Corona Virus/COVID19: Local Impact

Where do you see that their infection rate is a fraction to a few other counties? I just happen to be looking at LA County due to my company’s new personal travel policy and I have an employee that wants to head that way this weekend and my HR is telling him he shouldn’t. If I could find your numbers, it might help? From what I see, LA County is only second in the state in infections per 100k to Imperial County. This is the website that they told me to use when approving time off requests for people traveling outside my county.View attachment 8946321

I think your "facts" are slightly off. The CDC disagrees with your data.
A simple calculation... according to Google the population of Lassen county is 30,573 (as of 2019). 4 cases would give an infection rate per 100,000 of 13. According to the CDC the infection rate of LA county is 496 per 100,000. Somehow I think 496 is greater than 13 but that just may be my opinion.

My apologies, I meant to type "new" cases, not simply cases.

That is not a worse infection rate. Also, still only 4 cases, some states just want to stay closed.
Why do you take one counties approach and say "some states want to stay closed"? This was the same county that many of you folks were hammering on about wanting to reopen and being a voice of reason in the state. Now they are the opposite? 49 of 58 counties have reopened retail, restaurants and many have reopened personal care etc.

Remember your issue with blanket statements for locations with different situations? CA is a big state.

As someone with a business hurt by his actions i am as the thread title suggests commenting on what is happening here locally. Mocking him, no im not mocking him. Im offering fair comment on what he is doing. If you believe its appropriate under these circumstances to bring in Chris Rock and Rosie Perez to lecture you you certainly have that right. If you find it amusing when the Governor mocks the kid at spring break who said he wasnt worried about the Corona virus and Chris Rock says “he is dead” and Cuomo laughs hysterically and says you wont see that video anymore that is your right, just as its my right to think his actions are wrong. I would feel the same regardless of his political affiliation . If you are ok with the nursing home fiasco that is your right and defend him if you wish. This isnt me questioning his politics its me making valid points as to my feelings about his actions adversely impacting many.
I don't disagree with any of this. I don't like Cuomo at all. He ridiculously blocked fracking in the state and all the jobs and revenue involved with it. The nursing home decisions were awful. His delay in initially putting forth shutdowns hurt badly. His dithering on re-opening plans is bad. I'm just pointing out how the reprimands on this board haven't gotten applied equally.

From the today's Washington Examiner:

“WHO only recommends the use of a mask in specific cases. If you have cough, fever, and difficulty breathing, you should wear a mask and seek medical care. If you do not have these symptoms, you do not have to wear masks because there is no evidence that they protect people who are not sick.”

This is getting confusing, lol.

Well, don't pay attention to WHO since USA may be withdrawing from it.

CDC -

CDC continues to study the spread and effects of the novel coronavirus across the United States. We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

It is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6-feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the virus. CDC is additionally advising the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.

The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.

So WHO says one thing, and the CDC another. Glad that got cleared up, lol.

The CDC at least makes sense in the explanation.

Wait so we are back to believing the WHO? Good to know.

Also, don't most folks agencies agree that the mask is to protect those around the wearer and not the wearer themselves? The WHO statement seems to partially jive with that.

The WHO also says social distancing is staying 3 feet apart, not 6. Why the difference? They were plucked out of different asses of course.

I am going with what makes sense... let me flip a coin - OK, it's the CDC version.

Trying to understand the argument here... I mean, we know about pneumonia, common cold, flu, etc. and have medication to help rid ourselves of it.

But we don't know much about Covid and have no preventative except distancing and masks, and staying outside and limited periods inside.

I'm all for opening up gradually and respectfully, but I'm not sure of this comparison. I've had pneumonia recently, have had the flu and vacciine beforehand (but no flu vax for me recently) antibiotiics and medication get you through it. There is no real vaccine or remedy for this, which if we dropped distancing and masks and return too 100k people screaming in a stadium, I don't think the afteraffects would be pretty. Just trying to understand here.
Sorry I missed this...

The point is deaths can be classified as pneumonia AND Wuhan. Here's CDC's own page which explicitly flags deaths which are both Wuhan AND pneumonia.

For the sake of not starting a huge debate and continued back and forth, let’s just refer to the virus as COVID.
If you don’t call it the Rona, I’m not sure I follow. ;)

Vegas is now in Phase 2. Everyone is making it a party. I will continue to wait for Phase 3 until I let my guard down. I am a bit disappointed at the Governor who is allowing bowling alleys, inside malls, public pools and casinos to reopen, however, real estate agents, like myself, are not allowed to host open houses. The capacity of an open house is usually no more than 4 ppl at a time (if we're lucky) and no more than 10-15 ppl during a 4-hour span. We cannot host open houses until June 30th. It makes no sense at all. SMH

A wedding I am in this September is likely postponed. I couldn’t imagine trying to plan one of the most important days of your life being a gathering with 100+ people in this environment. Bachelor party plans TBD.

I call it CV because I'm too lazy to type it.

