Callaway Elyte Hybrids

Elyte hybrid was a star for me this weekend. There's a certain hole on my course that is very drivable for me but if I don't hit my line, it's also a double or triple waiting to happen. I have always toyed with the idea of taking hybrid off this hole giving me an iron in (which has been a big strength for me this season) instead of trying to drive and having who knows what kind of lie if I miss.

Well besides performing in other areas that I'm used to it doing well in, I went hybrid off the tee both times and made par each time. The first time it was a bit tougher than I would have liked, but it was par either way. The second one put me in a perfect spot and my approach was a full swing 55* (I hit the hell out of the hybrid, it should normally be a PW or 9i). Ended up eight feet for birdie and just missed it. Super easy par though.

My last three times on that hole before the weekend were double, triple, double. So while the hybrid isn't what got me on the green, it put me in play so I could get there much easier. New shot for the hybrid moving forward. I'm not mad about having this club in my hands as much as possible since it's as point and shoot as you can be from that type of distance.

That’s awesome to hear!!! I tried that play over the weekend myself. I unfortunately double crossed it and while the staring line for the fade was great the flight path was not so great at all! I know it wasn’t the club at all but that shot made me say to myself and that club, “your days are numbered.” I’m heading out after work to see the Elyte 4h and a particular shaft at Golf Galaxy and it’s tax free here in OH until the 14th so many things lining up for the Elyte to make an appearance!

The adjustments you can make to these heads make it so you can completely take out one side of the course if that's your miss. On top of the adjustments, the speed and forgiveness they offer is pretty freaking sweet. I've said it many times that this is my first hybrid that I've played, but what an entrance to this world. I'd have trouble going to any other hybrid as of right now

So what a difference two days make.

i took my Elyte X 4&5 hybrids, my UW, and my Elyte X driver to the garage sim this evening. With the intention to figure out what I was doing wrong in my round Sunday. Short warmup with 9 iron and 5 iron then hit the Elyte X 4 hybrid. First swing 210 carry slight right draw. Ok, cool. Then next swing was 214 carry, 220 total, down the middle. Then over and over again 207-215 carry with baby draw. 10 shots then stopped. I could not mishit the thing.

ok, put that away as my bad shots Sunday must have been due to the rough. Then pick up the Elyte X 5 hybrid and give it a go. First swing 200 yards with a fairly easy feeling swing. Hit 5 more that were between 190-205 and put that away as well.

I don’t know the difference but I couldn’t miss with these on the sim tonight. I truly was looking for bad data and to need to find something in my setup, ball position, anything, There was nothing to see. The dang things just flat out perform.

i don’t know what more i could want out of them to be honest. Does anybody see any metric on those that isn’t spot on? I think I just need to keep playing them and trust them. After years of hating hybrids I think I still default back to that mode from time to time.

I cant say I had the same experience in 10 swings with the UW. It went fine, just severely directionally challenged. Missed both ways.

Elyte hybrid was rocking again today, this time back at my home course. Its on the shorter side and narrow, so I hit hybrid on 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 17, 18. Some of those I would hit driver if into the wind and a couple others I'd hit a wood. I probably could have hit driver on the par 5 7th, drivable par 4 8th, and 10th, but otherwise those may be new hybrid holes. Perfect distance and much more repeatable ball flight (baby draw) than my 5 or 7w.

On 6, a short and narrow par 4, I gripped down to hit a little knockdown and got this stinger that went 184. Perfect and gave me a wedge in. Loving this club!

I'm tron on keeping my Elyte X hybrid I have to demo. The stock Denali shaft is definitely giving me better dispersion than my Ping G425 in the Alta shaft but I don't feel like I hit it as far and they might not gap well enough with my JPX 5 iron and G440 4W. I probably just need to keep searching instead of trying to convince myself this is the right one for me.

I don’t have an opportunity to hit these before buying how’s the stock stuff charcoal shaft?

I use VENTUS tr blue in driver, and like the feel was thinking of doing the upgraded ventus blue + hybrid shaft but not sure if it’s necessary

The Elyte hybrid continues to be incredibly steady and reliable for me since putting it in the bag. I subbed in men's league this week on Monday and only had the opportunity to hit it once, but I couldn't have drawn the shot up better.

Par 4 14th, one of the most difficult holes on the course as it is a dogleg left requiring a very precise tee shot into a small landing area. Trouble left and long, right is the bail out and adds a lot of length to your second shot. I hit a beautiful fade and had just under 150 to the middle. Led to my second par of the year on that hole and had what I'd consider a makeable putt for birdie that I just missed.

I'm playing the 4h and 5h with the stock stiff charcoal shafts and put them in play without hitting before buying. I simply made the commitment to go with hybrids and pull the 4i and 5i out of my bag. My irons are shafted with the Elevate 115 stiff shafts and I can honestly say I had/have no concern with the shaft, though I was very concerned with switching to hybrids.

