Corona Virus/COVID19: Local Impact

Covid map of the day. Maybe it makes sense to have different responses/actions for different geographic areas and different age demographics? We know that this is mostly deadly to people over the age of 60 with other medical conditions. The map makes it obvious that odds of Covid 19 death is also highly concentrated in some high population density counties.

Thanks for sharing this. It's quite informative.

“Yet this year we completely abandoned all logic and reason and fell victim to fear porn.

Even now, as the data becomes clearer and clearer that our national lockdown was nonsensical, many cling to the idea because they are terrified to acknowledge that we’ve overreacted, shutting down our national economy based on an overabundance of fear.

Last week the CDC released coronavirus data on their website which made it clear that if you are under the age of fifty you are in more danger of death from the yearly flu than you are from the coronavirus.“

This is the part that bothers me the most. If we are to believe the CDC, which we were told to trust, how are states still locking down.

The flip side argument of course is that because of the lockdown, less deaths have occurred. Which is true in my opinion, but the CDC's info (is that accurate?) suggests everybody should be open for business.

CA announced yesterday a modification to the stay at home order, this moves 47 of the 58 counties of the state partially into Phase 3 (of 4). Effective yesterday, salons and barbershops are now open with face coverings required. Nail places, movie theaters, gyms are also in Phase 3 but not yet open at this time. Churches were provided guidelines for reopening in person services on Monday. Today the state will announce requirements for child care and summer camps and teased that the guidelines for professional sports are forthcoming.

Sounds like CA is moving right along! And it's noticeable, so many more people out and about. Even our county's large wine industry is getting into the game by partnering with food trucks to qualify for the "restaurant exemption".

That is awesome.

Very interesting map here. This definitely shows how we need to treat this different per locale.

But less deaths haven’t occurred all up all in...

“And neither the flu nor the coronavirus death toll is likely to substantially alter the year end death toll, which is likely to end up around 2.8 million like it does every year.”

The only thing going up exponentially is the unemployment rate. Fauci is tragically incompetent the very least...

I agree with everything here. The initial lockdown did save lives, but I believe most erred on being too cautious opening back up and imposing too strict of restrictions.

I give a little bit of benefit of the doubt because so much of the initial info wasn’t accurate. Right now staying locked down is ludicrous though.

Here is where I struggle though. Being too cautious sounds great when there are no ramifications. We are approaching 50 million unemployed people. We have 700% increase in suicide hotlines. We have lie after lie being told in headlines for click bait. We are being told that wanting to go back to work to save our business and feed our family is selfish.

********! This isn't about err on the side of cautious. That was fine for 2 weeks, even a month. This is about playing games and control and it saddens me that anybody can gamble with citizens and sleep at night.

As a friend, I’d ask you try to avoid anyone saying that this is selfish behavior. Being worried about the economic health of all others is far from that. Imho it’s about striking a balance. What Bolsonaro is promoting could also be seen as gambling with people. That’s sad as well.
The questions being asked are realy tough with lots of variables and too few facts, particularly early on

Talked to my friends in Sao Paulo today and they both said it is not nearly as bad as the media is playing it...what a huge surprise. Yes there are cases and most educated people are using social distancing and have been at home for 2 months, now that is one of the huge problems in Brasil, the education / wealth difference is so vast and it affects millions upon millions of people.

It will be interesting to see when we reach the tipping point and the MSM narrative changes from "we're all gonna die" to "your leader/party destroyed your life for nothing, vote for this other leader/party instead" The over/under is August. Then we'll have an outbreak from something legit like Ebola or Nipah virus and people will say "yeah right, you fooled me with the last one, I won't get fooled again" and we'll be screwed.

We heard from a couple different people that Jen is friends with that a child at one of the schools near us has tested positive for the virus

I don't know if they have comorbidities or if this is a case of the virus hitting an otherwise healthy child

Good, maybe some of the Californians will freaking go back home from AZ then. I drive around town and see more CA plates than AZ plates.

Here we go, certain groups will demand we shut down again and destroy what is left of the economy

I think that ship has sailed. Trying to lock us down like what we just went through won't fly. Too many people and businesses are hurting economically. Just my opinion, but I don't think people will go along with another lockdown. Shame on the media for choosing politics over the lives of people.

anybody can get it, although the effects are much more prevalent in older populations

Ebola? Was it legit the last time? Would we need more than 4 cases in the US to make it legit?

CDC reversing its course slightly. Now saying “it’s POSSIBLE” to transmit on surfaces.

Now we have to worry about rats

I know that, we have seen in the news here that a baby has died due to the virus in the country
This child is the youngest we have seen in our area, but we also knew a member of our golf club lost a family member earlier in this situation

Now we have to worry about rats

Nice! Rats are a great choice because of their association with witchcraft and the plague. I was thinking you play up the aggressive stray dogs angle, or maybe bears in parks used to eating human trash who could (could!) wander into town and start eating babies, but rats are the superior choice especially since we've already done bats.
