Callaway Opus SP Wedges

I had some those wedge shots from that 65-75 yards distance today. The Opus SP 54° S really shined in that area.

Starting to get the partial yardage shots dialed, and that increases confidence.

What’s everyone’s favorite grind for sand and what’s your favorite for chipping
I like my X out of the sand. And the S most everywhere else.

This is so good I’m quoting it twice.

I absolutely need to dabble in some paint fill this winter. WOW.
The ironic thing here is it's by far my best looking wedge and I got it as pretty much a bunker exclusive option.

I am staring at the photos currently. I am obsessing.

That makes it even better. Whip that bad boy out when you know you're about to splash one within 3 feet of the pin right in front of the people.

Let them know you're the big fish

I do too! The black on black looks ok but any other color seems to really pop on these.
I need to get to work on mine!

Well it's time to move on from the Nike wedges. I love them deeply but the end of their time is near for consistent on course action.

Found a 54 and 60 Opus SP wedge in the grinds and color I wanted on 2nd swing and pulled the trigger

which grinds did you end up going with ?

How does the black shadow finish hold up over time? Any one have any comments on how it is after bunker play, rain, anything like that?

Yesterday, all 3 of the wedges played well. The 58 X had one shot in particular on a par 3 where I tee'd off with my 7i and pulled it left. Needed to get it up to get over the hill onto the green, which I did and landed within 5 feet for a par putt.
The 55 X had a nice low runner that I placed on the fringe so it could roll up closer to the pin on the hole immediately following the previous shot I mentioned.
And the 52 S landed me pin high on approach on the 7th hole from 82 yards out.

All 3 are coming around but I am still weary of the bunkers and think a W grind is totally viable as a replacement soon.

On the 54* I went 10S

60* I went 6T
Have you had a chance to hit the 6T yet? I love low bounce wedges but sometimes they can be scary to hit

I have not. Bit of a blind buy based on my preference and typical home course conditions

You're going to love the S grind. Such a fun wedge to play around with.

I'm excited for them both and excited to see what the ball flight is like on the 54 compared to my nike wedge.

Feel off the face is very nice. Not the softest wedge every but the ball stays down on launch and goes forward

Not specifically SP, but I had the Black Opus last year and it had slight wear, but it held up incredibly well. I used the Black SP for the last few weeks of the season and it still looks close to brand new. It's a black wedge, it's going to wear. But the lack of glare (and the looks) very much outweigh any wear issues there might be.

I will say though, I've only had the black on wedges that I don't use in the sand, so I can't help specifically on that part. I'm a lefty and the club I'd use in the sand isn't offered in a black finish ever or else I would though.

I’m really getting comfortable, with these wedges on less than full swings and think that I can hit the several different yardages I need from less than 100 yards in.

This yardage always gives me fits, but here I pulled it off no problem. I had 3 birdies last round and this wedge is playing a role in better scoring.

I'm pretty set in my ways with wedges and wedge grinds. Or so I thought. In the last year, I've adjusted lofts a bit when it came to the Opus but I stuck with what grinds I knew (S, W, Z).

This year, I adjusted lofts again, though only on one wedge going all the way down to 50*, and I went with a grind I'd never used before (from Z to X in the 60* slot). Being honest, with how well I knew and loved the Z grind, I almost didn't upgrade to the SP because the Z wasn't offered. I knew what it did, I knew what I could do with it, and I loved it. I had read all the love for the X though and because I trust the people here, I dove in and grabbed an X to replace my Z.

So far...so good. I just made another post in a different thread about how I'm done giving up forgiveness when it's presented to me. The X, still allows me to do almost everything I did with the Z, but adds a bit of forgiveness in touchy lies with the increased bounce.

Having three brand new wedges to attack greens and pins this year (I keep saying next year lol), is something I'm very much looking forward to. I do have a question though. Has anyone changed up their grinds they "know" for something new this year, or have you kept with what's worked?

Has anyone gone from the C grind to the T grind, what did you see?