For a few rounds I was hesitant to pull the hybrids and was opting to power through with my 6i. I'm over that now. When the distance dictates I no longer hesitate to pull the hybrids.

Performance for me; I naturally hit a draw, and for years my miss has been a duck-hook, and I can really duck-hook a long iron. These hybrids don't hook for me. I'm still setting up for a draw with them and I keep hitting them straight, consistently missing my target on the right side with the correct distance. My biggest adjustment is committing to taking dead-aim. Don't get me wrong, I love that I'm hitting these hybrids straight, setting up for a straight shot is just something foreign for me.

I went with a custom order and put in a Tensei AV Raw White. I have however played the denali charcoal in an Ai Smoke mini driver, and it is a good shaft. Definitely a different feel at least for me than a Ventus TR Blue. More active in the handle IMO

Thanks for the reply! I play a fade and have heard these are fairly fade bias for a hybrid. Did you go core or x model

I'm playing the X, you can see what I play if you have signatures turned on in your THP profile.

I went all-in on the Elyte woods this year. I'm using the stock charcoal stiff shafts in all of them even though my shaft of choice for a few years has been the higher launching Project X Reds. From my understanding, from reading early posts this year about the charcoal shafts, is that they're basically a Blue profile, essentially a mid-launching profile.

Well I have news. I parted ways with the 3 wood that was not my friend today. I hit the 7W and the 4H and while they were both good the 4H won the day! Now to wait on the mail!!!!

Dude you weren’t kidding about it being a rocket launcher. On my intentionally slow swings around 93-95 I was seeing 210 carries and rollout of 230! When I put a jump on it swing on it I saw 225 carries!!! That was with the stock Denali shaft that I spent some time learning how to time up. Can’t wait for the Tensei AV White to get here with this thing!!!

People may think the discussion I’ve had about these is just me loving Callaway, but everything I’ve seen is just unreal with the entire line this year when it comes to distance. Distance is king in all these releases in my opinion and, my god, it’s insane

Yeah it’s incredible! It is neutral fade naturally for me but I can turn it over and draw it as well. That’s without making any adjustments to the cog which I am going to fiddle with a bit. I did hit the 7w but don’t like it as much. It had some pop but was the best fit. It could’ve been the shaft as it was a used in but it wasn’t the same as the 4h

The Elyte 7W was very shaft dependent for me. When you find the right setup it will show you. It is hot. Hotter than my 4 hybrid easily when I need it to be.

So I open the UPS app today and was greeted with this!

Looking like I’ll have a new weapon for the weekend!

Correction I will have a new weapon tomorrow. It will have to wait until Thursday for some swings as we have a full plate with an 8th grade football scrimmage tomorrow night. @Muchmore expect to hear how it goes with the Tensei AV White in it!

Can’t wait!! It’s a beast!

3 Hybrid actually got some work last evening during the two man scramble for our league. I have not hit the 3hy much this year off the deck just due to a change in my course management strategy and unless I tank a drive, this is a distance that I don't often find myself at.

Last evening on a par 5, we had 240 to the pin for our second shot. Generally speaking I'm hitting a AW/PW to give myself a 100 yard shot into the green, but since we were scrambling last night and my partner was already about 5 feet off the green pin high, I figured why not give it a whirl. I hit one that came out hot and low, never getting more than probably 40 feet off the ground and ended up taking an extremely bad bounce off the lip of the bunker near the green and settled about 20 feet over the green. Had that been a shot I needed to hit on my own, I'd have been extremely happy with getting that close on a 2nd shot into a par 5- as that's just not my game.

I mention all of this merely to say that there is some confidence building in these types of shots, and it may open up avenues for me to actually entertain going for it in certain situations where I may have previously just laid up to a number. That's not something I'm used to, nor is it something that I really anticipated while at ECPC going through the fitting. I knew I wanted to give a hybrid a test again, but was more looking at it as an off the tee option vs a hit it from the course.

I hit a 4 hybrid yesterday from 185 that was playing 205 to 12 feet on a tough approach and it might have been the best hybrid swing I have ever had. Not because of the result, that was fine. Because in the moment knowing, long, left, right or short were all trouble

Nice to see a new option pop up that was not expected or envisioned.

Being as the hybrid gets play primarily as a tee option, do you actually tee up the ball when hitting with the hybrid? I'm in experiment mode, as I don't know that i've ever teed up a ball for a hybrid hit. On the tee box I've always hit off the turf, but have been wondering what the majority do. I could see use of a short tee here.

I like to tee it up like a fairway if I'm hitting my hybrid from the tee. I've never really thought to hit it from the grass. I guess I like the idea that it might help me just a bit more but on a few holes that the shot needed from the tee was too short for driver or 5 wood for me the hybrid off the tee came in quite handy. I generally grab a broken tee someone has left around the box and use that then toss it for them.
