Cobra DS-ADAPT Fairways and Hybrids

The freaking 7W.

The ball speeds I see out of this damn thing are just….well, they don’t make sense to me at times hahaha

Either way, it’s become the most clutch club in my bag. One day this week I’m going to tee off with nothing but 7W on all the non-3’s and see how it shakes out.
Spoiler- you’re gonna shoot par or better 🤣

Joining @Jman in my love for the 7W. My goal was to replace by 4H with something I felt more comfortable looking at on the tee, while still having a reasonable option from the fairway in the proper circumstances. The 7W was done that and more. Like has been discussed, it is a freaking weapon. I am probably going to loft it up a bit to create a bit of a bigger distance gap between it and my DS-ADAPT 5W. But it has been fun.

I never thought I would have 3 fairway woods in my bag, but here I am, The FF33 system just makes it all blend so perfectly.

I shifted the makeup of my bag this year due to all the love I saw for the 7w, and it worked out so well.

I used to carry 3w/5w/4h/5i, but never felt very comfortable with my 5i anymore. I love hitting woods, so a 7w made sense. I still liked hybrids though, so I didn’t want to fully get rid of them. Adding the 7w, changing my hybrid to a 5h, then starting my set on a 6i has been so great for me. I feel so much more confident pulling the 7w or 5h on shots around 190-200 than I ever did with irons, and my game has improved because of it. No more pride here - I’m going to play what makes it easier for me to score!

The sound of the FW woods is unbelievable. I take a lot of pride in cracking any of them. I have received more than a few comments about how crispy the sound is when I catch one, which is a lot with these.

I’ll also say, I have tested my 5w and 7w out of relatively thick rough, and they work there too!

I'll say the sound off all of the DS-adapt lineup has been incredibly well thought out and designed. The fairways are no exception.

And I'm someone crazy enough that I wouldn't continue to play clubs if they didn't sound good to me no matter how they perform.

I have been and continue to be a huge proponent of fairway woods in general, and these DS Adapt fairway woods specifically. As a short hitter, my game depends on a decent amount of longer clubs being hit into greens on approach shots. Fairway woods for me need to be useful in hitting into greens and getting enough height and spin to hold.

I have the DS Adapt X 3HF in my bag this year as last year I noticed my 3 and 5 woods were being used for the same shots, and I would pick one based on how I felt about that club in my last few hits with it. I figured having a just one club for that slot would be a better option for me and it's played out really well. The 3HF hits a good number for me below driver, it's been extremely useful both off the tee and off fairway lies, it's easy to hit and easy to control.

Next I have the DS Adapt X 7 wood. I've had a seven wood int he bag for a few years now and each time I switch it I worry that I'll lose the magic of the current 7 wood. The Aerojet 7 wood was great, the Darkspeed 7 wood was just a touch better for me, and the DS Adapt X 7 wood has been even better. I still get the ease of use from any lie (fairway, rough, tee) and when I step up I have immense faith in where my shot is going. The ball launches quickly and flies with this high but penetrating flight and I feel like I can absolutely stop it on any green from a fairway shot. The 7 wood is my favorite club in my bag.

Then I went with the DS Adapt Max 9 wood. Last year I had a 5 hybrid in this slot but just didn't have as much faith. I tend to lose my hybrids more to a hook and I do my fairway woods (no idea why). So the move to the Max 9 wood was good for my game. It took a bit of time messing with the FF33 settings to get my into a good distance gapping as the Max fairway woods flight significantly higher and spin more than the X, this left the 9 wood a bit short for where I needed it in it's stock setting, but being able to adjust the FF33 settings got my height and spin down and my distance into the yardage i was looking for.

The forgiveness and ball speed retention across the face of all 3 fairway woods is fantastic. Toe side shots get a nice bit of gear affect back towards the center without a huge loss of ball speed. Heel shots do get more spin and less ball speed but will still be perfectly acceptable. The feel and sound off the face are really nice but let you know where you missed a shot at. I really love these clubs and cannot imagine how Cobra will improve on these; Though I'm sure they will.

How has the 6 hybrid been for you this year? Has FF33 allowed you to tame that hook? Or do you want Cobra to make an 11 wood?

I'm always torn on this. My love of fairway woods absolutely wants Cobra to make an 11 wood and if they do it will absolutely make my bag. I tend to just hit fairway woods better.

But the 6 hybrid this year has been fantastic every time I have pulled it. The FF33 adapter has absolutely allowed me to further tame my hood tendency out of the equation. My 6 hybrid has anywhere from a slight draw to a slight fade flight based on my imperfect strike this year and it's been absolutely fantastic and i'm glad to have it in the bag. It been a club that I have absolutely been thankful to have in the bag. In the past I wasn't seeing my distance differences between my 6 and 7 irons. Hitting a hybrid gave me better gapping but the threat of a hook. The DS Adapt hybrid with the FF33 setting has that fear of the hook out of my mind as it only pops up on my absolute worst swings (which is a me problem). Also having the hybrid allows me to go after so shots in thicker rough that i'm not sure the fairway woods would be as helpful as there is just more area of the rough to snag and slow up a fairway wood. Some of the thicker lies at Victoria National the hybrid was a better option than a fairway wood and gave me a bit more distance than my 7 iron would have.

