Cobra OPTM Driver Lineup: Redefining Inertia Beyond MOI

I definitely think I suffer from some of the face closer issues with the Max-K from time to time, resulting in a big right block. I added a little lead tape near the hosel to help mitigate, but I'm curious how the new model would play for me in comparison, or if the new X with weight back would be better for me. Alas, can't even start partial swings for two more days, much less go after a driver. Will be a couple of months before I can test these.
At the Morgan Cup, I asked a very similar question. I am someone how initially had trouble closing the face. I solved that issue with a shaft change, and that allowed me to time up my swing better. the Max K became a weapon for me since then.

That said, and to your point, Jose suggested I try the X and not just jump straight into the K blind. The OPTM X is going to be closer to the DS-Adapt K than the DS-Adapt X was, if that makes sense. So for people like me, and it seems like you, the OPTM X may be in that magical goldilocks zone for us.

It could. Assuming the engineers behind the designs, and the computer driven simulation programs they’re using, didn’t take such things into account.

By all means, the PWRBRIDGE isn’t the story here, and as I mentioned in the article all the lofts within each model are now the same, minus typical loft and lie changes. But, with that though, it’s not like they’re just ripping something out and calling it good.

I’ll make sure to talk with Doug Roberts about this at dinner when we are at the show, and have a full post for you.
That would be really cool to hear about how design philosophy evolves. It will be interesting to see if they are working on a new pwrbrige design that is tuned for the poi.

The POI concept feels very similar to when ping eschewed the low spin weight up front bombers in the early 2010s and pushed the moi concept. Will be interesting to see if it plays out similarly

Does it? I guess I’m not really seeing the similarity there?

Maybe I'm unique, but

Maybe I'm unique, but I think this looks better in phone pics. Gives me a Ping G30 feel.
SOOOOOOOOOO much smaller than that hahahaha

I like that it says "Hot Face".. You can say that to playing partners every time you bomb one! I know I would.

Looking forward to seeing which one you end up choosing, hope you get to do some thorough testing before having to decide.
I think it’s going to be between K and X - really excited to hit both.

That is a beautiful sound! Thats for sure!

This X version needs hit. Love that they are figuring out ways to help avg. Joes with shots that matter. I would love to see the dispersion in my tee game shrink by 23%. That is a real meaningful number.

I haven't had a chance to mess with the FF33 adapter. Everyone keeps saying such good things about it, I'm just curious if I'd leave my settings alone after a fitting or just keep messing around because I'm such a tinkerer!

I have the FF33 in my fairway woods. It took less than 5 swings to dial in my desired ball flight. I left the woods in that setting for most of the season, only adjusting it to lower my ball flight in the wind.

Also, tip of the cap to Cobra on pricing, holding their ground when many others are not.
This is important as new equipment is such an investment these days

Excited to hear more about hands on performance! DS Adapt X has been awesome for me and I could definitely use 23% better dispersion! Also coming from a special release DS Adapt, I do notice that there’s a lot of space for some sweet special edition artwork!!

Great article. Great insights. And how excited Jose was when talking about these make me super excited about them as well.

I went Max K in the DS-Adapt, but I think I would go back to the X in the OPTM with the adjustments that were made to forgiveness and weighting. Should be a phenomenal weapon for me. Now to see if I make the leap on these or the fairways which would also be insane for me.

So I did a driver fitting yesterday. Hit the Callaway Quantum Max, the Qi4D Max, and the Optim Max K along with some other drivers.

The Max K just blew them away. I've had a high toe miss recently and everything was still relatively playable compared to the others. Also a fan of the simplistic design versus the more Transformer approach with a bunch of moving weights from other models.

Ended up with 9° Max K lofted down to almost 7°.

Last two were 270 carry—for my current swing that's still really long, but everything was just so straight.

Asked on the tech story and the guy said he didn't know, that we'd find out more tomorrow. Was so good I ordered it pre-embargo date.

A lot of interesting stuff. That sound was awesome as well. Some pure metallic goodiness lol.

Thank you!

It’s across all models.

Actually, the K could very well see the BIGGEST benefit of the lower POI numbers achieved versus last time around, which should increased its appeal thanks to decreasing the blocks and hood some saw due to the super high MOI impact on face rotation through the zone.
Interesting. I would have thought with that much weight back and need for higher MOI that there would be less to play with to get POI down.

Nice looking club for sure. The company I work for actually 3D printed some test heads for Cobra a while back in late 2024. Crazy how long ago that was vs the release window.

I’ve watched some videos of testing and a few things stand out
  • The X is a speed machine. Also the spin was interesting
  • The LS looks very playable and numbers wise is giving better players the ball speed they want and then some
  • The Max K is a fairway finder. Not as long but very accurate.
  • The shaft pairing is interesting and the Ka’Li seemed to pair well across different swing speeds.

Interesting concept here. I have no doubt these will have the speed Cobra is famous for but if they’ve dialed in the accuracy as well these could be dangerous.

Unless my demo goes completely off the rails, I'm getting an X or K to replace my standard Aerojet.

You’re gonna love the LEAP things have made since that head.
