Callaway Opus SP Wedges

Extremely wet conditions, yesterday, and today At Hidden Cove Golf Course in Grayson, KY. The wedges had no problems with the soft conditions. 54/10, 58/06T are my stock wedges. No issues and had plenty of spin as well.
Any shanks?

Played a practice round today, still having trouble with confidence in the X grind right now. It's crazy that I was playing it so well at first and now I'm falling flat with it. I keep getting low, like extremely low, spinners that just keep running. That or the shot is a completely nothing-burger in terms of distance. So weird that in practice, wedges are perfectly fine, but on the course, can't hit them right now. I think the W grind would have been a life-saver in cases like this when I could use the forgiveness just a little bit.

Set the club up with the leading flat to the ground and lean the shaft forward. Ball in middle of stance. See if that helps. I had to play with the setup on the 54 because it was different than my previous wedges

My instructor gave me a drill to line the ball up on my back foot with wedges and accelerate through the ball. It really helped. Hard to explain here but my ball striking with wedges improved dramatically.

I really don't want to think too much about it since it's sim golf, but the amount of check I was seeing on chips and pitches with the 60x had two of the guys I was playing with (who are regular playing partners for me) say out loud multiple times "how did you get that to check, you don't spin the ball" lolol

By the time I put these in play outside at the end of the year, we had punched and sanded our greens so while I was seeing some really good greenside reaction, I didn't put any stock in it with the greens being the way they were. Seeing what I saw on the sim as well as their reactions, has me with optimistically high expectations going in to next season with not just the 60, but the 50 and 55 as well

Don’t be surprised if that’s what you see. My 60 behaves like a 70 vs my 54 (bent to 55). I have to really attack with the 60 to get the distance around the green as it just goes so high and spins so much it almost never rolls forward

So these wedges..
My 60° came in this week and I was able to play it for the 1st time today.

2 times I had shots from 90-100 yards that dropped within 8 feet of the pin.

These just keep getting better and better!

Edit: they were 12’ from the pin not 8’ sorry lol I had to confirm with shot scope.

Btw 12’ from 100 yards away looks really really close 🤣

I’m in love with these wedges. They’re easily the best I’ve ever tried.

Now chipping with a 60° may take some time getting used to. I left a few pretty short but once I’ve got that figured out I’m going to really love having different options from around the green.

W. Give me all the bounce in the sand and for chipping. No digging. Ever

My wedge guy is gonna make some adjustments today so they should be set. He was looking at my old wedge fitting and pointed out a few tweaks based on my strikes I was seeing. Lie angle stuff. The weather is looking maybe optimistic next week to get them out there.

X grind played well for me this morning, some advice on how to play it from @K.P. helped me figure out better club alignment for the grind, I appreciate that brother 👊🏽

Left a couple short, but that's just getting used to the set up still. They really do spin more so it is a different landing area I have to hit. The 52 S was used twice from between 80-90 yards and both landed nicely in the middle of the green.

Pretty solid day i'd say, best wedge day since the Hideaway for sure. Still need to practice more with the X grind and I did use my SM10 58 for the one time I was in the bunker on the first hole, besides that, the X was good to go.

You're hitting the 60* 100 yards?! I must really suck at delivering the club lol

I’m really liking the W grind for both sand and chipping. I don’t open up the face when I chip so I didn’t need a grind that is intended for those types of shots.

Ha I know that I’ve never seen a ball get up to its peak as quickly as those 2 shots.
I thought for sure they’d be really long then they just dropped right out of the sky. Was really fun to see, it has me really excited to get them on the driving range and really get a better feel for what I can expect from them.

That's awesome. I can't even hit my 56* 100 yards lol but my 52* gets me there and that works well enough!

For some reason my iron swing gets the ball pretty far down range.. my driver swing is bit behind in that regard.

W is a cheat code out of sand. I'll sing it's praises any time anyone asks this question. Chipping, they all can be beneficial. What you need to know is if you want to manipulate the face or not when you get closer to the green. That will change what grind will work best for those shots. X is pretty spectacular though

The W is so good out of the sand. Truly not sure there is a better grind for that. The S grind on my 52 in limited use was solid for chipping with a square face. If you want to be able to manipulate the face a bit more, other grinds may be better. I pretty much am always chipping with a square face so the S will be great for me in that regard.
