Callaway XHot Hybrid - Forum Testing Review

Excellent info. I can't wait to actually try these. Since I'll likely have 3 wedges, I'll probably just have the 4H and leave the 3 out of the bag.

That's a cool looking sole. I never noticed it I guess when I hit the club.

Great initial review, I can't wait to see how forgiving and long you guys find the X Hot to be.

It should be interesting, dude. From what I have read, the Xhot hybrid is the star of the xhot series, but with all the buzz on the driver and fairways it has been overlooked a bit.

Being someone that has had the same hybrid in the bag since 2006, I can tell you that it's going to have to impress me to stay in, as hybrids have come and gone for me and nothing has seemed to stick.

I found the xhp 18* to be one of the easiest to swing. The ball gets up quicker than any I have swung. For someone that its it low, I would think these would be right your alley.

I like hearing that. I don't know much about the shaft, so will do some reading up on it, but if it launches it high for me we could have a winner!

What is the shaft and weight in the XHP Freddie?

Nice work so far fellas. This is a great little club.

Horrible day at the range.

Woah! Phil, what happened?

oh man Phil, thats stinks buddy

I really hope that is an April fool prank.

Yes, just photopaint. April Fool's.

Dammit that's actually obviously photoshopped

Well played Phil.

Well, since JB started a thread titled April Fool's, how could I resist.

Alrighty, and so it begins!

Just got home from a long day of work and class and had a box from Callaway sitting in our breezeway. Ran upstairs and promptly opened this bad boy up. Photos will be below.

I want to add that I had a chance to hit this hybrid at Golf Galaxy once I found out I was selected for testing. All I'm going to say about it is wow. This is easily the best hybrid I've ever hit. I was hitting the ball about 230 yards at my longest on the simulator and was loving the low spin and high launch I was getting from it. This was a big switch from my Adams hybrid, as I always had trouble hitting it high and keeping it straight. This club also LOOKS damn sexy. I love the dark grey crown.

Here's some hybrid porn for all of you that haven't already seen the photos earlier in the thread:

There are a few things I REALLY like about this hybrid. The first is the look of this club at address. The club just looks easy to hit for me. The old Adams hybrid I had seemed smaller. I hit my fairway woods really well, and I think because this club head is a bit bigger, it allows me to hit it the same way. The second is the shaft. This shaft felt great every time I swung the club. It really is a great pair for the head on this one, and Callaway nailed the combo perfectly (at least for me!). The final is, of all things, the head cover. I love the simplicity of it. This seems like a minor detail, but in a world where head covers seem to keep increasing in size for every club, this is a much welcome change.

I'll definitely be free to answer questions for anyone and everyone based on my 100 or so swings on the empty simulator at GG, but the real test will come when I can get this club outdoors, either to a range or to the course. Unfortunately that probably won't be until the weekend due to school demands starting to pile up as it's the end of the year. I'll definitely be sure to get as many cracks in with this bad boy as I can whenever possible, though.

I also want to say that this is the first Callaway club I've EVER had in my bag, so if any of you had previous premonitions to avoid Callaway Golf like I did, you NEED to give this club a swing.

And finally, a big thank you goes out to JB, GolferGal, the rest of THP, and Callaway Golf for letting all 6 of us test this beauty of a club.

Good initial thoughts Darren, what is your current hybrid gamer? Just want to get and ideal what you will be stacking this bad boy up against.

Looking forward to reading all of your reviews guys.

I had an Adams IDEA Pro a12 in the bag prior to this. Hooked the ever living crap out of it and couldn't hit it in the air. Drastic change from that to this X-Hot.
