DFW & Surrounding Area Chat Thread

My fitter does a lot of stuff out at Maridoe - home course for Willy Z. Not sure if Bryson calls it home too, but I guess he’s there a lot. Fitter says both guys are really down to earth and always come chat, invite him to lunch etc. Pretty cool to hear.

I need to find a good local coach

I have the monthly Prime membership to Bear Creek. Mostly for the cheap $29 twilight during the summer. Surprisingly empty late most days and could get 13-14 holes in with mostly singles and twosomes out.

It’s been in really good shape this year. Was on my no fly zone for years. They cleared out some trees, improved conditions, staff is great- it’s a fun track.

I live in flower mound and can get there in under 25 min. Perfect for knocking off around 4:30-4:45
I also live in the mound of the flower and have recently put Bear Creek back into the regular rotation. I can hop on at just about any time during the week and for the past 2 years, it’s been in great shape. It checks my ego, though. I start thinking I can play this game and then I’ll play Bear Creek. The smallest errors can carry a heavy price. It’s funny, I think Bridlewood has the same rating, but I usually shoot 6-8 strokes better at Bridlewood.

Definitely watching this later. Played there many times. Thanks!
It’s been years for me. Last time I played it, the smell from the dump was awful. Haven’t been back. Is that smell still an issue?

Honestly it’s been years for me too, but when I lived in Carrollton I played it a bunch. Never loved the back nine but the front nine was fun. I do remember that smell now that you mention it (when the wind was from the wrong direction).

You may want to think about seeingTim Brantley at The Golf Station. He owns a fitting studio in Grapevine and Hurst but also teaches. My game fell off a cliff after Briggs Ranch (think the Bluesmobile falling apart after the movie). You heard me talk about it on Discord.

He more than got me back on track! Awesome guy.

It's a trip. That first par 3 is a very hard hole from the blues (usually around 200). It was 240 from the tips. Bryson goes long and left (not good on that hole) and casually gets up and down like it's nothing. A different game man....

Definitely different tracks. Bridlewood has a few tough holes (#5, 6 13 and 18) - but some very scorable holes (1, 4, 9 - if you hit the slot, 10, 14, 15, 16). And it's sneaky wide on a lot of holes.

Bear Creek is wider than it used to be...but still a target golf course.

Both are fun tracks...

gonna try and play bear creek, is far too convenient to just play B'Hood...when you live on course...

cheers over the weekend, if you are out there, consider my raising a glass to you!!18E8895A-A933-4156-A2C9-CFF0617F6FA1_1_105_c.jpeg

It’s a crazy easy drive to BC. But I get it. I’m literally 4 minutes from B-wood.

We’re playing Bridlewood today at 11:56. I was a little concerned over that tee time, but it looks like it’s not going to be too hot today. Hope the clouds stick around! Playing Bear Creek West next Wednesday.

I’m trying to figure out what hole that is. Is it #3? If so, I’m in that little swale just past the pin on the left all the time… One of my buddies lives on 18, right across from the bridge, so he gets LOTS of balls in his backyard. I’m in BW, but not on the course. Love the 90 second commute to the clubhouse!

West is more scenic but I prefer East. West has too many blind shots for my taste. I think East is rated slightly harder, but both are about the same to me. Either one is a good choice though.

And yes, I was able to ID your house from the picture. Nice location! I knew the original owner of that home.

I believe the issue with Bridlewood’s Friday Senior Loyalty Club rates have been put to rest. Everyone in our group was charged the proper rate today. Many thanks to @Mtdream for helping to get it resolved!

Today’s round was a tale of 2 nines for me. +5 on the front and +10 on the back for an 87. Pretty steady round until 2 doubles on 17 and 18. Greens are just in beautiful shape. Probably just dumb luck, but I hit 2 stakes marking ground under repair with drives today. One was on #9, which is hard enough. I hit a great drive up the right had side that drew back into the fairway. Hit a stake on the fly and richocheted left. Thankfully, it didn’t go OB and remained in the fairway, but it cost me a good 20-30 yards - maybe more since it runs downhill from that point. Another guy had a drive go directly into a hole dug on the 16th fairway. I guess they’re repairing or putting in drainage. Kinda weird that we had 3 drives that were affected with that kind of stuff.

We had a tee time just before noon. I was hoping that the clouds would hang around all day, but of course the sun came out in full strength right was we teed off. Still was better than it has been.

West is considered the 'nicer' of the two, but like the person above, I like the East course. It's usually easier to get on the East side.

My parents moved to the DFW area in the mid-1970s. Between then and when I moved here in 1991, I would always take my two-week vacation around the 4th of July and my Dad and I would play golf at various courses in the area. Bear Creek was always part of that rotation. It has been too long for me to remember much about the two courses other than I always enjoyed playing there no matter which course it was. How many remember that Bear Creek was originally going to be 72 holes, and they had a drawing/picture on the wall that showed the additional, planned 36 holes?

They cleared a lot of trees out of it a few years ago and it’s much more playable than it was. It used to be on my ‘no fly list’

had a great round, really enjoyed the course, the greens (for the most part) are in great shape, there are some edge burns and things like that...Fairways were in good shape, bunkers were kind of hit or miss, but in general good...

We played West course, and loved the layout, loved the routing, excited to play it again, course is definitely risk reward, and in some cases better to be ignorant...like Hole 1 big sloping to the right, ended up down at bottom, and next to a tree just across cart path...Hole 2 gets SUPER narrow when you hit over hill and up that back side :p

but again, better to be accurate and ignorant :p

thanks for recommendation, really enjoyed the course...

Anyone going to the LIV golf team-championship event?
Will be at Maridoe Golf Club - Carrolton, TX

I'll be going Saturday 09/21

2 more weekends at Mira Vista before the renovation closure then it's back to bouncing around for a year. It's going to be cool when it's finished but I hate it's going to take a year.

I will be in Fort Worth for the Navy mid November if weather is good and anyone wants to get together.

I think I fly in on the 12th and I usually pick as early of a flight as I can in order to have the rest of the day to get a round in when I land, but clubs always come with. I have gun shoots for the Navy and training over the 13-16th and fly back on the 17th, but there is that range facility too not far from base that stays open late.
