Callaway Opus SP Wedges

Going to tee it up tomorrow and looking to see how my chipping is tomorrow. Ideally I won’t miss any greens but that won’t happen.

1 chip in today, 2 times lipped out, 2 good chips out of greenside bunkers, and a lot of really solid chips today. These Opus SP W grind wedges are just nasty in the best way possible.
I was able to flight chips low and get a ton of bite, or flight them a bit higher for a soft landing. Just so much fun on a day where very few greens were hit in regulation.

lol that was my plan for today.. I might have hit 2 greens today lol

I actually hit a bunch of greens today. Really not a lot to add here today as most of the misses were just barely off on the fringe and I was able to just putt the ball.

I am only off mats, but the 52° S grind is quickly becoming a favorite club. Sim round today and it was just showing off.

It is automatic, and I mean absolutely AUTOMATIC, from 100 yards. The ball flies straight as an arrow at the intended target. I had 3 balls finish within 7’ from 90-100 yards out.

Also had a bunch of 20-30 yard chips from missed greens and put it within a 10 foot circle on all except one shot.

If I can replicate that once I get outside, I am going to be a very happy camper.

I don’t know what you see on spin, but I noted I was still spinning 9800 rpm’s with the 52 degree original Opus this morning, on a 100 yard full swing shot.

9300-9700! So good

Rough day with the Opus Sps, I did not have the time to practice before the round with them and I was leaving everything just short of the green. Cost me a stroke on almost every hole and was a round killer. Problem is, I wasn't hitting them bad so it ever felt off. Just short. Won't be able to get out for the week, so a little disappointed I won't get to practice them.

Just ordered a 54s and 60x grind today

still trying to decide whether to get a 50 sp or get a matching AI150 AW

Anyone have thoughts on the SP 50 vs a matching AW from your iron set?

I’ve personally leaned towards more forgiveness with the set AW since it’s used for more full shots anyway.

I’ve tried going with a wedge outside of the set before in this slot and I struggled more. That said, it was years ago and my view is based on bag setup, not the performance of the Opus SP.

Yeah I am thinking I will go with the set AW in the AI150's seems like the smarter thing to do

One of my favorite things to do on the sim is to find a good short shot into a green and just practice.

I set the ball 70 yards away from the target, perfectly odd yardage. Grabbed the 54.14°W and went to work.

Not every shot was perfect, but darn it, the good ones were REALLY good.

Limited golf work this week for me so far but got these out in the grass today. A little wet but it makes me excited to hit my target with the flight I want. Hitting towards a small towel and the landings were very close. Hopefully I can keep this up on course

I really like the 58 W out of the greenside bunkers myself. I need to fine tune the yardage with it so it becomes more of a weapon outside that usage

Jumping in a little late here but love the looks of these. Anything that can produce more, and more consistent spin, has my attention.

Man once I figure out how to control distance out of a bunker this is going to be such a weapon that I’ve never had!
I can now at least reliably get out of the sand and be putting which is new for me.

I need the W in my hands man. Soon, before the end of the year for sureeeee.

Course practice is the best. I love setting up a range on a course.

Do you hit the same shot at the flag? Or hit different trajectories?

My bunker shots are a coin flip. That's my fault. But they are fun with the confidence is there. The X grind does a great job.

Man I found so many green side bunkers at The Hideaway and that 58X got me out every single time. With that thing in the bag I’ve got confidence that I didn’t have before.

I tried different trajectories. Drive on in low. Come in high and long. Different options. The reality is I really want to have one solid option and only use the creativity if I'm in contention on Sunday at The Masters.

Looking back at my last round, my 58 (bent to 57) is reliable from 50 yards and in and is a club I fall back on in bunkers constantly. I love the weight of this wedge.

I'm rooting for you.

When practicing I’ll often try different trajectories. But on the course I’m more often trying to hit it lower and be more in control. These wedges are great at that. I’m really liking the X grind for half swings but that’s off mats. The real test will be on grass around here(a bit different than ECPC and Hideaway grass)
