Cobra DS-ADAPT Fairways and Hybrids

So, when you discover that for the past, well, since you assembled your clubs at the Morgan Cup, that you had your 7W to only -1.4 and TWO UPRIGHT, which explains some of the inconsistency with left misses….

Ugh.

Set back to -2 and 0 lie, HAMMER time.

There’s your “surpise! Im sorry the driver took so long to get to you!” Prize hahaha

I cannot wait for you to tinker with it, its SO hot off the face.

TOOOOOOTALLY.

I worked SO hard to make that one work, it just never clicked.

I started in A1 and saw the ball just fall to the right or a push. I figured it was because of the lush driving range I was hitting off of. I then started to tee up a little bit and still seeing a little right miss. I pulled out the chart and decided to jump into D8 so I could see the ball just fly a little higher. It was a great change and I did see my next handful of shots really look good. I was antsy to try the driver so I stopped there but I will be trying this out again this weekend. In the X I am in the A5 setting so being on the different end of the spectrum with D8 is interesting.

This makes me love FF33 even more

Price drop on the FW's from $329 to $259 at Carl's Golf Land.
Of course I just ordered a "like new" Mavrik 5wd from CPO 2 days ago.... 🤷‍♂️ :(

Send it back. That's a hell of a deal on these fairway Woods.

FF33 is the only reason I even considered a draw biased Max. My in-to-out swing produces a hook as a miss, so without the FF33, there's no way I could dial that in. I wanted the profile of the Max to try out, so it'll be interesting to see which setting I end up in.

Ok LS 3w is a rocket launcher. 🤣

Used it 3 times yesterday and was very impressed. 1 got to the green on a long par 5. Had 276 in and was pin high on green. Next I used off the tee and I tried to direct it so didnt get all of it but it was over 250yds but low. Last shot I was in rough, not thick, but was able to get enough on it to "punch out" over 240 yds to the front of the green on a par 5.

This club is a lot of fun

Lol when I did my fitting I was first handed the X 3w. I hit super well, and asked the fitter if I could try the LS. He said no because I would hit it was far as my driver 🤣

They way you can change the settings… man, so good and I bet you will start mashing that head

That kind of pricing makes me consider a 9w…

Another day out on the course with the LS 3w and this club is fun to hit. It I think replaces the X in the bag for now. The biggest thing for me is the ease of hitting out of the rough with this club. It really makes me want to try it more off the tee so see if it can keep me away from some hazards.

First round in the books with the Max 5W. I tested it on the range before the round and ended up going all the way to A5 (STD loft, 2* flat) to take out most of the draw bias. I'm already in-to-out and draw naturally with longer clubs. The ability of the FF33 to do this is a major reason I even thought about getting a Max head. Only used it three times today, but all were situations where I didn't have a club I could pull before.

We're going to get along just great with it!

With the season wrapping its time to tinker a little more. When I was comparing my 6H stats this year with the DS-Adapt to the RadSpeed stats from last year, the RadSpeed was 17’ closer to the hole. Now those numbers should be taken with a little grain of salt because sample size is only over 12 shots tracked this year. That said, closer is closer.

The difference between the two is that I have a heavier shaft in the RadSpeed. Well, now I have the same heavier shaft built up for the DS-Adapt so I can get a true head to head. Decent chance I’ll get out a few more times this year but will also get to a sim or range to get a large sample and see what happens. I’m looking forward to it.

Oh the 7W.

It remains an absolute do it all club for me.

Hit some SILLY flighted shots earlier this week into the wind that had no business maintaining the distance that they did. This head, turned down to 19 and paired with the LIN-Q Powercore White 8TX has been the biggest revelation for me this year. By FAR.

@TWright - sell me on a 9w…
@Scooby45 here is why I went 9 wood this year. (Sorry for the long post).

When making my 25 bag I went back to look at my 24 bag and my usage.

