Callaway Opus SP Wedges

The other question, how far were you trying to hit those wedges?
Right around 90 yards. I will say the distance for the Engage is being brougt down by one really short carry that I should remove.

Which if I remove it we get the following

Really interesting that spin is the same. The launch being higher by a 1* but being almost 10ft shorter in apex is also curious.

Was finally able to test the Opus SP and the Engage Wedge on a launch monitor outside off grass. These are both 54 wedges and I felt like I was taking the same swing with them, but hard to be 100% sure.

If you were trying to hit it 90 yards, seems like there was only one winner.

Its really wet and muddy today. Hit some shots outside and this really isn't about ball flight.

The X grind. Versatility with bounce as its described by Callaway. The description fits. 12 degree bounce with toe and heel relief that is easy to put in play. The sole never feels that it is going to get "stuck"

Yeh I mean I think just on feels alone the Opus was winning

I should add too they both have the exact same shaft and grip

I'm very happy with how well my Opus Sp's work on full swings. My 54S and 58X get the ball up quickly and feel clean through contact. Distances are consistent too. Loving them.

It has now been 5 rounds since I replaced my Opus wedges for the Opus SP, I can say that they are definitely an upgrade.

I especially like the lower ball flight v. The Opus.
Who else has switched from the Opus to the Opus SP?

Coming from Cleveland CBX's to these is a difference in feel and performance. But the extra spin is a welcome addition and the Opus SP's feedback is excellent. You can tell where you hit on the face and the feel isn't harsh at all.

Anyone else have a jump to these from different wedges?

I think that's been the difference for me and improving my flighting is turf interaction with the X.

With my old Vokey S grind, I wasn't confident going through softer conditions, and more often than not I'd hit a fat shot. With the X, my confidence level has gone up tremendously in the 40-75 range. That used to terrify me.

I won't even think about the SP+ yet, because I love the weight of the standard SP.

I agree on the 40-75 yard shots. They don’t bother me now.

I had the Opus last year. Based off of the two outdoor rounds I have had with the SPs, there's definitely a more aggressive spinny flight.

Had a really fun day with wedges this morning, did some gapping on trackman and hit a bunch of chips around the practice green. Best I've felt with a wedge in my hand in forever. When I wanted to open up and get it high, I could. When I wanted to put it back and keep it low, just as good. Really felt like I had control of the flight and spin.

I love the 54X grind. I love it so much that it may be the only wedge I carry my next round just for the sake of not getting along with the 60x at the present time. I don't use it often anyways so a 1 wedge system may work. The 54x hits target pretty well and is more user friendly for how I like to play around the greens.

Will keep working the 60 but confidence isn't great. The 54 I give an A+

spent an hour this evening (the extra hour of daylight) hitting pitches and chips in the yard. I think I've came to a good spot with the 60 x grind again. Not sure what happened but when I'm able to strike it as intended the ability to control distance and target is excellent.

Another day of practice and more inconsistency from myself leading to frustration. Not sure why or what is happening. The feel off the face is very nice. It is slightly firmer than the Cleveland RTZ I gamed last season but its not a huge difference. The spin seems to be way more. Not sure if its a bounce and grind issue or just the idiot trying to use the club.

I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT. My lie angle is to high. I am going to have these bent 2 degrees week. I sprayed my club head down with foot spray and hit a couple of shots on dirt. I'm just digging in the heel/hosel really hard. THIS EXPLAINS HAVING TO OPEN THE FACE.

I have no clue why it changed or what happened but I at least know how to fix it.

Hit balls off of a tight pure dirt lie today and was really close to landing in the 5 gallon bucket from 10 steps and 20 steps.

I know how much you’ve been struggling with these lately so this is a wonderful update. I imagine making that adjustment will do wonders.

I was playing great with them and as an internet golfer the first thought "try something different" so I changed my swing.. I don't need to do that. I just need to change the specs. $500 saved from not being a moron.

I do have to say that will likely add a W to the bag to test in that 60 degree range. I want to know how much different it will play

I love this! It’s a great feeling when things start going your way, well done!

feels good knowing I adapted when I got it but have settled back in. I can't wait to see what the spins gonna be now. 14k on a 60 degree full swing. Its meaningless really but I want 15k.

I thought the Opus were great, but they have absolutely improved with the SP version.

The trajectory is much more aggressive with the SPs. It's really nice to see that spin and know it's okay to be aggressive

That’s a lot of spin! I imagine the ball always rips back towards you on full shots?

It is ok to be aggressive with these, which is why I’m surprised the + model is coming out. With the SP’s I’ve been able to flight shots better than I have with any wedges to date.

That's crazy! I'm happy hitting 11,000 on my 58.
