Callaway Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X, and Chrome Soft Golf Balls

Chrome Tour - I just can’t say enough about how good these golf balls are. Callaway really invested heavily in this space and it shows!

I think it’s the best golf ball that Callaway has ever made and I love seeing more and more folks play them in rounds

For me they sit in the sweet spot of firm enough to get really good performance and soft enough to feel really good off the tee and from the fairway

So I posted this in the ERC soft thread but wanted to throw it in here to get some opinion. I am currently ChromeTourX because I need to get launch and spin off my irons. I played it all of last year and outside of getting used to a firmer ball seems to check the boxes and fits. I had a conversation with a friend about how many balls we go through and whether we should look at cheaper alternatives.

Enter the ERC soft. What should it do compared to X?
I got a limited number of swings with these last week and was taken aback by what it did. Launch up, peak height up, descent angle up and spin up a few hundred rpm.
Maybe this is exactly what these are supposed to do and I am an idiot.

@Wonger interesting little study you're doing here, but it's making my head hurt. I think you may be broken.

If you're looking to reduce spin on irons, CTX wouldn't be an ideal ball for you (high spin construction)(launch makes sense tho).

Compared to CTX, ERC will feel different of course (CTX is firm, ERC is medium-firm). Additionally, ERC should fly higher, so if looking to lower launch keep that in mind. Lastly, ERC will spin less than CTX, so if looking for lower spin that checks out.

Just based on the few sentences in your post, I'd recommend trying the CT Triple Diamond (CTX speed and feel, lower spin properties) or even CT.

And I'd really recommend buying all the limited edition golf balls, but that goes without saying.

Thank you for this. If you were mapping the ERC Soft, which of the Chrome lineup would you map it to between Chromesoft/CT/CTX /CTDDD? Or totally different animal.

Still waiting for those LE CT TD releases….

used some credit I had so two dozen of these are coming to Texas

Oh boy. Broken is the story of my life, guess we’re piling on 🤣

So I launch irons low with little spin. I started playing CTX last year which helped in both departments. All good there.

Started exploring with ERC out of curiosity and the trackman I tried it out on was showing increased spin/launch and descent angle. I am suspicious about the spin numbers I got. I think you just confirmed that it should spin less but with higher launch.

I am going to have some good direct comparison numbers after tonight. Will revisit this.

So just to clarify, I am low spin and need spin on the approach game, not trying to lower spin.

And, just waiting on those Happy Gilmore LE stuff to drop!!!!

Think we’re gonna come to a final decision between chrome tour and TD tomorrow. I’ll share thoughts after I play!

Well one thing that got cleared up is spin. I put the metallic dots on both CTX and ERC so it would hopefully get good readings on trackman. It worked. The italic estimated spin numbers were gone.

Here’s what we got.
Driver. This is pretty much a wash. Ball speed, distance straight up even. ERC spun a couple hundred rpm less but nothing dramatic. I actually had a few strikes that spun up on the CTx upping the spin higher than I normally see.

7i. The ERC launched about 2° higher but spun about 1200 rpm less leading to 7 more yards distance. 6 feet higher peak height with same descent angle.

PW. ERC launched 1.5° higher but again spun about 1200 rpm less. Scosh more distance with similar height and descent angle.

So is the loss of spin on the irons with the ERC going to have a measurable impact? Open to any thoughts/opinions on what you see.

Interesting. How does this compare to the CT if you’ve done similar testing for that?

With the decent being the same, I'm betting you'd notice quite a difference. Definitely green dependent too. But I'm glad we got the spin figured out in the very least. That was shocking originally lol

Based on the data I would go CTX all day. Its not like you or I are ripping wedges off the green.

Have not done testing with the CT, it is supposed to be lower spinning than the CTX right?

Spin just seems too low to me with the ERC.

Yeah the spin number is what threw me for a loop. Seems much more logical now.

But there was the one time….
Nah that didn’t even happen the one time. I need that increased spin of the CTX
👍💪

I think I have landed on my gamer ball in this family…as I started going through trying almost every ball on the market I realized something when putting with them - I really was digging triple track. I had tried the line on a ball before but wasn’t the best at hitting my line I wanted, but when I started playing around with these I found myself being spot on with the alignment and thus giving me a better chance of makes

This quickly put me into the Callaway family and I knew it was gonna be CT, CTX or CTTD.

I’ve fallen victim to myself in the past by letting the launch monitor take too much of the decision making and not seeing my flight outside. I play at a windy golf course and have never factored it much into my ball decision.

My hope was that CT or CTTD would still provide the iron play and short game control I wanted but would only help with battling wind

I have leaned into the CT the most coming into playing 9 holes today because I love the feel. Yes it may be too soft for some but I love the feedback especially on iron shots.

The chrome tour showed why I think it’ll be my ball today. I was still able to maintain iron control both into and downwind with stopping power, but I noticed even in some crosswind situations the flight just felt straighter to me. Still good height off the irons and I definitely saw some help of kicking a little spin off the driver

Triple track also continues to be a shining star for me. It’s good roll feedback for me and my putts were really tracking even if they didn’t fall today

Excited to keep working with the CT and provide more feedback

Had a $10 reward at GG that I needed to use up, so snagged a few loose Chrome Tours on the way out after my fitting to try when I can finally get outside. Planned gamer for this season is the Maxfli Tour, but I also just remembered I have $37 in credit at GlobalGolf from last year with some club purchases, so going to put that towards a dozen Chrome Tours. The question is do I go regular TruTrack or USA TruTrack?

Definitely curious to see what you find! The ball selector online fit me into the CT.

I’d go regular trutrack. I think it does its alignment job better

Order is in. You’re good at helping me spend money this week Muchy 🤣

Should have them by 4/13 but based on previous orders through GlobalGolf I’m sure @ScoFoBG and Co will have them to me ASAP 🔥
