I know I can't be the only one that researches a new course. I will look thru the website for any course data and then generally pull up Google earth for some distances and try to figure out the trouble spots. I try to build my bag around that data and adjust to what I think will be needed for that course.

Who else does this? Do you do anything different?

I use The Grint app to check out the GPS view of a course

Same. Grint is good for me. I've been using it for 5 years now. I do not typically rebuild my bag on a per course basis, but I like to look through a new course to determine the type of shots I'm going to need to hit with the clubs in my bag.

One of the main reasons I go that way over Google Maps is because Grint has the tee boxes built in, so I can even pick the boxes I’m going to play and get really accurate views

Yep, Green maps are super helpful too.

There isn't much I could change about my bag makeup. That comes down to what I'm feeling most confident with.

I do at least look up scorecards, look at pictures, or watch flyovers when I can.

Downloaded. This is much easier than earth. Ha

I've tried to do it before and never found it useful once I was out there.

I agree largely with this. Whenever i play in an event i always look at the flyover just to see, but once you are out there i'm not sure it really helps other than just having a general idea of what holes are coming up.

I remember last year specifically i kinda meticulously went through a course here, tried to figure what i'd hit off the tee etc. I ended up feeling really good with driver that day, and just hit it basically every hole

That makes sense. Game day most of it goes out the window and course conditions call for what it calls for.

I’ll sometimes look to get an idea of the holes…but that’s about the extent.

Most I've done researching a new course is the My Strategy feature from Shot Scope. Its a useful tool

It's the Mike Tyson rule IMO......everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Some days you will just feel better about some clubs.

In my experience every time i've gone in with a plan, i haven't really kept to it.

The flyovers are nice tho, to have a general idea of what to expect

This is some of my favorite things to do... Even tho it rarely goes to plan.

I might look at the course in the grint just to see how it’s generally laid out or if there are any interesting or particularly troublesome holes, but never found it helpful to try and map out a strategy. Usually just get to the course and try to keep the ball in front of me / in play shot to shot.

I'll use MyStrategy as well. Will work my way through the holes, and pick an initial tee shot with club selection. I haven't played a new course since the ability to plan additional shots for the hole.

I'm looking for tight fairways / pinch points, hazards I might need to lay-up to or cover, and to get a sense of whether this is going to be predominately a driver course, or whether I might favor the mini for a lot of holes, and if/where I might want my 18 degree UT for the tee.

I'm also looking to see if there are, or how many long par 3s there are and particularly if they are 205-215 which might have me reaching for the 7w rather than the UT.

So yes - the Shotscope dashboard gives me the option to both review the course, and look at how I might work my way around it based on my pAVG and dispersions. Super useful.

I look up the scorecard to get an idea of which tees I'd like to play from (or which tees we're playing from, if it's pre-established). I'll look at flyovers if they have them, just for the enjoyment of seeing them. No way I can memorize the flyovers for 18 holes, and it always looks different from the ground anyways.

We were playing a new (to me) course earlier this year in a guys' trip tournament and it offered course notes along with the flyovers. I copied them into the Notes app on my phone and referred to them on the tee box of each hole. It gave me an idea of what was in front of me and where to try to avoid, but I'm not a good enough golfer to pre-plan my strategy because it never works out the way I intend it to.

I don't change clubs for different courses. What's in my bag is in my bag, I'm comfortable with them and I roll with them.

This is why I tend to look at a course as well. There are a few clubs in the bag that I may change depending on what I see.

I will do this. But I’ll use Shotscopes My strategy to do it. It gives me the course overview and my clubs from my bag and their distances and lets me select clubs to use for all shots in theory.

While I do research a course I've never played to sort of game plan for it - projected weather and course conditions affect my bag makeup more than the course itself does.

For example - if it's really windy, I'll pull the 7 wood out the bag and replace it with 4 iron...or if I'm playing someplace I know will have really thick rough, I'll combo my irons with PD irons at 5-7 iron.

I generally don’t do much more than look at a scorecard and anything else I might find on the website for the course.

I bring the same bag of clubs to every course
18 Birdies shows me the holes as I'm playing

When I was picked for BagBoy at Ballyhack for 25' I read and reread the 24' Thread. Also watched the Vids available on the Ballyhack site. I had my standard Club setup which had Hydrids but I also put in Trunk the 3-5 U85 UTs in case of stiff Winds. Looking at Ballyhack in person... just indescribable. Never needed UTs and Fairways were wider than Illistrations could possibly show.
You can try to be ready but it will fall short of planning. Bring everything and pick what you need when there...and plenty of Golf Balls. 😀

I will check but rarely will change out clubs.
