Callaway Elyte Hybrids

Gave the Elyte X 4H with the newly installed UST Mamiya Pro Force V2 its first run yesterday on the sim. Pleased with what I saw. 175-180+ carry on good strikes and then some roll out, though who knows what that will equate to on the course. I was pretty happy with my ability to get the face square at impact.

Still haven't reshafted the Max Fast yet, but I did try to dial in some numbers on it. I'm coming to believe it's going to function as a direct 6 iron replacement. It really doesn't go that far for me at all. That's not a bad thing, but it's worth mentioning. I think I'm going to go ahead and do the reshaft this weekend.

My Max Fast 5 hybrid is definitely in the 6-iron replacement camp. It goes high, and is about 15 yards shorter than my Elyte X 5 hybrid.

To be honest I'm not all in with it as I thought I would be. It is not in the bag at this time. I don't have a great reason to be fair, but it's a super shallow club. My misses with it have been far on the toe and I have hit under the ball far too much with it. The 6-iron won't kill me with that swing as bad. So I'm playing defense in that bag spot right now, not offense. I need to work on that and give the Max Fast some more time I think.

Building up my bag for the next couple of weeks of traveling, the Elyte 4 is an auto lock at this point.
Seeing 195-205 consistently, launch similar to what I see out of most and peak height right around 92 yards on average. Super happy with all of that.

Where i am consistently seeing the benefit of these is the toe side miss. I have mine set at standard, but I know a lot of people go flat here. That toe side miss forever was either a push because at impact the face opens or the dreaded overcorrect with the pull hook. I see neither of those and have 500 shots with this club at this point. Im not sure if its me or the equipment but it has to be the most consistent hybrid I have hit to date.

It's an interesting club for sure and I feel like I've got to get my head in the right place.

I've literally envisioned and pondered this exact thing for a couple seasons now. For whatever reason, my stupid brain feels like it should go farther, but the reality is I could really benefit from a direct 6 iron replacement. I hit both yesterday to compare and had quite a few more good shots with the Max Fast. I think, at least for now, I'll keep both in the bag. I do like the 6 iron for low shots that pop up in a round.

This spot is the area of the bag that causes concern for me now. I don't have a great answer yet. The 170 yard shot.

Maybe I should just swing relaxed with it, and see what the Max Fast will do. I think I am trying to swing too hard with it most of the time, and coming across the line with it and hitting the toe.

I would not have this issue if the Elyte X came in a 6H for me. It would be in the bag.

I definitely have a tendency to over swing this club due to its size and shape.

500 shots is a great sample size (y)

Yeah I have mine set to flat and the heavy weight in the toe. That side miss is still unreal forgiveness and hardly ever overdraws or pushes on me. I lose a bit but it’s still a much much better result than what that type of shot would have produced with my last club in that slot

Not to make you jealous, but the Elye X 6h does this job very well. Slightly shorter club for me but I think gapping-wise we are looking for that same slot in the bag with the club above and below.

Hopefully, they add that SKU for you at some point.

I think I'll be fine with the max fast if I just let it do the work. I have only tried to mash it out there 185 yards so far, and it doesn't like that. I think this club was designed to get up in the air, and get there quickly, and let height do it's thing for carry distance.

I just love the bag appeal of the hybrid and how it setups behind the ball. Something about that chevron alignment is so easy for me to get right.

3h is doing it's job pretty well. Launches pretty easy and is forgiving for the types of shots where getting it pretty close is pretty good. Shot Scope numbers aren't amazing, but looking back at other oversized 3h's I've had in the bag, they seem to work well for me, so I expect that to turn around. 5h still a little big and goes a little high for the bag slot, but the SG numbers are a little better than I expected, so I'm going to continue to try to get to a good spot with it.

I know you’re not adverse to carrying a hybrid into middle of bag considering you level. Curious if it is just this style of hybrid that goes a bit high for you? If it was more like the old apex line would you have gone further into any with it.

Yes you’re correct I’ve bagged a 6h and dabbled with a 7h in the past. I would say it’s partly the particular characteristics of the head and partly the shape.

