Cruises and cruise lines

A cruise sounds like a very tempting first vacation in about 6 years.. though I don't think I would do Disney cruise, but I guess that would depend on the kiddo being with us or not
From what I understand about Disney cruises, having never been in one, is that they are awesome, but so so Disney. Having cruised before, I just can’t imagine being on Disney overload for 7 days.

We've only done Disney, but cheap sounds good. Might depend on how the 3 yo does this time around.
I was just looking at my same cruise this year for 2024 and it would be about $6500 for my family of 4 in one room, balcony guaranteed. Prices have gone way up since I booked. I on prices are over 10k. Oof.

We cruise about 3 times a year. Usually do Carnival, Norwegian or Royal Caribbean. Enjoy them all, and don't notice a lot of difference.

It's a lot. There are places to get away from it, primarily in the adult only areas.

Just going up one deck from the pool is like a different universe.
In 3 prior cruises i think I've spent a total of 15 minutes on the main pool deck. It's a mad house. Haha

Is that the truth.

Sky Princess has this little beauty on the back of the ship, kind of hidden away. I will be here as much as possible.sky-princess-wake-pool.jpg

Only cruise I’ve ever been on was we went on a Mediterranean cruise with Royal Caribbean about 10 years ago, had a balcony outside, and it was awesome.

We just went interior for this next one. Reality is I always want the balcony, but rarely use the balcony.

I’m all for cheap room since it’s fairly small and I spend so little time there. Never been with kids though so I don’t know how much trust would change me.

Yea, we saved a ton. For the most part, I try to stay out of the room as much as possible. Even the big ones are really small.

My wife and I like to sit outside in the breeze and have a drink. I don’t know if that will be true if we end up with an interior balcony this cruise. But I get your point. I would have rather booked two interior than one balcony, in retrospect.

Adjoining room would be fantastic with kids :D

i first said tiny and then changed to fairly small but we all know they are just small. I only wonder with small kids if it would be worth it, but I don’t think so. I feel it’s worth the savings. Your experiences shouldn’t be taking place in your room.

Not a bad point we do that when we travel after the kids are sleeping.

What does that typically cost?
Part of the cruise fees.

Per their rules, you can bring a bottle or two of wine or champagne (it’s been a while, I forget exactly) or a six pack of your favorite beverage. For reference purposes.

Was on the Disney Magic in the adult-only lounge and watched Phil win his Masters. I’m not a big fan of Disney anymore, but back then, they did everything right. The adult-only beach on their private island was also really nice.

Flight to FLL should be in the air in 48 hours. 8 night cruise to the Eastern Caribbean on Sky Princess. Have official plans for a nice beach day planned, snorkeling in St John, and exploring Old San Juan by foot. Other than that, I'm looking forward to getting so bored I can't stand it, eating, and utilizing the onboard fitness center.

We went to San Juan in Sept of 2022 and really enjoyed it.
We did a Selfie tour where they give you Selfie sticks as they tell you about Old San Juan.
It's a place I'd go back in a minute.
There are street vendors selling handmade Cigars - if you know someone that might enjoy one if you don't yourself. they are quite the value.

Enjoy your Cruise.

2007 we sailed on the Carnival Glory. Eastern Caribbean cruise. Had a good time. It was our first cruise and thought, at the time, it was 4.5 star service.

2010 we sailed on the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas. Western Caribbean. Had a great time. Realized what 4.5 star service really was. Made Carnival look like amateurs in comparison.

2017 we sailed on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. Alaskan cruise. Great service, had a good time. Family drama kind of hampered some fun. Ship was threadbare and needed obvious refitting in high traffic areas.

Haven't cruised since. Not sure if I will again. If I do, it's going to be Royal Caribbean or something better.

Should I choose the prepaid gratuities option or tip as we go?

I prepay.
Nothing worse than getting off and seeing a large bill, puts a downer on the trip.
