Callaway Elyte Fairway Woods

How did you get along with the Tensei Blue vs what you have in the Max?
I hit the blue quite well as I used my TSR 3 FW off the tee a lot. Subtle fade. AI Smoke Max FW with the black shaft almost feels like extra stiff sometimes. A fellow THPer did mention privately pga SS tends to be really helpful in letting you test clubs so I’m sort of thinking about that. I was on my driver alot last year as I was hitting the Smoke really well but traditionally I hit a better 3 wood then driver even as a fairway finder so 3 wood has been primary club off the tee alot in years prior to last year.

I want to order one of these but I'm worried about it going too far and too close to my driver. I'm wondering if I'm better off going to 5 wood if it really plays like a 3 wood? I have an 18* T200 utility so just worried about having two clubs with the same loft.

Sounds like the Tensei Blue is a good fit for you. If you want to try something different, I think the Denali Blue has been pretty well liked in here. I am using it in my 3w.

I would absolutely go test them if you can.

I have a comfortable distance between my driver and Elyte TD 3w. I think the decision for 3 vs 5 would be dependent on your what you hit best. I have seen a 5w go just as far and with more consistency than a 3w. If you are high swing speed player, then I would expect you would expect to see the benefit of a 3w. If you are mid to slower then I would learn towards a 5w or maybe the high lofted 3w.

Ordered the Elyte Ti 3 Wood with Denali Black shaft. Hope the Denali works out because I ordered it without getting to hit the Denali, but I hit the Denali quite a bit when getting fit for the driver, but it fell just short of what I was looking for. I think it may be a good 3 wood shaft though.

This club just surprises the hell out of me. I still can't believe I have a 3w in the bag and that I use it. It's not even the least used club in my bag, which is another huge surprise.

I took a shot from light rough yesterday that needed to carry a mid-height tree on a par 5 and got the ball up over it. The fact I even attempted that shot says a lot about my confidence with the club.

The other thing I've used it for quite a bit is a longer punch shot. Something when I need the ball to go a solid distance, but keep it under some obstacle. I can move it left or right with that shot too, which is very useful.

The 3W and 7W are starting to shine for me. Early season I was playing in windy conditions, and I couldn’t control these high launchers so well in those conditions. Not anymore. The last 5 rounds these have been outstanding.

No big benders - just gentle fades with each.

While they are higher launching, they are still penetrating to get some good distance.

What else can I say about the Elyte Triple Diamond? I've put the 7w in the bag and it's been an incredible addition for an option off the tee and obviously great off the deck. The 3w is a beast. I absolutely smoke a 3w off the deck on Sunday that went too far, but that's okay because it was a riot to watch it fly that far.

About to order an Elyte TI but have a question. On the specs, it’s stated as a d5 swing weight with the tensei black 75. I want to order the 3HL -1/2” short to make it like a true 4W. There’s no spot to make notes so do you think they’ll put heavier weights in to keep it d5 or just leave it as is and it’ll come out to whatever?

I would call Callaway directly to place the order. I believe they could put notes on the order for you.

Going to get fit for the top of my bag this Friday (driver and fairway clubs). We'll see how the Elyte stacks up.

I was custom fit for a TaylorMade R15 driver and Callaway Rogue several years ago. Four years ago, I went to a fitting where we looked at driver. At that point, nothing out there was better. This will be a brand-agnostic fitting too. I suspect I can buy some improvement with the fairway club given all the technology they have been adding to those clubs. On driver, we’ll see. I’m good at hitting the sweet spot, so the improvements in forgiveness may not translate to my game.

In any case, the Elyte will need to earn its way, because everything is available to the fitter and I’m putting no constraints on him.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I had my fitting yesterday and we tried out a bunch of clubs, shafts, and setting combinations. I want to emphasize, I was brand-agnostically custom-fit for every club in my bag, so everything was optimized when I got my current gamers. Also, these were custom fittings for me. Your results could and in many cases should vary.

GOLFER PROFILE
I am age 68, 5' 9" tall, and 160 pounds. In good shape and health for an old guy. I am all about performance. Couldn't care less about what the club looks like. I hit a high percentage of fairways, average 80-85% FIR. If I bombed it 300+ yards, those numbers would be lower, but those days are long gone! I like to shape shots on command, so the ability to do so with these clubs is a priority for me. I hit the sweet spot. An average smash factor with my driver is 1.45-1.50. Fairway metal is 1.42-1.46. My typical miss when it happens is a pull.

I typically score in the 70s with occasional rounds in the 60s. I shot my age for the first time last year--twice.

BOTTOM LINE RESULTS
In a 3W, if I had to buy a new one, the winner would have been the Callaway Elyte Denali charcoal. However, my gamer (8-year-old custom Callaway Rogue) has a tighter dispersion, and while the Elyte averaged 3-5 more yards, that's just not enough to justify a change. So, the Callaway Rogue stays in the bag. Various combinations of Callaway, Cobra, Ping, TaylorMade, and Titleist clubs were in the hunt.