Then irony of ironies.... I go to a store. I walk up to the door. I see a sign on the door. Big sign. The biggest sign. In yellow. It was a big sign in yellow. It said. "You must wear a mask to enter."

They didn't require this the last time I was there. I keep a N95 in my car just in case I need one for 5 minutes to dash into a store, pick up something and leave. So I grabbed the respirator and put it on. I went into the store to buy the goods. Ironically, no one working in the store was wearing a mask, except for the cashier.

Also there is evidence published in the one of the local newspapers that our state has been counting accident deaths as CV if the person tested positive.

In MA, it's not church's that are on every corner, no, we have Dunkin' Donuts on every corner, lol.

ps: The town I live in was founded in 1625. Our claim to fame, is we have the busiest DD on the planet. DD's are like a virus, spreading everywhere. :)

And yet you support then with your “Coolatta” purchase? Shame sir, shame. Lol!

If you are afraid of being infected keep your @$$ at home with the door locked!!! My freedom doesn't end where your fear begins.

Yup. Everyone has choices to make at this point. I’d be characterized as “high risk” due to underlying health issues. I take precuations but it was literally a case of “do I carry on about my day to day or do I cower in fear of something that I don’t want but am not scared of”?

I chose to go about my day taking as many precautions as I can. Note-even “high risk” I don’t worry about me. I worry about my oldest boy whom had asthma so bad that his lungs are scarred. If it’s my time I hope I go peacefully. It’s not his time yet so I don’t want him to get it.

Otherwise a big F you to Covid.

Yet he strangely seems to pick mine to reply rather than others more than a couple of times.

Ahh Jeesh. It’s not a conspiracy. I can’t speak for JB but I can say that the “no politics” thing has been floated many times for everyone. Don’t feel persecuted. It opens up a wormhole that divides many of us.

This ain’t a political forum. It’s a golf one. This is a charged thread and I think they’ve been more than lax in enforcing it (a sign of a good place).

But it’s not the place to discuss politics. It’s not the place to place an agenda out there. You wanna talk about getting a haircut finally, that’s a local impact story. You wanna talk about death rates in your area, this is the place. You wanna use it for political grandstanding, this isn’t it. No one cares. We can get our golf news here. Heck we can even stay in tune to what’s happening in the world here. But it’s not the place to push a party (no matter what party) agenda.

Do that elsewhere. I’ve been in tune with this thread since day one, mainly the only thread I follow as it impacts us so much these days. But this thread isn’t supposed to be a place to spew politics. It’s about how Covid has impacted you in your day to day, and expecially tangiant to your golf life.

No one cares if your right, left, independent. We just care that you’d be someone we’d want to tee up with or not. Show us that side of you. Show us the side that wants to pick you up as a 4th when someone in our normal group is missing.

That’s the part I(and guessing, we?) want to see on here. You’re going down a partisan wormhole that isn’t needed or wanted. We just want to know if we want to tee up with you. That’s all. Talk about how getting your beard cut is awesome, or not being able to take your dog to the groomer.

No one wants the political rhetoric. That’s my take on it and you can’t dissuade me. You’re being evaluated. Not for your ideology but as to someone that this place wants to golf with. I was as out there as they get and was invited to an event which was the most awesome few days in my golf life even though I completely forgot how to play golf, lol.

But the politics wormhole. I’m told all the time to use multi-quote. Which is great if I know I’d respond to multiple things. I’ve hit my quota on here and will see myself out for the night.

I also thought it proper to respond 1-1 on this. This isn’t a political place. Not many care about your beliefs. Take it elsewhere. What we care about is “will this person make a good cartner for 4 hours”? That’s all this place cares about. I’ve met friends here. I’ve met acquaintances here. I’ve yet to meet a villain. No one I’ve met here would ever cause me to not want to golf with them. But if I’m out there playing 18 with you (or anyone) and they spend that 4 hours spewing political drivel, yeah that’s the last time I golf with them.

My ideal cartner will track the ball I likely have no idea where its going (unless I feel left, right, or straight-in which case I know it’s one of those-which most of the time I do). He’ll be fun to golf with. He’ll have the same fun whether he or I shoot a 70 or a 100. He won’t bring political discussion unless he and I are already friends then I don’t mind it.

Right now everyone is looking at you as a potential cartner, nothing more. I have no authority to say it, but I still will. Cool it with the politics. Very few care. We want to know if we want to golf with you. That’s all.

This is a great post. Thank you. I will say it feels a bit like you singled out a person when there are others it could have been directed to who have been at least as political, if not more. Hopefully all will take it to heart.

Why are you directing this at me? I haven’t initiated any political talk here. I don’t care to talk politics in a golf forum.

Two school districts in Arizona announced moving to a 4 day school week in the fall.

@Jgonz69 - notice how I respond to a political comment about Cuomo, and @JB immediately responds to reprimand me to not discuss politics, but here you have a whole page of posts discussing politics and not a peep ...

Two words: Albatross Club. :p

We could probably go ahead and close this thread as the country has moved on from Covid to insurrection. I wonder if any of the Covid models accounted for large scale riots.
