Callaway Elyte Irons

Is the X a replacement for the Big Bertha irons?
Not really. X fills that void that last years lineup didn't really have. HL for those that need launch, X for those who need a bit of help with everything, but have some speed.

As a low spin iron player the HL could be the ticket. Love that they redid the sole of the irons. Can't wait to give these a spin.

FOUR head options. Absolutely awesome.

Getting out WAY ahead of the naysayers on it, having a large variety of heads to support every golfer is incredible.

How does the Elyte iron compare to the Apex Ai 200/300 in terms of forgiveness and look/feel?

Also, still before jumping into the article..

I am so completely fond of how much these remind me of Epic Forged. LOVED that iron, and love to see a bit of that head live on.

These are the best looking in line irons they’ve ever done. Wow
I immediately thought of these when I saw them on the home page

These irons look like they would be perfect for people who are sweepers as well as those that take a larger divot. Looks very versatile!

Also can we take a minute and appreciate the price point? $899 is stupid for these irons and all the tech that is packed into these.

just a microsphere factory going on in these heads.

GREAT question
For me personally- I found more forgiveness in the Elyte and like the way they look to my eye far more than the Apex lines.

Feel is the only area where I'd give a slight nod to the Apex, but that could be because I didn't hit the 200/300's well.

Right? It's insane to me.

Thank you.

Next question: do you know if the spin and launch are similar to the Ai Smoke?

It is interesting that the price is now for 6 irons too.

awesome article, Deano.

It's really great to see Callaway take this release seriously, and present options for many types of golfers.

*i did not hit the Elyte* but I looked at them, heard them, and watched a few guys hit them.

The sole width is comparable to the 200 and not at all as wide as I expected. The X is a little wider. Sound is a soft click. Somewhere between a Paradym and a Smoke iron but clicker than either Apex.

These irons aren’t for me but holy smokes do these look good

Thank you.

I'm going from memory here as I only hit the Smoke's on a PGA SS launch monitor but if I recall they are comparable. @Dougie will be able to answer that a bit better than I can as he came from the Smoke's prior to the Grandaddy.

You might think so. But I bet @ddec can show you a side by side or two next to Ai-200 that would shock you.
We saw similar when Paradym was released, and people made the assumption of larger oversize iron and it was quite small.

Went into the fitting with a preconceived build already in mind. Had been to several Callaway events here locally to try and get an idea of what to seek out. Nobody really had any graphite options in the weight class I wanted, but all had said the same thing. I get it as that class is not normally a standard "Can I hit this combo" request.

Club fitting was last on my series of stations and had the opportunity to meet Alexis. I explained my journey to this day and what I wanted to try. She was pleased (I think), but since that wasn't an option to hit I figured we should just try and fit off best miss. Little did I know I would need all of that forgiveness in the next few days and still wouldn't be enough:rolleyes:. That's all me and those who know me have seen it time and time again, I'm not a competitive golfer at this point and it just freaks me out🥹. Really solidified I need to get into local competitive events to help with this. She said she could actually tell I was nervous so we were on our way.

I still wanted to try the TiF's in the same shafts I had been hitting up until this point and after a couple mishaps, I figured we should stop. I've usually played CB or similar for many years and only entered the GI iron this past year. So why not continue with the new and shiny and go even lighter in graphite. We went over what specs I've been fit for in the past and what she was seeing. Here is what is now in the bag!

Upon return home the temperature was higher than normal and in the mid to upper 50's, sometimes getting into the 60's. I was so excited to hit these that I didn't care about extra layers. I wanted to see what they could do when back to my normal golf. Crazy how that works, but these came alive.
