Cobra KING TEC MD Mini Driver

It sucks, but also just the reality. I don't and won't ever blame a company for making a club or series RH only. They are a Business and gotta make money!

Blame them, no......but don't buy their shirts, gloves, shoes, bags, balls etc either.

Don't give them the high margin business if they won't give you the low margin business.

I’m not against mini drivers, but never had much want for one. Hearing things like this from you (and a few others) has my ears perked up though.
They are a lot of fun

That's awesome. Thanks for the write up @Jman I was excited to see what they would come out with. I know what the cc differences mean in a vacuum, I'm unsure how that truly translates to the course but I'm obviously very hopeful that it'll be a great second option or 3wood replacement, which is what I have always viewed it as for my game.
It’s only 5cc smaller than the TM, so it’s not as drastic as it may seem, but it’s still a difference for sure.

It definitely brings another level to mini drivers with FF33 implemented compared to other more basic adapter systems out there.
Since it gives you 4 degrees of loft, id argue it’s extremely versatile and players could find this fit for multiple uses. So excited to get this in my bag.

I definitely have an itchy trigger finger, but the prudent thing would be to wait and see if it can win a spot in the bag in the testing bay.

Where's the fun in that?

Well here is the thing. I have never once been a I'll hit 3w guy off the tee, I'm driver always...unless there is trouble ahead in range. The mini allows me to hit less than driver but still gives me more forgiveness than a 3w would.

And ordered!

Been waiting for this one to release. Not 100% this will work for me but I’ve been wanting to try it out for sure.

There it is! Finally. I know you are happy @Jman !

Great article! I’ll check out the site in a bit to review options. At 300cc, this should slot in a bag nicely.
Been tough staying truly quiet on this one, but after hitting it at the MC it was worth the wait.

This could be the year to try out the MINI Driver. I have always loved anything Cobra puts out.

Had this on course a few months ago and let me tell you, I wasn't a mini driver guy, but I am now. This is everything I didn't know I needed but I do.

I’ve always tried to tell people how darn useful they can be if more would just give them a shot.

That said, def still not for everyone.

To add on - with the design of certain MDs, you aren’t sacrificing being able to use it off turf as well. Basically getting the benefit of a better tee club while maintaining the option to use as a FW.

What about the Mini vs 3 wood gives you the change of mindset there?

That depends on the design yes. I don't see myself using this off the deck much but certainly would consider it instead of a DOD situation that normally doesn't end well haha

I don’t know why, but this being part of the King TEC family and not the driver like makes a lot of sense to me.

Great article @Jman. Always here for the dramatic.

My take (and others can agree / disagree) - the cc of the mini sits between a 3W (call it 170-180 cc) and driver (460), toeing a fine line between giving you more confidence/forgiveness off the tee (with size of head) while giving you the ability to hit off the turf (by ensuring head is has some depth to aid in that shot).

I’ve found some minis harder to hit off the deck because they are too large - this seems like a great size that isn’t too obtrusive but still gives you confidence.
Just a little random discussion note, more depth typically makes a club more difficult to hit off the deck as it shifts the CG axis, it’s why the easiest to hit from the turf woods/hybrids are on the shallow end of the spectrum.

The more forgiveness part really and a bit larger surface area to miss haha

To me it can be a Win-Win for some.
Just can't hit your Driver and 3W Head is too small to Tee up? That's why I think Mini just doesn't go away.

I'd argue most of us mortals are better off laying up than hitting 3w/Mini off the deck....

I don't think I'll be getting rid of my Elyte anytime soon but I am happy to see this one finally come to market. There's a lot to love with this one.

Thanks for the writeup @Jman
The Elyte mini remains the higher spinning of the minis I’ve worked with, so if that’s a need, it’s gonna be hard to beat.

Right - it depends on the design. My GT280 is a great club off turf but prob couldn’t do for some other minis.

Shouldn’t have to be much of an argument. It’s the hardest shot to pull off for an amateur.

Great write up @Jman!!!
I know I don't need a Mini, but you always make me want one, with statements like this:

"In terms of adjustability, the KING TEC MD features a dual weight system to allow mass movement forward/back to dial in spin, speed, as well as effectiveness off the deck for those that seek it."

Yet you look at most everyone's bag make up and......

I'm glad it exists because options are good but it's not an option I'm currently considering. It just doesn't fit my game. I'm excited to give it a few swings though.
I covered on 18 with it. Not the most aggressive line possible, but aggressive.

And that was with Jose’s red F3 in it.
