Callaway’s approach to iron design has increasingly centered on data, testing, and real-world impact patterns. By leveraging AI-driven face design and refined construction techniques, the company has continued to push game-improvement performance beyond simple distance gains. The Quantum irons are the latest example of that approach. Instead of designing around perfect strikes, Callaway built Quantum […]

I thought last year the Elyte irons were the best looking Callaway GI irons in a long time.

Quantum blows them out of the water. Just like the driver, I love the OG Callaway scripting on everything this year.

Great article, @Hawk !

It looks like they have thinned out the top line and snuck even more weight down to the bottom. I like the cleaner look of the elyte better, but I will bet these are one of the best GI irons released this year because Callaway always seems to get that category right with their main line.

Really great idea to introduce tri-sole for these irons! They look stellar - great job Callaway!
Elytes had tri-sole as well, but based on the images, it looks like they made it a bit more aggressive and increased the trailing edge relief. It would be great to see a side-by-side comparison of these with the elyes to see how much they changed it.

Apologies, should have clarified- a much more aggressive tri-sole. To me, the Elyte was much less noticeable.

These came really close to getting into my bag at the Grandaddy. Couple of things swayed me... the Ti face in the Fusions. I also know that I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I WOULD PAY FOR THESE. I LIKELY WOULDNT PAY $2100 OUT OF POCKET for the Ti so I was greedy ;):)

A few of the guys ended up with these. I can see how they won the fitting. During warm ups I was casually hitting every metric I would want with a 7 iron.

Soft feeling face.
Nice impact conditions with feel/sound
Flight was high. 7 iron swings with minimal effort were giving me upper 160 yards with 110 feet.
Tri-Sole is obvious on these. I came over from V-sole in Srixon. For my swing these felt better getting the toe through the ground allowing release

3 options with the combo sets coming back for hybrids is a really big deal. The hybrids are great as well

Were these cleaner through the turf for you than the Apex?

These reminded me of a faster, more forgiving version of the older 2004 type Big Bertha irons. If you like them... you must try these

I agree I hope someone posts some side-by-side picks at some point, as I think if I walk into Golf Warehouse with my Elytes to take pictures, they might think I am weird

These will be slightly larger from what I recall

Nice write up @Hawk The quantum irons look really nice. The Tri sole should definitely help turf interaction. Love that the focus is on the areas where most golfers miss as I know that i'm not hitting the sweet spot very often, but use the whole face. I also love that they have a HL spec available in these, as a person who struggles with spin on my irons the HL spec really should help.

I’ll probably be in the minority but looks wise these are a step back from the Elyte irons. Not my category of irons per se but I know they are for a lot and glad they offer them. Callaway truly has an iron category for everyone.

Heck the Ai Smoke had tri sole.

It just wasn't advertised as such. The images are marketing, the Elyte sole was nowhere that shape in real life. Like you said, a 3D scan or a side by side would really show it.

Not saying it doesn't work, the sole interaction was reported by many to be an improvement year to year but for me it was a small change.

That shadowing on Elyte? didn't exist lol. It was more subtle.

Let's see how V shape this year really is :p

Can anyone confirm a big visual sole change with personal experience?

Hmm trying not to be a cynic but the custom loft HL spec, I didn't see anything written in the article about it.

Did Callaway go the Mizuno wedge route and offer different lofts via bending? Would be great if we could confirm whether they casted different lofts or they're bending them weak via custom order.

My biggest guess is the undercut allows them to position vertical / horizontal COG even more low and rearwards.

Which aligns with your comment. Those Big Bertha, older Callaway irons were designed with an emphasis on low COG, more rearward COG and a long blade length.

Could help a lot of people with flight, combining legacy designs in a modern technology package. Love seeing that.

No idea about how they are achieving it, but from the Callaway website HL spec are available in all 3 heads:

Loving the look and story of these. A great looking iron that has Apex vibes to it.

What configuration did you end up in?
Max with Recoil Dart in a light weight as furthering my experiment.
Effortless distance. Unique sound, that is going to be polarizing, but I kind of like it.

Where I have seen a start improvement is with the ground interaction. Unlike most of the amazing ballstrikers on the internet, there are a lot of times I am ground first contact. Combine that with being steep and you get some loss of speed with a lot of clubs. Im not seeing that drastic loss here, on the turf, based on ball speed data, which confirms to me the sole is working pretty well both not digging nor skipping into the ball.

I will have more coming up, as I test with a myriad of irons, but so far, I like what I am seeing out of an iron that I think will help a number of golfers.

Well this looks familiar.

Honestly, I prefer the cleaner look of the AI Smoke (at least initially). The tech story with these is very very compelling, I just would rather have more of a player's iron look, I think the coloring of the badging might be what is throwing me off.

However, no one sees the back at address. For the Grandaddy crew, how did these perform compared to previous gamers?

I didn't say this before today but at my fitting these were in second place being the Ti Fusion.

I could game this iron. I liked it better than the Ai150. Its weird for me but I really enjoyed my time with these.

Out of pocket these irons may be the best deal on the market.
