Corona Virus/COVID19: Local Impact

How many times have we read in the past few months about Phildelphia War Bonds parade in 1918 that led to a massive explosion of the Spanish Flu? Example was repeteadly used to justify lockdowns. I guess social distancing isn’t important anymore?

It is a very fascinating experience to follow along with the Rona rhetoric, and how it's basically disappeared.

and by fascinating I mean scary: It's either super misleading media, or our Country is about to get HAMMERED by Covid.

funny how the hoaxers in the local lamebook feeds suddenly care about social distancing, always something to complain about

Probably has everything to do with hyprocrisy of the media. Arrest people for trying to work is ok, but Police should stand down when people are looting.

I don't blame anyone for having an extreme opinion with regards to covid.
We are not currently competent enough from a news standpoint to report on the actual reality. Two sites, two extremes.

It's the perfect construct to make two opinions become extreme. Destroy lives, limit social activity, and then POOF. Gone? Of course this is going to make people go to extremes.

Recent developments have scientists thinking it may be actually a factor. Thank you to something called androgens. Everything I’ve read to this point talks about Ace 2 receptors as the path C19 use to enter the cells. Now there are signs androgens may help the virus do that. It’s bad enough us bald / balding guys lose out on the ladies, etc., now we may actually die, too.

If this is true I'm screwed. However reading up on it a bit, there hasn't been enough study on age groups related to hair loss considering older populations all seems to have some degree of hair loss. it may not mean anything significant if those studied are also in the older age groups.

That's exactly the plan.

There's never been any basis for the regulations...all haphazard BS. I just heard about one guy who was 53 who died in a week from COVID who lived with 3 kids and wife. I cannot verify if the guy had an underlying condition (the person said he did not) because often times the messenger is just repeating what the family said. However, I find odd that nobody else in his immediate family, his friends, or extended family tested positive. It's kinda like the cruise ships where they predicted mass death yet it didn't materialize. There's enough data out there to suggest distancing doesn't correlate to contracting COVID.

I have an acquaintance in his 60's who came down with the virus. He's fine now, and his spouse never got ill from it.

It depends on what you are protesting. If you are protesting the lockdown, than that's a big no no.

Fraud is kind of a strong term. Let’s say you could reasonably call something A or B but if you call it A you get a bucket of cash versus nothing if you call it B. Do you think that bucket of cash will influence people and organizations to call it A more than they might have otherwise? I’ve been in enough of those kinds of meetings to know any org would pull out all the stops to maximize A in any way possible this side of legal.
If it is reasonable then there is no basis to dispute the numbers.

Well then how do you think you get infected?

Down lots of good quality saw palmetto - helps you pee and helps the hair.

Good point.

But lots of cynicism and sarcasm in many posts lately. Let me join in.

Yes, not so much on cable news because riots across US, and protests even in small cities, is taking place. Blood, gore, death, tear gas, violence, looting, who dun it ... police versus protesters takes precedence.

I read print media - corona hasn't disappeared there. Cases are up. Some concern in places re hospital capacity.

One would expect a mass spike in a few weeks - let's see.

The media just goes with a) whatever supports the narrative, then b) whatever is scariest. They don't get paid to report the truth, they gat paid to generate ad revenue just like any bad reality show or web site.

People think covid is a hoax? That's kinda weird. Anyway, this is just an example of how we insist on making everything political. You see examples here daily where overwhelming science and data is completely dismissed outright if it doesn't support someone's worldview and no side has a monopoly on it. What's also interesting is how clear it has become that the media's primary role today is not to inform but to shape public opinion. I know that's always been the case to some degree but it's so obvious and intentional now that no rational person could deny it at this point. The amount of mainstream "news" that squarely falls into the category of political propaganda has never been higher and we'll either demand media reform or we'll be destroyed by it. Speaking of conspiracy theories, I used to be one of those who said "nice tin foil hat bro" when people talked about how most of the media was just an arm of a political party but 2020 showed me how wrong I was . I'm now a believer.

The Mainstream Media doesn’t report facts anymore, they have picked a side...

Based on the data a vast majority of people were infected and didn't know it. I'm just glad I didn't have any family members near NY considering the policy to send COVID patients into high-risk facilities. I wonder what the death rate would have been if that had not been the policy. They didn't seem to have much concern about deaths in NY. Add MI and NJ too.

Which means social distancing is highly questionable as a defense. The whole thing reeks of faux science and tons of propaganda. YouTube taking down videos, social media storms against certain treatments, etc. The day I heard tennis players can't sit on a bench between games, no water provided, and singles players needed to wear masks was the day I knew this was BS. But to this day I still see people wearing masks while walking alone.

Never forget- This ⬆️ man cost the US Economy $5 trillion dollars, more than all of WW2, in 2 months.

When Vegas opened back up on Thursday, people flocked to the casinos as if there never was a pandemic, no social distancing and very few masks. Only time will tell if COVID is around.

I didn't know he governed 50 states, must be a pretty busy job:greenalien:

there are fauxers and hoaxers in this very thread! not everything has to be some global conspiracy

If you don't mind, I'll have to call you on that overstatement... in part.

Blanket statements like that are usually emotional, and hit the gut, but are an overstatement. I have friends from all spectrums, and understand the current frustration. I respect their views even if I think some of it is far fetched. They think I'm naive. I think they patch stuff together to make sense of the world -- I think the world doesn't make sense most of the time. But people act based on self interest most of the time.

I find a lot of MSM is factual as to the knowledge of the facts at that moment. BUT they introduce bias with their use of words. I've noticed it when friends and people here start criticizing MSM. I respect your and their opinions and think about it. Not saying that I get it right all the tiime but I listen.

I take out the visceral words that MSM, right or left, use -- I've noticed it a lot over the last 4 years. Injecting emotional words into the news is not fact - it's a description that may or may not be true and introduces bias - words that evoke a visceral response- but MSM should avoid such words and allow the viewer/reader to make up ther mind, instead of introducing bias of emotive words and phrases.

I urge people to experiment - take out the emotive words and check the bias. It's interesting.

CSPAN?
When I say media bias, it is more than trigger words , it is what they fail to report. Or, doom and gloom.