For the driver, I had a fitting 5 years ago when the R15 with a custom shaft was getting a little long in the teeth. That fitting showed it was still the optimal driver for me. So, I didn't know if the answer would be different this time around. It was. The Ping G440 Max with the Tour Chrome shaft gave me enough improvement to pull the trigger. You could still throw a blanket over both when it came to distance, but I got a tighter dispersion over my gamer in three critical situations. When I strike it well. In the wind. My gamer is spinny enough that it's susceptible to the wind. Finally, using the Fade setting my pulls are half as far off centerline versus my gamer. I did try multiple combinations of Elyte driver products. The Elyte X Denali Charcoal 50 5.5 gave me a little more distance (5 yards), but the dispersion was way too much for me. We tried the Callaway Elyte Ventus TR Blue using the fade setting to see if we could decrease the dispersion to that of the Ping. That helped the dispersion, but not to the level of the G440, and it was 5 yards shorter.

So, the Ping G440 with the Tour Chrome shaft is on its way.
As I said a week and a half ago, if I had to buy a new 3W, it would have been the Callaway Elyte Denali charcoal. However, for me, it couldn't unseat my 8-year-old Callaway Rogue, and today was a reminder why.

My one bad drive today was on a par 5. Plenty long but pulled right, and I found myself right of a tree line. There was an opening between two trees about 100 yards out, but it would require me to hit a controlled slice (I play lefthanded) through that opening to get it back to the fairway. No hesitation. I know I can do that with my fairway metal and did, landing in the fairway just 60 yards from the pin. Isn't that what we all want? Clubs in our bag that we have that much confidence in pulling off shots like that?

I when Ti 5W and lifted it to 17. It out kicks my 19 UW and can get it out there. Way better off the deck than the 3W HL it replaced. Probably just as far more often too.

My 3W & 7W got a lot of use this week both from the tee and the fairway. These things continue to impress me. The good shots were obviously long and straight, but I hit some not so good shots that had no business finding the fairway let alone still having length as well.

I get so excited when I get to use them. I’m still shocked at the distances I see with each.

With the arrival of my Elyte 4h, I turned my Ti 5w back down to 18° from 20° and pulled my GT2 3 wood out of the bag. 5 months ago you’d have never convinced me I wouldn’t have the GT2 fairways in my bag, but here I sit.

Hit two balls with it at 18°. Both carried 235 on MLM2 Pro, off the deck. Absurd. Once the Ai Smoke Mini arrives I very well may move it back to 20°, but I just continue to be so impressed with this club.

Playing 18 tomorrow morning and really excited to hit it, in addition to the 4h

very interested to see what you get out of the comparison. I know you really enjoyed the tuned up 5w so wondering how the 4h will play for you.

Was very impressed in a limited sample size on the range yesterday. Have a 6:30am tee time so will be getting it into play right away today!

I think I have the Elyte 3W thing lofted up 2 degrees. Whatever setting @ddec was using when I first tried it is what I put it at.

Used it a few times yesterday and all but one was a success. Shots included a layup on a par 5 that set up a GIR on a hole I don't make many pars on, center of the green on a long par 3 into the wind, and faded punch shot from the right rough that gave me a great chance to get up and down.

This is a fun golf club to have in the bag.

Put myself behind a tree yesterday on a par 5. I still had about 300 to the green. I need to shape it left to right a bit, kinda play my natural slice to keep it inbound. Too far left is dead.

Pulled the Elyte 3W Hit it solid and it did exactly what I wanted it to do. 240-ish yards, leaving a little wedge into the green.

Sometimes driver fails me and I gotta wonder why I don't pull the 3 wood more during the round.

It’s absolutely mind blowing what they’ve done to the playability of a fairway wood for people

I hit their Titanium 3 wood on the range last week and it‘s a fantastic fit for me especially off the tee which normally happens 4-6 times each round. I‘ll dial in which shaft and get one ordered soon. FWIW, my 3 wood has been in my bag since 2014 so it would be a big deal if I finally found a worthy replacement.

The Ti is….just so so so good.

Second hole in the scramble yesterday. Long par 5. We had 260 to the hole. Our beast shot was my partner that hit DOD to about 20 yards short. I pulled the Elyte Ti 3 wood, and absolutely striped it. My buddy just said “jeezus f*** ch*****, You destroyed that” while it was still in the air. It bounced and rolled onto the front edge of the green for an eagle look (which we missed).

This club is stupid long when you hit it flush. I have never had a fairway that would go 225, let alone 250 off the deck. So this is a new weapon in my bag, and I kind of like it.

I never pulled 7wood yesterday, so still don’t know what I will end up with in the 5w/7w/4hyb territory after 3wood. It may be course dependent.

I cannot overstate how good these fairways are. I hope you all know me as a straight shooter on feedback by now. These fairways are for real. I will say when something is not right or not better. That is not the case here. These are superb, and will really have a tough time getting beat in the future.

This 3w continues to deliver. I needed it a few times today and it cleaned up some bad strikes. These step sole make turfs contact so easy and helps maximize distances.

Off the tee it’s a weapon. Just a nice penetrating ball flight that ends up in the 240-245 range

I let @Redd take a swing on 18 with it and I almost didn’t get it back lol

I hit the best 3w shot of my life today. The 1st hole is a par 5 that always gives me fits. After hitting the best drive in a long time (Thanks TDTD) I was left with about 265 to the pin. I had a clean flat fairway lie so I pulled the Elyte Ti 3w and gave it a rip. I have never come close to sniffing this green in two. I was this close today.

Was able to start my round with a birdie.

I also hit a half swing punch shot with the Ti 3w a few holes later and got nearly 165 yards under all the trees in my way. This club breaks my brain a bit.
