Callaway Quantum Irons: A Smarter Take on Forgiveness and Speed

Honestly, I prefer the cleaner look of the AI Smoke (at least initially). The tech story with these is very very compelling, I just would rather have more of a player's iron look, I think the coloring of the badging might be what is throwing me off.

However, no one sees the back at address. For the Grandaddy crew, how did these perform compared to previous gamers?
I played the Elyte quite a bit last year and have played these for a handful of rounds including the Hideaway.
They are pretty different irons. I know that is easy to just type out and kind of a cop out answer, but it is where my head is. Elyte is a bit smaller, and I find these laterally to be about as forgiving as I have tried.

The area I see the greatest improvement is the low strike on the face. Its not often I get much initial launch out of that strike, but on the range with the Quad, it is showing out. Other than that, the sole still seems like a pretty decent change for me personally as a steeper golfer.

I think as you mentioned in the AMA, for sure THPers gravitate to a smaller profile (perhaps smaller than they should play). The commitment that Callaway has to building really really attractive and effective GI/SGI irons has been such a great joy to see over time. These could be very special for those players

This iron is the exact reason the statement under my name exist. "Offset doesn't make you miss left" My fitter showed me the differences in launch.

I mean that less in an overall size and more in the dimensions of pieces broken down, such as the sole.

The shaping of these is really spectacular in my opinion. And everyone I saw hitting them in California was just launching the ball effortlessly it seemed. Going to be a very good option for many many golfers.

Whew these babies are slim. I know some might find it looking alittle busy but it’s pretty clean. I’ll definitely give these guys a demo when I’m in the pga ss. Along with the other Quantum stuff 😅

Good morning folks, I literally just woke up so as I gather my bearings, I did see someone ask about the sole while reading through so here is the 7i. More than willing to jump in, let me just grab a coffee 😀

I’ll probably be in the minority but looks wise these are a step back from the Elyte irons. Not my category of irons per se but I know they are for a lot and glad they offer them. Callaway truly has an iron category for everyone.
I'm with you on the looks. They look better than others, but I prefer the Elytes. I'm ready to hear @Michael.Sandoval33 's take

man what a trip down memory lane looking at these. Remind me of the 96 Bertha irons that were my first ever clubs

I think that it is well documented on the forums that iron play is my weak spot in the bag. At the Grandaddy I went in intent on leaving with whatever fit best for my game and that was easily the Quantum Max irons at the fitting. Fast off the face, I'm mean really fast, and shots were flying in a much more piercing fashion than my previous gamers.

Since I've only played the Quantum Max irons at the Grandaddy and my ball striking was off out there, I really can't come to any conclusion. I know all of the potential is packed in this club, but nothing is going to fix your swing for you. So I'll be getting them out on the course immediately (rounds scheduled for today and Sunday) in an environment with a lot less pressure than the GD.

Was fit into the Quantum Max as I told my fitter I love forgiveness. We tried the OS first but they were a little too big. He actually said the regular Max in the Quantum line is more comparable to the Elyte X I was playing. I was hitting the Max pretty well with the same Elevate 95 shafts that I was playing but we started talking about graphite shafts. He put a Denali Frost in the Max head just for me to try. I started to absolutely flush that 7i. Shot after shot. Fitter said "guess you are a graphite guy now."

Here is a shot from this morning w/ my 7i for you number guys...

I think some of these get inflated by the RSG Nova launch monitor but it is definitely a club longer than my previous Elyte X.

Edit: This was w/ the 2026 Chrome Soft in case you are curious.

They were going for a bit of nostalgia with the 360° undercut and I really like the looks, it's so good in person. At the fitting, I did notice that the ball gets up quick with a really nice launch angle. I think the weighting has a lot to do with that. My gamers were HL and I would often find that I was getting too much height and not enough distance. When I was hitting the Quantum Max Irons well at the fitting, it was right in the sweet spot that I wanted in height with more distance there.

Great article btw @Hawk . The thing that sticks out to me is this quote from Zack Oakley...

“Our testing shows golfers miss the center of the face more than 80 percent of the time,” Oakley said. “If an iron doesn’t perform in those areas, it’s not really built for reality.”

I am epitome of this and these are so forgiving. Per my notes Callaway said that the difference between center of the face contact and low on the toe was 4mph ball speed. With the Quantum line/face it is down to 2mph (less than a club distance wise).

I hope that you continue to enjoy these new irons. I hope the irons with the graphite shafts continue to deliver great performance for you.

Does anyone know if they go with a lighter build for the HL spec or is it just a shaping thing?

Interesting, I missed that part on low, but perfectly matches up with what I said above.
That low miss does me in typically.

If anyone wants any more proof... here is me on #6 on Dye first day. Think it was playing around 160. Check out the wind w/ that flag. Ball never left the stick. Ball mark was basically next to hole. Was my 7i...

If I remember correctly, the HL spec is a higher lofted version each club in the bag. The Quantum Max Fast being the lightest option available.

It was at the round table we did... I think you were in other room. They were gracious enough to answer some questions for me since I missed Day 1.

I am pumped for this season. I will let you hit anything you want my friend when we next play.

I probably play a smaller iron than I should. I have a harder time turning over bigger irons and can’t adjust to the different shot shape. That and I need more launch and spin. Just looking at these irons in person I don’t see anything offensive, it’s the opposite really. They’re a good looking iron in person. I’ve been wanting to hit them since I saw the demos arrive. Between the Elyte last year and the Quantum this year Callaway has put out some very visually appealing GI irons.

Quantum Max looks awesome
