Cleveland 588 Altitude Hybrid Irons Preview

Is the magic mostly in the clubhead with these? What profile of graphite shaft would be a good replacement?

I tried the Tudes with both the stock steel and stock Graphite. For me given I play -1/2" clubs the steel fit my length better As they come 1/4" shorter than the graphites do. But I found the steels to feel better too with a nice kick and feel at impact. They are my favorite steel shaft felt I've ever tried.
I should be playing Graphite as I only hit a 7i around 145 but the steels work well for me.

The magic is certainly in the head, I have the graphite shaft in the Senior flex at -1" as I'm only 5'8"and they are a long club the 5 iron is 38.75", I find them great I wouldn't swap them for anything.

Have my 3-DW in the garage, don't think I'll ever sell them.

Love my Mizunos, but sometimes I ponder playing with the 'tudes. They've been collecting dust for about 2 years. #sad

I was playing mine with a set of Recoils in them, and absolutely loved the combination.

Still holding onto my 4 - DW set, but maybe I should be getting rid of them to help encourage the switch to my new irons.

I bought a set for my wife for all the reasons listed above. She loves them. I love them because they minimize her frustration and increase her happiness, which makes playing together more enjoyable.

Is the ladies version the same head and just a lighter shaft?

I'm not sure but I think so

They are the same head except they have pretty pink writing on them with a ladies flex shaft.

Is there still good gapping between 6i-5-4-3?

Yeah the gapping is just like normal Irons 10 meters between each club for me I hit the 6 iron 140 meters and the 3 iron 170 meters

Most likely, these are A flex. If I like I will be looking for an R flex set or reshafting.

Mine are A flex I have a driver swing speed of mid 80's although they are light they seem to play stiffer than you would think.

I hit a few of these today and they are great as is. High and straight, nice feel. The A flex plays like an R flex so will just leave them in. Ball flight is high with a touch of draw.

They are a very under rated shaft and head they have an almost cult following on here. I have a combo set of MT/TT's 5-S also every time I put them in the bag they don't stay there long and the Altitudes go back in, I just score better with the Altitudes. The MT/TT set are my backup, friend set LOL.

Just got a set, but have only been able to hit them off mats so far. Do you guys recommend sweeping them or hitting down on them like a traditional iron?

Thanks in advance.

I play the 6-SW. From 7-SW I play them middle (7i) to slightly back in my stance (wedges) and hit down on them.
The 6i I am sort of caught in between. The head is pretty large so I usually play it a little forward of center stance and usually pick it clean. I've tried playing it back in the stance and hitting down but the shaft length is kinda long for me and feels awkward.

Played first round in about 2 years with altitudes for fun this morning.

Glad I've kept them around. Fun to hit for sure.

Highlights were a few punch 9 irons from 120-130 that led to pars. Had an 185 yard par 3 and hit the 4. Had about 25 feet left and made par. Had some dumb shots too, but they were fun to hit. Won't put them back in the bag, but still solid!

Someone saw my bag today (w/ Altitude irons) at the range and said that a new iteration (he used the term "HiBore") is coming out from Cleveland later in the year.
He didn't have specifics yet but said his Cleveland rep mentioned it the other day.
Sept/Oct timeframe-ish.

The only question I asked was if it would be under the Srixon name and he said, nope.... Cleveland.

Aha! More fodder for the speculation in the Shootout thread! Thanks!