I’ve played oversized hybrids in this slot like the OG Cobra King Tec 5h and a 23* Apex UW. The 6h I played previously was the Cobra LTDx, which is a little more compact but not small I would say. All of those I felt like are were lower launching and spinning than the Elyte line, at least at the time I was hitting them. I’ve compared the 23* UW to it this year and certainly found that to be the case.

Size wise this is a little longer heel toe than I’d prefer from this slot. My rough measurements are that the 23* UW I have is about 5mm shorter heel to toe, which seems to work better for me for approach shots which is what this club sees. The 3h I feel like I use and swing a little more like a fairway wood so the size doesn’t bother me so much, and the launch and spin putting it in a good window for that slot. I’ve actually played a couple rounds going 3W-3h-23* UW-5i. That’s kind of an unorthodox visual progression but as far as the windows they hit it works pretty well.

I played 2 UWs in these slots last year, but the year before that I played a couple TEE C723 hybrids which I really liked. I’ve also had a few Adams 9031s over the years.

I don’t know if another OEM would go as small as the TEE, but an Apex hybrid with the new adapter and other tech that was kind of swimming in the waters of the TEE C series and new King Tec would be something I’d be really interested in.

@Joshnoble01 forgive my ignorance of past Callaway hybrids. Looks like a new version of the OG Apex/Apex Pro world be right up my alley

Tip was installed on the ProForce V2 for the Max Fast. I'm going all in on the 6 iron replacement.

Love this. I may have just been inspired to pull the Max Fast hybrid out of the backup bag for some testing. Maybe tonight.

@Golfgirlguru hit some great hybrids this Spring. The ball speed retention low and off the toe are pretty impressive. She reworked her gapping and went from a Paradym 3H to a Elyte 4H and she is getting similar carry numbers

There ya go!

I added a tiny bit of tape to get the swing weight up to match my other hybrids. Definitely will be approaching how I use it differently going forward. I think I was just trying to get too much out of it.

So I spent a lot of time tonight on the sim with the Elyte Max Fast 5hybrid. The loft on it is weird, and matches up more of a 6-iron loft. At first I was all over the place with it like last time I tried it. Lots of toe sky shots or simply hitting under it and popping it up. Then moved it around in my stance until,I found a comfortable spot, then was striping it down the middle. I put 5 in a row on top of each other around 175 yards. Then I had it, two dreaded flyers in a row that went over 190. At least I was hitting it usable distances again, and straight.

so then fired up TPC Louisiana and played two rounds, with the purpose to hit the Max Fast 5H for anything in the 160-180 range. It worked out very well. I wasn’t trying to overswing it and had consistent 165 carry to stop around 170-175. I wasn’t great but shot 88-86 for the night. Just had too many drops for OB balls when I wasn’t paying attention to where the OB line was. I need to be better about that as I had 3 of them over two rounds that I could have easily hit away from to keep them in play.

i think the hybrid will stay in play and its putting the 6-iron at risk right now. The Max Fast hybrids work better with a relaxed swing for me.

Loving the 4 and 5 hybrids right now, hit a large bucket at range yesterday and in flattest setting, nice and high and straight or with a fade.

I bought the 3 hybrid also to try, haven’t been able in past to keep that club in bag, bunches up on 4 hybrid distance. Oh well, didnt work out, same issue so I sent it back and bought a 4 wood for gapping. My speed isn’t high enough to get the 3 hybrid in air.

I'm not getting bomber distance with the 3h. I am getting bomber height. I rather like that.

I was at the range this morning Working on keeping a pause at the top. At the end of the session I pulled the Elyte 5H. I was pounding it!

The high ball flight is so welcoming to me. A big park as to why I find the club to be so forgiving. High little draws. That GO!

Played a course today from 6700 that brought several opportunities to hit the hybrid. On all but one of those swings, the 3H performed absolutely stellar. Multiple opportunities from the fairway and rough, and the 3H did exactly what I was hoping for and then some. Distance that I wasn’t expecting and an ease of hitting that I can definitely get used to.

Taking me some getting use to, and letting the club do the work but getting some confidence here that I wasn’t expecting candidly.
