away from me in late April where they are doing fittings, competitions etc....

I have booked a fitting with a Callway rep to try out the Ai150s, and the Forged Max for a bit of fun and some research. Very happy with the Ai200s I have but depending on what launches this year I might well be in the market for new irons in early 2027 ready for the start of next season.

Interested to see how a players iron differs from the players distance I'm currently in.

I went into the Grandaddy fully expecting to fit into the Ai200s, but the performance drop off was very minimal between them and the Ai150 and I just loved the look of the 150s.

Super happy I ended up being fit into them. Looking forward to hearing how you get along with them.

It can't be over sold how forgiving these irons are for the size that they are. It's crazy. The feel on a good strike is my favorite on any club I've hit as well. Not too mushy, just powerful and crisp. Numbers are pretty dang good too...

I long for the chance to smash these irons with you on a Dormie property

Was looking through some stats tonight and realized during my last round I had 1.4 strokes gained on 150-174 yards, and 0.9 from 175-199. Data is showing that I'm giving myself scoring opportunities from these distances. I did some data research and it is showing that if I can get to the 150 marker off the tee, this would be my best chance at a GIR, which will produce more looks at birdie. This will be something to follow going forward.

This is such great anecdotal evidence of how clubs fit exactly to your specs can help maximize performance on the course. I can’t wait to get back out and start collecting data with the X5

Giving off @amarkabove vibes tonight with the photos.

I was telling someone today that I don’t like the tinker. That’s not true, I added the Ai150 4-iron to my bag since the Grandaddy. Other than that, I won’t tinker. I’m headed to the Bag Boy championship in about a month, and I wanted to be as consistent as possible. I don’t think there’s a reason to f**k with consistency. After years, I finally found the magic unicorn iron to keep my ball flight down, but still generate enough spin to make balls stop.

Such damn good looking irons!!!

This was a weird day at the sim. The hitting mat in this bay was just changed and the overhead sensor was not recalibrated so a lot of numbers were messed up and it really messed with my head. I don't know if I can trust this ball flight because I didn't get a path, face, or clubhead speed. But the carry was about 15 yards shorter than the 7i, so that seemed fine.

Dang these are fun irons. The heavier shafts are giving me confidence to go after it.

Did some work yesterday on the range for the first time in a few weeks. Tight dispersion and good distance. Wind was wild so I saw a little higher ball flight with range balls than my regular Chrome Tour. Something I noticed at the top of my iron set between 4 and 5 iron is the distances aren't separating themselves enough to justify keeping the 4 iron in the bag at the moment so I'll move back to the UT, but the 5 iron is still seeing 10 yards farther than my previous set. I'm sitting around 185 with my 5-iron.

Still loving these and looking forward to a good season as the weather warms up.

How well are you guys getting along with the set wedges?

I really love mine. Feel is great, distance control is very predictable, spin is consistent.

I am in a weird funk with irons right now. I think I need to get outside and thankfully will be this Friday for the first time.

Getting way into the heel and at times hosel and getting too steep on the downswing. I know I’ll come out of it, but it’s incredibly annoying as I am currently hitting woods the best I have ever hit them.
