Callaway Opus SP Wedges

Having not hit these for a few weeks I used some time left at the end of my GolfTec lesson yesterday to put some swings on my 54° S and I really can't believe how good they are at spinning and stopping the ball! Pitch shots, 3/4, and full swings the ball just hits and skips forward a bit then sits! I am really getting antsy to get these on grass again to hit into greens! I dreaded the 80 and in shot the last few years, but the more I hit these and let the grind and club do their job the more I'm sold on them. Hitting a 105 yard shot with the 54 and it stopped at 106, yeah I'll take that all freaking day! Spin was HIGH on that swing like 9900 if I'm remembering right.

Looking forward to getting out in some warmer conditions this weekend. I’ve been gone for 3 days traveling for work and I need some outside time.

I spin the 56 degree SP so freaking much it is insane.
Yesterday off some damp turf, still getting over 8k spin on partial swings and comparing it to another wedge, it was 600 rpms more.

Is that with the new ball? If not, it's gonna be more Lol

My short game shots are checking up so well that I need to adjust my landing spot.

It was with a Pro V1 at the course, as that is what they had, but the new Chrome Tour spins so well, it might be even more.

The ability to get aggressive with this is going to help me a lot.

Anyone hit both these and RTZ and could offer a comparison? Thinking of making the move to 52/58 but want a higher bounce 52 (Cleveland Mid 52 looks to play at more bounce than stated).

Also how do the C grind and Platinum Z compare in a LW? Anybody hit either of these plus the RTZ ADAPT as well?

A full swing 60 degree today generated 13,000rpm backspin. I done it for fun to check distance. Wasn't expecting the number to be so high

ground was wet and soggy today so kinda limited swings in the yard. I expect my distance control to improve this year with my wedges. Standard shots the ball stays flatter. This allows me the confidence to swing thru with face open for a little more height that won't get away from me.

That’s the only “problem” I’ve had with these so far. I am learning that I need to fly these a little closer to the hole than a used to. That said it’s really not hard with the 50° to hit a bump and run still.
I’ve enjoyed these so much and it’s only February lol

I am still blown away at how good these are from the bunkers. Hole 7 is a par 5 and I hit my second shot into a greenside bunker. Up and down for birdie. It just gets through the sand so good.

I have. Let me start with i am not loyal to any particular brand. I liked them both but feel the Tour Rack version looks a little better. Performance was about the same

Can you compare it to anything you have used in the past from a feel and spin stand point?

My previous wedges were SM9s. Feel wise, I’d say a little softer than those were. Spin wise I’m definitely seeing more spin around the greens with chips and bunker shots by a wide margin, but my old wedges were 1.5 years old.

From bunkers I previously had shots where the wedge would bounce off the sand rather than cut through at times. I’ve not experienced that at all with these and I honestly cannot say I’ve walked away frustrated from a greenside bunker shot yet.

I like the versatility of the X grind. It allows for the face to be opened up without "looking funny." It has been solid from bunkers and hasn't created any issues shifting from a wide sole design

At my lesson last week, we did a lie angle check and determined they were too upright for me. The pro took them home so he can bend them flat and bring them back to the next lesson. I think he’s playing with them while in possession 🤣. I miss them.

Mud ball chipping in the back yard before work. Having no issue with carry distance control to target. Excited to see how many times I can chip in with these this weekend

More later but oh my word do I love these wedges!

Got some practice in this afternoon on the launch monitor.
Decided to end the session with the 50° Opus SP. Boy are these things nearly automatic! I hit green after green after green. Finally decided to end on the best of the bunch:

They don’t get too high and stop on a dime! Just so stinking good!

The 58x is excellent from the sand. Tons of bounce and doesn't dig. I didn't carry a lob wedge previous to this. I had two different 56° sand wedges. A Cleveland RTX6 and a CBX4.

The Opus SP 58x sits right in between the two. Lots of relief for open faced shots but enough bounce not to dig. I don't hit full shots as easy as the CBX4, but that's not why I got this wedge.

I'm having some great success on the sim with approach shots that are slightly inside of my normal distances. Having a 95 yard shot means I can launch a full 60° and let the ball back up. 110 is an aggressive 54° that will back up. I'm getting close to having to "manage spin" with these.

You know...good player shít.

I knew I should’ve fixed this low spot before hitting wedges today…

Been having a ton of fun hitting these at the range lately. Excited to get these on grass this year.

Seeing a good ball flight and even saw some backspin on range balls landing in the grass. Really love the lower ball flight these offer as well.