If Cobra comes out with an 11 wood, I will absolutely purchase it, but I will still have the 6 hybrid as well and will likely choose the club that will be in the bag for the round based on course conditions and how I feel about my game at the moment.

Welp bought 7w to replace ZXi 7w....have the LS 3HF - shape & size just fits my eyes better. ZXi is hot but its a small profile and I fight the digs

You summed up my experience as well with the 6h. It launches well and can tackle the rough better than an iron in most cases for me. At times I feel the distance consistency is a lacking a bit compared to an iron but that's a me thing with strike consistency due to the longer shaft length. Now that tinker season is here I have a shorter and heavier shaft inbound that I hope to get some run with.

The adapt FW woods do not disappoint. Playing on Sun aft I used all of the adapt FW on some really tight tee shots. No missed FW and a 7w into a par 5 for the second shot that I thought would be short made the greenside bunker. I also agree with @TWright make the 11w lol I would grab one also in a heartbeat.

Played 9 Sunday for the first time in weeks. Was sad I never got to hit my 7w. I think that is 2-3 nines since I got it and put the RB in it and I've been able to hit it... once? Boo.

Oh 7W. You be so good to me.

Had a shot out of thick rough today that I’d have been dead with trying an iron or hybrid. Fairway handled it with no problem.

Hit a really good 3W exactly how I wanted to off the tee today. I posted about it in the live thread but there was a tree on the left side around 240 out.

If I flew the tree it would leave me in perfect A1 position in the center of the fairway.

I saw the shot. Thought only about the target and hit a great floaty cut that just barely clipped the top of the tree and landed soft exactly in the fairway where I planned.

It feels damn good to hit one exactly how you want to.

When I swing it smooth this Adapt 3HF just MOVES.

Fought through the hip pain and exhaustion for 9 holes this morning with my brother in law. I played senior tees since driver swings hurt. Hit the 7w a few times (so easy, so good) and finished the round with the shot of the day: 6 hybrid from 175 to 4 ft. Perfect strike, beautiful ball that rose in a line all the way to the apex, baby draw back into the wind, middle of the green, released left towards the pin. Didn't realize how close it was until we got up to it. +1.40 SG 🔥

Played yesterday with @E.Appleton and @hackitup at Clustered Spires in Maryland and the DS Adapt fairways were working well for me. The confidence that I have when pulling the head covers off these clubs is just unreal. I just feel like I can send these fairways easily on the line that I pick with good height and a nice little baby draw most of the time.

Had a few nice tee balls with the 3HF. Another few nice approach shots with the 7 and 9 woods. One that really stuck out was on the 9th hole, our 18th as we started on 10. Hit a decent drive that found the left rough. Had 160 to the front of the green, green was a bit higher than where I was in the rough. Decided to pull my 9 wood which is my 160 club as missing a bit short is better than long here and figure if I could get on the front of the green I would be happy. Pulled the shot slightly but watched as the ball sailed with a nice baby draw hitting just to the right of the front bunker and bouncing up onto the green ending around 20 to 25 feet from the hole.

Wednesday's first round will be my 7W round. I'm pretty excited to see how it goes, especially on two of our par 5's haha

Another winter battle. LS 3w

After a few rounds with the DS-Adapt 7W, I’m convinced that it’s easier to hit than any other hybrid I have owned.

And it’s been straighter for me than the Apex UW, which is crazy because I love the Apex UW.

There was a big -40% off demo clubs sale at my local shop. Bought this baby mostly for the head, as it'll likely get a Powercore treatment next year. But it'll be fun to see what the light Denali can do. It's been hit practically never.

If I want that 7w now seems like the right time with the sale on DS-Adapt

I wish I could figure out why I have such an on again / off again relationship with the Adapt fairway woods. There are times when I feel like I cannot miss with the 3 and 5w. But then times like now when I feel like I can't hit them inside 50y of my target.

I know I keep mentioning that when I slow down and swing them very smoothly and deliberately, they tend to be very good for me. But I guess I keep losing that feel. It's tough because that's a different feel than what I have with my other clubs. With everything else but driver, my feel is firing hard with my hips while the hands are up top and then let the clubhead rip through the zone with a full release. When I do that with the 3 and 5 they are GIANT hooks, sometimes snappy.

When I'm hitting the fairway woods best, my feel is a smoother, more 'relaxed' starting of the hips and then a feel of almost holding off the face at impact and releasing late. It's great when I have that feel but it's difficult to hold onto because it's such a big departure from everything else.

I'm no expert, but have you ever tried going "counterintuitive" with the FF33 settings? I was looking to straighten my ball flight out at one point with the 3W (fighting a push) and I tried going flat instead of upright with the adapter and it worked. I've since gone back, but sometimes for me it was about adjusting my delivery to what I was seeing down at the ball. I know you get a ton of SIM time in. Might be worth tooling around with?
