Callaway Opus SP Wedges

X grind played well for me this morning, some advice on how to play it from @K.P. helped me figure out better club alignment for the grind, I appreciate that brother 👊🏽

Left a couple short, but that's just getting used to the set up still. They really do spin more so it is a different landing area I have to hit. The 52 S was used twice from between 80-90 yards and both landed nicely in the middle of the green.

Pretty solid day i'd say, best wedge day since the Hideaway for sure. Still need to practice more with the X grind and I did use my SM10 58 for the one time I was in the bunker on the first hole, besides that, the X was good to go.
Are you opening it up more or just setting up differently to get the results you’re seeing with the X?

I opened it up a tad bit more, but playing it very neutral in my stance and remembering to keep the heel of the club down through the shot. Definitely feels better than previous days.

The 52 S is soooooooo money. I freaking love it.

lol I know just feels like I should be able hit it further 🤣
That I totally get. I would kill for 250... good thing all the new wedges are here to help.

I can blade a 60º 100 yard easily.
I mean if we are factoring that into the equation I might be able to hit a 60 all the way to Rochester. :ROFLMAO:

Weight more on your left side at set up?

Yes sir. I was already leaning left but I made it a point to get a little more in front.

Nice pitch in today with the 60 degree wedge. Spin is great when I need it but taking spin off and letting the ball release to the hole works just as well. I have a little bit of struggle deciding when one to pull. I think I lean more towards the 54 getting more use throughout the season but time will tell.

Did hit a 60 degree into a green at 90 yards to watch it spin backwards about 10 feet. Not sure how to manage that haha

My wedge guy is gonna make some adjustments today so they should be set. He was looking at my old wedge fitting and pointed out a few tweaks based on my strikes I was seeing. Lie angle stuff. The weather is looking maybe optimistic next week to get them out there.
Adjustments are done. He thought one in particular needed some changes. But wedges should be set! Haven’t had new wedges since 2023 with my jaws and before that 2022 with my T22.

Chipped in with the 56 today from out of some thick stuff after missing the green (again).
I was shocked I was still able to generate some spin out of the thicker rough.

I just hit one of the best short sided bunker shots I’ve ever hit. Thoughts later.

Some good shots with these in the sim today for what its worth. I just hit a couple of real balls at home to get a different feel for them and verify what I seen in the sim. Very good thru the thick stuff and some really harsh lies. I look forward to seeing how these progress during the season

Here is the shot I was referring to, hit a fat pull into the bunker. There is no room to this back pin , I opened the 58° C grind and throw it up to 3 feet. This wedge is better than the Opus that they replaced.

Damn. That'll do nicely.

Nice!

Got out again today and still loving everything about these wedges.
Chipping with a 60 on a tight lie will take some getting used to for me but I still had a few that were really good.
Where I’m still just in awe is full or 3/4 shots. I’m finding a lot of success throwing them really high or flighting them down, both with minimal roll out just hit and stick.

Rained all day today! Early round tomorrow, likely cart path only. Let’s see how these bad boys perform!

Got out with my new wedges for a 12 hole. First couple of holes I sort of overkilled as I was getting the distances down but definitely settled in as I got into the round I was hitting really good shots from 100 yards and in as well as around the green. The 50 and 58 particularly shined in approaches and some shots around d the green from the rough including a flop ish type shot over a bunker from 20 yards. These wedges seem really easy to hit and the spin is wild. Hit the green 10 ft left of the pin on an approach and it spun to the other side of the hole to 10 ft and clearly scared spinning back into the hole. I think a few more rounds I’ll have a lot of confidence. Interestingly I have the same shaft as my former wedges but I definitely have increased in distance based on usual swings.

Because why not? Hello 60 degrees!