The top of my 24 bag had Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 7 wood, 5 hybrid, 6 hybrid, 7 iron. I knew that the longest iron I was going to go with was the 7 iron again as I had found previously that I didn't have enough of a gap between my 6 iron and 7 iron to justify both irons and the 6 hybrid worked out brilliantly for me in 24. I was obviously going Driver and I absolutely loved my 7 wood in 24 so those 2 were musts. Then the question became what clubs to fill in between the Driver at 200 and 7 wood at 175, and the 7 wood at 175 and 6 hybrid at 150ish carry. The 3 wood and 5 wood for me in 24 were used for the same shots so I went for the best of both worlds and tried the 3HF. Then I needed to address the 7 wood to 6 hybrid gap. I thought back to my 24 usage of the 5 hybrid and found that while I loved the 6 hybrid, for some reason I didn't have that same love of the 5 hybrid. I do not know why but the 5 hybrid I found I had a lot more hooks and off shots with it than did other clubs in my bag and I just didn't have high confidence. I have always felt more comfortable hitting fairway woods than hybrids and Cobra was offering a 9 wood in the DS Adapt Max which was different than my other woods in the DS Adapt X lineup, But I had confidence with the FF33 adapter that I could find a way to slot the 9 wood in.

When I got my clubs this was the slot I went to work on first. I got distances for the stock setup of my 7 iron, 6 hybrid, 9 wood and 7 wood and all of them came up right where I expected except the 9 wood. 7 iron was carry 135, 6 hybrid was carrying 145+, 7 wood was carrying 175 but 9 wood was carrying low 150's. The difference between the X and Max fairways had the 9 wood launching higher, flying higher and spinning more but with that extra height and spin the ball was moon shooting a bit and coming up short of where I needed it, so went to work with the FF33 adapter as the ball had a nice draw flight on it I was looking for went to work dropping the loft and got the ball flight and spin lowered a touch and had my 160 yard club that slotted right where I wanted.

Over the course of this season the 7 wood and 9 wood have been my favorite clubs. The extra length lets me get more speed on the shot and gets the ball launching higher than a comparable hybrid for me. I am getting plenty of spin and a descent into the green that the ball is often within a couple of paces of the ball mark on approach shots into the green. I have had no trouble stopping approach shots with the 9 wood. It's been solid in every instance that I have pulled i out for. Getting through rough, yep it does that with the ball coming out slightly lower than from the fairway with a tough more roll. Fairway bunkers, sure just quiet up the legs and make sure the lip is low enough and you are gonna get a good result. Fairways this thing is amazing and the turf contact is great. Off the tee, yep I'm for 2025 i'm hitting greens at a 33% rate with the 9 wood which is my 4th highest of all my clubs, it's only trailing my PW, 48* and 52* wedges and those are my 100, 85 and 75 yard clubs. 9 wood is ridiculously good if you hit fairways well. 9 wood is a club that will definitely be in my 26 bag.

Just wanted to give a quick update on the DS Adapt fairways and hybrid I have in the bag. I received these in April and they have been the only clubs I have used this year since then. I have played a decent amount of courses and the fairways and hybrid have been used from all lies Tee, fairways, rough, fairway bunkers. Some pretty bare lies have been taken on and the clubs to me have held up really well. You see the normal scrapes on the sole of the clubs but the crown and face have held up well.

I am 100% a believer in the adapter and how they can make fairway woods so much more approachable for an amateur golfer. I have cycled through all kinds of fairway woods, and none have truly clicked. I’ve gotten close with a few, and when I look at them, they all seem to be on the upright side of things.

With these, I can put it wherever I want to make it work. I have hit so many more fairway shots this year that just simply hold the line. My driver went AWOL last time out so wore out the 7w and just about everyone stayed pretty much right down the line. So much more fun to play golf when the club isn’t fighting you.

I love these types of posts. We always see the glam shots of brand new clubs but it's rare to be able to see how a club holds up long term. These still look really good.

I have loved my 2025 bag, top to bottom, as much as any bag in memory. There are times that I could possibly say this about any spot in the bag, but the DS-Adapt fairways are likely my "favorite". They check every box for me: long, easy to hit off tee and turf, easy to elevate, accurate, look good, sound good, and they have proven to be more versatile that maybe even intended. The 7 X has been stupid fun to play and has been my most point-and-shoot club I have, but the 3HF really has been a fun club to hit even if I don't swing it as often. I actually probably prefer the ball flight I get with the 3HF over even the 7, as it is so penetrating, and find that it is even more of a hoot now that the fairways have died out. The piercing trajectory and subsequent roll out are making for some insane distances. The icing on the cake is that the feel and sound off these fairways is so good.

Oh the 7W.

She didn’t let me down in AZ, and other than a couple big ass blocks off the turf because I’d had too many wobbly pops as @Canadan says, it was a weapon.

The thing remains the consistency. I sat and thought about what I’d like to see in terms of changes for the next models, but I can’t think of anything. It’s already long as heck for me, any more I’d HAVE to go 9W for that spot of the bag.
